2011-2012 English Premier League

They're doing better than they were. I remember watching them narrowly avoid being relegated out of the bottom league back in the late 90's when they pulled the goalkeeper up in the final seconds on a corner kick and he scored a header. They were top league back in the 60's or 70's and I guess are the smallest English team (population wise) that has been be in the top league since 1906.

This says otherwise lol.

But hey... my good buddy's from there and loves his smalltown club and I love that... (plus, he supports Newcastle for the EPL, since theyre from the north as well. We get along well when it comes to football haha)

i find it important to have a smaller, unrelated second club that you can go to.

mine is Valenciennes FC in France. Yes...the club that pretty much ceased to exist back in the 90s due to the whole marseille match fixing deal.

It's just relaxing to watch a team that has nothing more than a slim, outside chance of winning anything, and who's transfers still tend to be below 7 figures.

I can sit there and tear my hair out for 90 minutes over an arsenal match, but for some reason with VAFC, i can easily sit there and watch them lose 3-0 and say "eh, good try. We'll get them next time. Let's just avoid the drop."

I have several of these that I like to follow... although not all of them are what I'd call "small"

St. Etienne - French Ligue 1... even though it's larger, and very popular in France, I love the support they have for the club, and I didn't even become a fan of the club until they were actually in the 2nd division... so now seeing them get success at the top level again is cool to see.

Celtic FC - Yeah, they aren't small at all whatsoever (if they were in the EPL they'd be one of the most massive clubs due to their ridiculous support - and along with Rangers would probably make the whole of the League far more interesting - not that I'm a fan of the idea...) Mostly because my nanny growing up was a staunch Celtic supporter from Glasgow and she's the one who got me into the sport in the first place from a young age... I had to deal with that whole 1990's terribleness of the club too for a while... thank god for Henrik Larsson... They also made the Champions League quite frequently whereas Newcastle does not so much especially these days - and were the opposing team to Newcastle in Alan Shearer's testimonial, and that was AWESOME.

And as for my REALLY small club that I follow, it's gotta be NAC Breda from the Eredivisie in Holland... They're definitely entertaining to follow.. however they're one of those clubs who are ever indebted and therefore dont do much in the league... But seeing them succeed brings a bit of a smile to my face....

yea i'm a pretty big celtic fan as well. Don't follow them as rigorously as arsenal, but my day does get better whenever i see them win.

I really couldn't see either them or rangers doing that well in the premier league beyond support. Top 10 for sure, but considering that apart from each other they really don't face tough opposition, i could see teams like stoke, sunderland, newcastle, villa etc giving them a lot more trouble than most would think.

I see it this way... If they got the extra revenue and exposure that your average EPL team gets.. I feel that even though they currently probably would both be mid-table clubs at best, there's no way they wouldn't be competing with the likes of Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool for top spots within about 5 years... once that money starts coming in, they'd be big spenders in NO time... Back in the days before the modern EPL, either Old Firm club usually flattened any and all English opponent in Europe...

Celtic was the first British club to take back the European Championship and they did it with homegrown talent... Man U had to assemble a diverse lineup in order to succeed at that the next year... (yeah Georgie Best!)

see i watch stoke and do this, with a side of pulling my hair out. sadly the other club i support is inter milan, due mainly to wesley sneijder, milito, and the fact that my family is from the area

They were in division one for one year and finished in last place. That chart is probably representative of what place they finished each season in, and that dot at the bottom of the division one line meant they were last in division one, not first in division two.

Haha. My point's that they've only spent a year in the top flight...

Although I'd love for that to change and get a small town club some good recognition...

"Norrich" isn't exactly what I'd call a 'small town' lol... least compared to a place like Carlisle.. lol.

It kinda is cool to see them up there though... Norwich fans are pretty awesome...

Its small in a football sense

Only having one team

A smaller stadium compared to other teams in the league

And also alot less money and big name signings or international players

p2p4u.net

Every single match, including preview and highlight shows... shows a bunch of other sports too (it's how I tune into out of market hockey)

Toon's taking on Scumderland today CMON THA TOOOON! FOCK DA MACKEMS!

is Liverpool really about to be awarded the 3 points due to that... haha.

from everything i've seen... what an uninspired match for both sides...

So to are Chelsea they look fuckin awful right now.

Tired of Kalou, Malouda, Anelka they need to go man get some new boys in the team.

Arsenal getting booed off after the second match of the season. Could be Arsene's last season if he can't pull it together.

Well thank God aha but it's time for somebody to notice that our old guys aren't gonna win us anything. 2-1 over WBA at home? Not a good result in my opinion.

I want to see McEachran and Lukaku in action.

Oh and hopefully Alex is sold to Juve because Ivanovic is one of the most solid defenders in the league and should at least start either RB or CB.

Man Utd vs Tottenham today...

A draw would be ideal, but if it comes to it, I prefer a man utd win simply because I hate tottenham more. And if the scum win, they'd be singing about how they are certain to win the league this year. (though come to think of it, they do that every year. Going to be 51 years come may though...)

well shit. as if things couldn't get even worse, Arsenal have sold nasri to city.

Shame, he was one of my favorite players. I wish him all the worst, save for when he's playing for France.

Every season Every town fan says "oh this season we'll go up and get back in the uefa cup!!"

I seem to be the only one who realises that if we did go up, we'd get totally battered. We're shit, and I wish the best of luck to Norwich this season, but they're defo coming down

Joey Barton looks to be out of Newcastle. He tweeted that he's taking medical with, who everyone seems to be saying is QPR?

Slightly disappointing because, he's a great player and all, despite what people say... and we've lost too many quality players already so far this summer...

but you know what? I guess one less circus act isn't exactly a bad thing... and at least we DO have depth at midfield to make up for the loss...

In my opinion there's not enough depth to make up for the loss of Joey Barton.
To QPR though? Surely he can do much better than that and he'll probably be looking at Championship rather than Champions League next season.

Joey's a good player and I quite enjoy seeing him at Newcastle he truly is loyal Newcastle are just retarded. Oh well though congrats to QPR for improving their crappy squad.

Theyre offering him 80k per week on a free transfer.

I feel its pretty stupid of Newcastle to just let him go like this and all... but mike ashley's being a straight up penny pincher these days.

I fucking hate that we just lost basically half our first team squad from the beginning of last season. fucking wrecks me.

As for depth... we have a lot of midfielders who can still play well... and guys like cabaye haven't even made their true mark on the club yet, so I'll hold out judgement.

We're surely doomed to the bottom half now though. Relegation? not with as many teams that are surely worse, but still no better than last season...

It's not even like the stuff Barton said on Twitter was questionable it was all truth and if Newcastle didn't get a couple hints from Barton then shame on them. But it's time for Newcastle to start upgrading and looking for quality players during the transfer periods. A manager I admire is Steve Bruce, the man renovates his whole team nearly every year, some on loan some permanent transfer, and manages to easily avoid relegation. Not to mention he is a classy fellow.

Seeing as we've had about 9000 managers in the last 3 years I'll be happy if we just stick with Pardew for a long while... we've done well with him at the helm anyways... (although i'm still FUCKING BAFFLED we sacked Chris Hughton for no reason MID SEASON... what the hell was that about?)

Anyways, yeah... right now I dont know what the fuck to think about this club...

Theyre currently arguing over 4m and 6m quid for Erik Pieters... Just fucking pony up and snag him, you idiots...

AND GET A DECENT STRIKER WHILE YOU'RE AT IT GOD DAMNIT!

Yeah stuff like that is weird, like Chelsea bidding for a lot of players. "Santos rejects a bid of 35m for Neymar, they want 40m." Well god damnit Abramovich if you really want him that bad 5m isn't a big deal to you seeing how you shat 50 for Torres, and have a net worth of like 15 billion.

And agreed, Ameobi and Best are mediocre, they need a prolific goalscorer.

I hope we don't lose Alex. He's a monster and will come in handy once injuries and fatigue begin to kick in, I do rate Ivanovic higher though and Luiz is just as good. I'm stoke we've landed Mata. I also want to see McEachran play more, I see no need for Modric or anyone similar (other than depth), if Cleverley and Wilshere get time then so should this kid.

Shame what's happened to Arsenal but you can't say it hasn't been a long time coming. City will be a team to watch for me, they've got a great squad but are few more egos away from becoming Galacticos V2, and they have a clueless manager.
