Opening Weekend at Sierra Summit, 11/25/07

Despite the November drought, temps finally dropped enough for Sierra Summit to pump out some snow on the beginner hill. They had 7 or so rails and boxes set up and a good time was had by all. Should be more open next week... http://youtube.com/watch?v=S--GftyZaQs

    270 onto a rail

Like most people said, it's easier to spin natural and slide unnatural. Hit the rail a few times unnatural before you try throwing the 270. That will help you with sliding that way. Also, try it on a box first...

How big of a deal is a backflip?

Switch backs actually aren't that much more difficult than a regular back. The rotation isn't hard to get and you can spot your landing through the entire trick. If you have a solid backflip and can ride switch, they're an easy step. Working against the "grain" of the jump isn't a problem...

Cork, rodeo, flat, misty? im so confused!

This thread will def help. People have changed the names of tricks a lot in the past 5 years or so too. Rodeos and Flatspins refer to different tricks for most people now then when people first started using those terms...

    Name this trick...

Used to be called a rodeo 5 back in the day of Szocs and Auclair. Some people might call it a flat 5, though those, when people first started doing them, were different. As for the Underflip, it is a little bit different rotation. It's almost like a 180 to Front flip, or a cross between a...

    Need a tip

Lot of advice (some good, some not as good) already. Depending on the snow conditions and the height of the cliff, you're going to have to lean back a little to keep from going over your tips. Keep your hands in front of you though, you head looking for your run out, not down at your feet...

If i spin over my right shoulder

Cork and Bio are very different types of spin so I will explain them seperately. Cork - Probably the easiest cork spin to learn is a corked 7. Before you try it you should have your 7's dialed and be able to tuck them up. (no pencils) Come into the jump with your feet about shoulder width...

    Schweitzer, Idaho

I grew up riding Schweitzer. They have great terrain. Lots of good tree skiing, some fun chutes and drops. The park gets pretty good, especially later in the year when they have a lot of snow. Last year they really stepped up their park, had a pretty good jump line and some fun rails. Plus...

    Spoting Landings

There are probably a couple things that could help. As was already mentioned, keep looking into your spin so the landing will come into your field of vision earlier. The other is just developing that spacial awareness. As you do more spins, you'll get better at knowing where you are. Your...

What is the lightest twin out there?

Moment Reno Jibs are the lightest skis I've ridden. My 181's have half the swing weight of 175 troublemakers, 179 invaders, 180 scratches. Those are the main skis I've ridden so I don't know about some of the others.

    Price point ski

Moment Renos are pretty cheap. ($399) Not quite as cheap as some of the others but they are a sick ski. $20 more gets you the jib, which is probably my favorite park ski ever... Buying skis that are a year or two old is usually your cheapest route though.

So I'll be using poles this year...

In So Cal last year we skied without snow. Looks like we may do it again this year.... P.S. I think I'll stick with my poles. How else will I push myself over all the dirt patches?

How big of a deal is a backflip?

For the record...Backs aren't easier than threes (many people can do a 3 just skiing down the hill. Haven't seen any backs that way yet...), but they aren't as difficult as many people think. For those of you looking to try them, try to get some practice on a trampoline or diving board before...
