07/08 Ski Picture Thread

They're DEMO skis and I have them in possesion for the whole weekend to try them out.

If I mounted them, they would definitely be closer to center.

The Max I can go forward on the El Rey's is like +1 from recommended using the Sal Z12Ti DEMO bindings adjustment.

The ARV's are set to recommended and can't change that. Hope the Marker M14.0 Free binding that's on them doesn't kill me.

Tomorrow I'm taking both with me and am probably not gonna need to drag my AR6's along, cause hopefully these two will be planty of a fun ride.

Coda, Contika, El Ray aka Fleet

what kind of skier is the El Ray trying to appeal to and what skis is it supposed to compete with? like is it supposed to be a cheap park ski (fuji, invader)??? all mountain?? whAT?

Yeah, it's a price-point park/all mtn ski. Cheaper than the AR6 to compete with the silencer, invader, sprayer fs...that kind of ski.

how they skied compared to the ar6?

i personally liked the el ray better after a bout 5 days on them. i wrote a review on them after about a day on each and at that time i had liked the ar6 but as i rode both more i grew to like the el rey.

i like the extra width and its sidecut is very nice. it is a very stable ski at high speeds and kills it all over the mountain. they were about the same flex as the ar6 (seemed like it to me) but the ar6s seemed more choppy/noodly at high speeds.

hope that helps.

any more questions ask me.

Pethetic ass question, but the El Ray isn't supposed to be a girl ski is it? Are the coda and the other one supposed to be girl skis? Or am i talking outta my ass right now?

Is the El Ray a completely new ski theyre putting out, and cheaper/more than ar6? Don't believe someones question if it's suppose to be there with the fuji, etc got answered

Nevermind all that got answered, im a bad reader. I assume if they're around the $300 price range I'll grab a pair, prolly a tossup between El Ray & anthems

^what NPM said and they have a weird sidecut...it is like 125 in the tip, then goes to 133 right before the waist, then the waist is around 135, then it starts to taper and is around 132 right after the waist and then finally in the tail it is like 120. really weird but perfect for powder.

i dont know if that is what reverse sidecut is but it sounds like it to me

oh dude compared to this years they are going to be buttery as shit and have so much pop/flex..def better than this years i believe. check out the flex on redbullusa.com

But aren't they saying that the THALL is very buttery now? And now they're going to make it even MORE buttery? That have to be very soft skis.

Me & My Gfriend tried these out this weekend. Both are a very fun ride.

Very good for carving due to the deep sidecut.

Very light and snappy, probably cause of the cap construction, but not on the soft side. Like other people that already tried them, it is gonna be a very good ski for the money, that is gonna be useful all over the mountain. I just hope the price won't be too steep since it belongs to the price-point category.

I think they tweaked the core of the ski and made it lighter and lowered the already low swing weight of the ski:

"We've tweaked our most durable core by more strategically targeting the center and outer edge of the core with a strong wood laminate and complimenting it with strong and stable lighter wood. This decreases overall weight and lowers swing weight while increasing strength and liveliness." -Armada 07/08 Catalog.

i got this message from Tyson Hall:

"The AR6 for 0708 will undergo some minor changes to the core. We will be reducing the weight at the tip and tail, while increasing the profile slightly under the boot. This will provide a skier less swing weight when spinning and more control under foot when jibbing, or skiing all-mountain. The JJ will have a few more changes in that it will be produced at a new factory, which will greatly increase its durability. Additionally, we will be adding a new dampening material to the JJ to provide more liveliness when skiing all-mountain"

today at sugarloaf i was talking to a guy who had next years arv's. he said that they were 12% stiffer than last years. anyone else hear this?

I have no idea when the skis are gonna release to the public. The skis I had in possesion for the whole Weekend were:

178 El Rey

164 Cantika

and

175 ARV

I also got a reply from Tyson Hall while asking what has changed for the AR6 and the Thall models for 07/08:

"Wow, you are more anxious than we are and that’s sick! Although the 0708 AR6 is lighter, it is only by a fraction in each size. For each size in the email below you should subtract .1 lbs. The real difference in the 0708 AR6, compared to the 0607 model, is the swing weight. We re-engineered the core profile for next season in the AR6 and THall models to reduce swing weight (leaving the softer, lighter core stringers at the tip and tail), while keeping the more dense, heavy wood stringers under the boot. This ultimately creates a sturdier platform under boot for more control, while making it even more effortless to spin on the AR6. You will find that the flex pattern from 0607 to 0708 is relatively unchanged.

Thanks again Kris, we appreciate your stoke on Armada and we’ll continue to lead the charge in technology for skiers such as yourself.

Lower swing weight=easier to spin

A ski that has alot of weight at the tips and tails will feel harder to spin because it takes more effort to get the momentum going, whereas a ski with most of it's weight underfoot won't need as much effort to start a spin on.
