2011 gear

could the fujas tails feel soft because of the new bigger rocker? i cant imagine skis with lots of rocker felling very stiff in the tails at all especially on hardpack.

the JJ's are like a plank of wood underfoot stiffness with medium flex tips and tails. u cant just handflex them and be like ohhh theyre soft. if u flex the part that has camber and sidecut they are super stiff

the salomon 2012 skis rode surprising well on ontario hardpack/ice. I ripped it at pretty high speeds and it was pretty stable for a rockered ski. My only concern is that after a few days of park riding, and rounded edges, that it will handle like shit on hardpack/ice......i suppose only time will tell though because i could only ride em for about an hour.

click on the pic to enlarge it. fullscreen, scroll over to the ski tip.

i don't blame you for not doing that though. i wouldn't have thought of clicking on the pic either.

don't mean to hate, just pointing something out.

on the contrary. their graphics are what artists thought of to do with the theme of the 7 deadly sins. its an artists idea on the sin. maybe if you were an artist they're pick you.

i agree completely rossi has some mad legit graphics. I really liked all of last years, they were really clean but i think this year the artists are doing some bolder and more unique graphics...good to see

i know for the past 3 years the construction of the s4 has barely changed, does anyone know if next year's model will have any construction changes?

Hmm S6 looks like the same as this year, although it's hard to tell if any rocker from that pic.

I think they've had good graphics. The 2010/11 S7 with the orange R looks sick in person.

today i got to demo the following, just reply in this thread if you have any questions on any of them, but i will be doing a review of them soon.

195 s7 with metal

186 s6

186 Gotama

179 Hellbent (didnt have the 189 : (

186 Ep pro

183 Chetler

185 JJ

The S6 has similar rocker to the chopstick this year. It has no flat spot but is a very subtle rocker profile. Honestly I was blow away by that ski. It can absolutely rail on groomers and hard snow and feels like a traditionally cambered ski when you really crank them and lay them over. Didn't really get to ski any fresh snow on them but they handled bumps just fine without washing out too much and seemed to be pretty good in some chopped up crud. Overall I think they ski like a skinnier, turnier, softer chopstick.... which in my opinion was awesome. Super fun ski and real stable.

Let me know if you have any other questions about any of those skis. Also, for reference I have skied the Prophet 130, Chopsticks, Live Lifes, and Lizzies, so I can kind of compare any ski to these guys as well.

honestly i love my chopsticks much more than the bent. the bent seemed like it would be fun, but i just like a stiffer ski that can charge. also, nothing that i have ever been on skis switch like the chopstick. they are super fun and will never hook an edge or get squirrelly switch. they give you the balls to ski choppped up terrain faster than you would on a normal ski. the only downside to this ski is that it doesn't carve very hard on groomed terrain just because of the large turn radius, but that also makes it much better for going fast and this ski is almost impossible to hook an edge on.

the bent seemed fun, but it just lacks a bit of the charging capability of the chopstick. also since they are a pretty heavy ski when that tip gets bouncing you can really feel it and it will sometimes lead to you hooking an edge if it really gets going. it seemed to carve fairly well but nowhere near as well as the ep. overall, would probably be fun, but i just prefer the chopstick.

the ep is actually the same stiffness as this years.... or so said the line rep. i heard they were going to stiffen them up by 15% again, but it sounds like not, if they were it wasn't very noticable. that being said, they are much more fun on groomers than the bent. these skis can absolutely rail slalom turns and are by far the most fun fat ski i have ever been on in groomed snow. when you get charging they get pretty sketch if it is chopped up a bit, so if you like to ski really fast and do lines go with the chopstick for sure.

anyway, hit me up if you have more questions, i have been on practically every rockered ski so i can definitely compare them for ya.

I would get the chopsticks personally, i demoed 2011 the other day and my friend bought this year when we were in colorado over presidents day weekend. They were perfact in pow (we got like 20 inches that weekend) and they achually skied the hole mountain well, also the rocker was amazing. And i know this prob dosent matter to you but the graphic on next year hellbents is hella creppy. There both great skis but i would deff demo both of them, both for your doing on the mountain and what you like and what you think rides better. Deff try them out before you drop over 1000 buck on them.

The Chopstick doesn't do well on groomers like the HB and EP because it has a continuos rocker. I.E. no flat spot underfoot.

yeah, schmies is definitely right. i mean the chopstick will do decent on groomed stuff, but it certainly is not quite as stable as the HB or EP like he said. it pretty much needs to be soft snow for them to be decent on groomed stuff since the rocker makes them like iceskates when it gets hard. so yeah overall for groomed terrain the HB and EP will carve much harder and skid a lot less, but they do get bounced a little bit more in rough terrain from the flex.

the other thing is i prefer my skis to be really stiff so i am somewhat biased. i tend to just try to ski fast through everything and am not really into doing butters and presses and stuff like that. for that reason i like the chopstick while a lot of people would prefer the HB and EP. i think too that it is tough to compare the hellbent to those two skis since i skied it for 2 runs and not really on the terrain it was meant to be skied whereas i have had the chopsticks for 2 years and been in every condition possible, and had the ep for a season and have skied lots of different terrain as well. i think it would be an absolute blast in deep snow and be quite a bit more stable than the EP due to its stiffer flex.

the flat spot on the EPs is smaller than a snowblade haha. The only reason they rip on groomers is because of their dope side cut

yeah, both the ep and bent have pretty similar lengths of the flat spot and can both carve surpisingly well on groomed snow. the bent is better for going fast on groomers than the ep, but the ep can carve tighter from the sidecut like you said. only downside for the ep is that it gets extremely hooky when it gets a bit rougher, i would think that the bent would stay much more stable when it gets a little chopped up on the groomers since it has less sidecut and a stiffer flex

pushing it there schmies.

saying the Hellbent does well on groomers is like saying there was a skinny kid at fat camp. He may have been skinny relative to the other kids. But he was by no means in shape.
