2011-2012 English Premier League

What are you, a liverpool fan? Much as I hate to say it, history doesn't mean shit when talking about modern matches. That's like asking nottingham forest what steps you have to take to win consecutive european cups. It's nice, it's important...but it's irrelevant.

You can win the league 15 straight years (exaggeration) and still have trouble against City or Liverpool. What I'm saying is yes, they are a good team, but they did not play exceedingly well. Arsenal simply played that badly.

And trust me, I know all about it. Being from there doesn't make you superior in any way. I've attended plenty of matches, and been following the Arsenal for almost my entire life.

Goal-line technology and replays definitely need to be used. Why use 2 more officials to stand on the damn goal line just get something more accurate it's so stupid its not even funny. Video replays would definately detour divers if you will face suspensions and fines after. Barca would be knocked down a whole lot half their team would be missing after a Madrid match.

And at least Ireland would have been more entertaining. France was just straight up pathetic.

And I believe he's probably a bandwagon United fan. I say this argument over and over, History counts for shit all.

United barely scraped by West Brom, so I don't know what makes him think since they beat the weakest Arsenal team in decades they would crush Chelsea, Liverpool, or City as well.

That video with South Korea is shocking.

Concerning the Arsenal-United game, yes the Gooners were fucking abysmal, but United also had moments of brilliance like Rooney's two free kicks and both of Young's goals. It is impossible to compare performances from two different teams in two different games, but to say that they would have had trouble against Citeh or the Scouse is absurd. Maybe they lose 2-0, or maybe they win 3-0. It is like comparing how Spain's past world cup squad would have fared if they put in the same performance in the finals against say the German performance against England earlier in the tourny.

Young's goals were amazing, but free kicks are free kicks, many professionals could have put those in and that was poor goaltending and wall set-up in my opinion.

However, I think the point he was trying to make was don't get the wrong idea that Manchester United can crush every team that easily with a performance like that. An opposition with more strength would have been far more of a challenge and they would have definately not breezed by any other quality team like that.

yea to be honest, even as a frenchman...after the first match vs uruguay, I was saying we might as well have just given it to ireland. Hell, even after the draw in the 1st match i would've willingly swapped out france with ireland to see if they could pick it up.

And while the reffing in that match was awful, you do have to remember that ireland were in no way any more favored or robbed of a world cup spot. It was tied, and France was actually picking up their play. Now had keane finished any of his 50 chances, or had lloris had an off day, things would have been different.

I for one am just happy that France has since picked up their game, and did so by beating a few of the biggest international teams.

and by the way, how fucked are the fifa rankings? How can a team that loses in the world cup be ranked below 32? By all logic, the world cup is the 32 best teams in the world at that time. Yet by fifa rankings...it's better to not qualify at all than it is to qualify and do poorly. Makes no sense.

North Korea was in the world cup... I'd rank Ireland over North Korea.. lol.

hell... I'd rank a LOT of countries over North Korea...

But definitely not Brazil. North Korea is way better than Brazil...

The FIFA rankings are decently accurate but are in no way a method used to say if Team A played Team B, whoever is ranked higher is better and would win. There are many factors which play into the rankings which do cause some weird placements. Like when Mexico won the Gold cup they're were ranked 8th or something, but it wasnt an accurate reflection at the time because no other countries were playing.

I do see currently some odd rankings though: England in 4th (as an England supporter I will admit I don't know how this happened we haven't played in 2 months and haven't had the most impressive results in the Euro qualifiers), Uruguay in 5th (they dove through a shitty Copa big whoop), Norway in 12th, Montenegro in 19th, etc.

Scary times for Arsenal - and honestly if Wenger can't work it out before the transfer deadline it will get not only worse in regards to the season but future transfer windows.

Nasri had clearly been identified as Cesc's successor but with him leaving its thrown all plans out the window. Shame too because I think Arsenal could have become a much more direct, menacing team with Nasri as AM and Gervinho/Walcott/Arhsavin as wide forwards.

Can't blame Nasri for moving on though as he'll have 3x the wager, 3x the chance to win a trophy and 3x the success at City this year.

As for Wenger - he needs to go, he's failed in player management, transfer windows and has been tactically naive for years. That he could even consider going into this season with just Gibbs is asinine, and our CM and CB depth is almost as weak. Djourou is not a legitimate 3rd CB, fuck Koscielny isn't even a legit start....and a starting midfield of Ramsey, Wilshere and Song is budget....even more so when the inevitable happens and Wilshere/Ramsey are overplayed resulting in injury and Rosicky/Frimpong starting.

Bah! Figure it out Wenger or just get out.

Oh, and FFFFFFFFFFF Barcelona the dirty diving c*nts.

Everyone thinks what Arsenal does in the transfer market is all up to Wenger, but there are much more people behind it than just him. Regardless he does have a large say in things, and has done shit all but sell 3 top players.

Wilshere and Ramsey are quality players and will do, but I agree at least a suitable sub or someone better than either one of them is needed. Arsenal desperately need a CB, still don't know why they haven't jumped on Scott Dann or Gary Cahill, both of them are affordable considering what they made for Fabregas, Clichy, and Nasri.

Davide Santon for 5.3m? Really?

People were calling him the "next paolo maldini" just the other day it seems... Good riddance El Toro.. Wayyy more upside with this signing...

On top of that, looks like we got another backup goalkeeper, and have a deal in place for Modibo Maiga.. which would be fantastic.

I like the youthful feel of this team so far...

And close on Macheda apparently. Play Nile Ranger!! Santon is a good signing though he'll probably turn out better than Enrique would anyways.

Meanwhile City are interested in yet ANOTHER central midfielder, Owen Hargreaves apparently. So stupid he'll just ride the bench and join the list of: Barry, De Jong, Nasri, Yaya Toure, Silva, and Milner.

Nile Ranger? The guy who was arrested a few days ago for leaving someone unconscious in the city centre?

Meh.. I'd rather rid this team of loonies...

He's being shopped around... several teams are interested in him. I have a lot more faith in other guys than him anyways.

busy day for Arsenal...

Santos and Mertesacker already confirmed, with a few others listed as possibilities. Can't remember the last time I was this pleased with 2 signings.

It's also restored my faith in Arsene to some extent. Still have to see what results we can get, but I'm glad the man utd beating was finally the wake up call that our defense was absolute shit.

Damnit leeds... why didn't you sell Grabel to Sochaux instead of Les Verts so we could have had Maiga....

Oh well. Hopefully we pull some surprise shit out of our ass, and land both Pieters and a decent striker...

Didn't they sign that Korean kid also? I was getting really scared that they would keep all of the money they made by trading Nasri and Fabregas.

Very poor showing by Chelsea today. Shipping a 30 year old player on loan is completely pointless, it's especially crazy when he's one your most creative players and he goes to a close rival. Keeping all three of Anelka, Kalou and Malouda, no Kevin De Bruyne (this deal should have been done weeks ago) - WTF! And I also don't really rate Meireles (Modric either) but hopefully he proves me wrong.

Chelsea seems notoriously bad at pulling off fair price, timely transfers. Look at the four best squads in the world - the two Spanish clubs and the two from Manchester - they got their shit done early, getting some of the best players and having proper time to gel.

Oh well, this window for me was as much about getting rid of some players as it was about bringing in new ones. We didn't do so great at either, I hope AVB has a solid head on his shoulders because the pressure will be immense.

I'm so pissed it's ridiculous I don't know how we can be so stupid. To be honest, I want Benayoun gone permanently not for a year, especially since he's 30. He's not very good and we need to utilize McEachran rather than a 30 year old who is not going to develop any further. De Bruyne was one of the guys I wanted the most he looks so solid like he could fit right in the squad, but another year to grow couldn't be too bad. Lastly, why on Earth do Chelsea insist on taking all the Liverpool rejects? Meireles isn't bad but there's a reason why he's not in Liverpools XI and it's the same reason he shouldn't be in ours, especially on a four-year deal.

I was really hoping at the very least Anelka would leave, but nobody who I wanted gone has gone. And if AVB insists on keeping McEachran here at Stamford Bridge, we better use him or he'll turn out to be another David Bentley story. If a home game against Norwich isn't the right time to use him, when is? I thought a year at Wigan would have done him great.

pretty happy with the Arsenal at the end of the day here. We've been crying out for a few experienced signings, and they finally provided. Would have been better had it not taken an embarrassing beat down to make that point clear, but better late than never i suppose.

Thrilled about mertesacker and santos, but don't know too much about benayoun or the korean. Anyone care to fill me in on benayoun?

He's honestly a good player, it's just he really hasn't done much for Chelsea, nor do we need him. He's pretty skilled and I guess some call him a creative player but don't expect a physical presence. Lastly, he's one of the ugliest guys to ever play the sport.

Don't forget Arteta, he could be a decent signing too.

If England beat Bulgaria today by a margin of at least 3, score in both halves, and are the first and last team to score (9 Pick Parlay), I will have made myself $2500.

Benayoun is a talented player with little end product, essentially a Rosicky clone and I doubt either will have over 5 goals or 7 assists (all comps) this year.

Definition of a meh signing.

Chu Young Park scored a hat trick last night vs. Lebanon!

A biased Englishmen who likes to think England can win every game :)

But I'd say a $25 risk at 100 to 1 odds is a chance I'm willing to take, it's Bulgaria for God's sake.

english folk who listen to their own journalists.

can't wait til january when england are labeled the undoubted favorites, and there is a 100% chance they win every euro and world cup from here on out. For a country that has won 1 trophy, they sure do have confidence.

Gotta take the french approach-assume the team is shit and watch rugby until they prove otherwise. Though as of late, in their big matches they have been proving they aren't bad.

Albania today! get the win and we're just about in.

God damnit, we'll at least I put a single bet on for 50 and got back $24 out of the 25 I lost.

So close to $2500 it's like playing Bingo and all you need is one more number.

it's back!

man city already beating wigan unfortunately.

And I'm stuck trying to find a damn stream for the arsenal-swansea match. absolutely none of my usual sources are working.

Pathetic show from Liverpool. Chelsea again disappointed me, played a decent game but FFS get a damn clean sheet for once. City winning again obviously but play a decent team then we'll start seeing.

You obviously know as much as the guy that made thread.

North America WTF , i am from Salford you panhead and have been sitting on the Stretford End for the last 35 years.

you're embarrassing yourself.

35 years and apparently you don't understand how people talk about football? It is possible to play like shit and still win. That's all we're saying. Everyone but you gets this.

Granted man utd did not disappoint this weekend either. They look to be coming together perfectly. Should be an interesting match vs chelsea next weekend, though i believe man utd in their current form are unstoppable, whereas chelsea has been a bit shaky.

A 3-2 win over city is hardly breezing by them, let alone a 3 goal comeback. If you think results 15 years ago make United better team today, then you're more stupid then I thought you were. 35 years of football you'd think you'd comprehend that a win against a horrible Arsenal team doesn't guarantee a walk in the park against Chelsea, Liverpool, or City.

If I know as much about football as fujarome I'd consider myself pretty knowledgeable, which is more than I can say for you.

I'm so unimpressed with Shola Ameobi... He's not his former self whatsoever.

God damn we need a fackin legitimate striker...

0-0 draw @ QPR. I have a feeling we will have a few of these types of results this season... meh.

Subs came on too late to make some legitimate pressure... Hatem Ben Arfa's creativity is absolutely missed right now.

Still unbeaten. Keeping positives.

Such a boring game, no real classy players between both teams, nothing stood out, I actually fell asleep after 60 minutes.

It was a Krul result but at least they tried they're Best. ;)
