06/07 MSP

Anyone ridden them? Apparently they added a progressive sidecut...I want to know if this has changed the ski's carving ability on hard snow.

the only reason I ask is because I used to own a pair of 170 MSP's from 04/05 and I thought they were really planky and non-responsive, and were like skiing on fence posts (or straight skis). Theoretically, progressive sidecut should fix that problem. When I ask how they perform on hardpack, I mean how do they turn now, not just barrell straight down groomers.

ive had both. personally i liek the way they ski. but if your wondering if they changed a lot from 05 to 06. no not really. in they way they ride that is.

that's what the progressive sidecut means - doesn't really have anything to do with the flex or construction of the ski - it's the fact that each model has the exact same turn radius throughout the line, whether it be the 161 or the 187 - same turn radius of 25 meters.

the idea behind their progressive sidecut is that although sterbenz may ride the 187 MSP, if you buy the 171 MSP they are the exact same ski in terms of performance and shape.

Cant wait to ski mine!

I thought progressive sidecut meant the sidecut was tighter towards the tip (for turn initiation) but more bowed out towards the mid section of the ski (for stability). I'm not at all concerned with the flex of the ski, seeing that's what drew me to them in the first place.

progressive sidecut allows shorter/longer versions of the ski to have the same turn radius and feel throughout the line.

Its sick. It works. and these skis ROCK.

taken from 4frnt website:

"Revamped for 06, the MSP has been fine tuned in all aspects. This ski is now shaped with a progressive sidecut allowing the ski to dive into turns with ease and still maintain incredible stability at high speeds."

So are they different for this year or not?

??

This is what I have always heard a progressive sidecut meant. The ability to initiate a turn quickly, but less tail so that you are not locked into a turn when you do not want to be. The Seth Vicious was the first ski I know of where the term was used. If you look at the pistols dimensions, 128 95 118, versus the vicious, 130 98 118, you see the greater difference b/w the tip and tail. Generally the narrower tail in proportion to the tip and waist means you can slide the ski when you want to, you are less locked into a carve. Having skied the vicious and the pistol I much prefer the vicious. It turns when you want it to, but doesn't lock you in a carve the way the pistol does.

yeah the progressive side cut is that, it has 2 different turn radii, one in teh the tip that's smaller and one in teh tail that's larger, and the circles come together perfectly at teh waist. It's different from the previous skis. also i beleive the tail height was raised a bit

yeah, on my old MSP's I noticed that when you started to carve you got locked in a really huge arc, especially if your edges were sharp. That wasn't so good for me as I come from a slalom skiing background and generally like to do smaller turns...especially on narrow/crowded runs.

If they've raised the tail height that would be awesome too. I'll have to check them out.
