i voted for the candide-cko pic. looks like it's gonna win.
if they had half-pipe skiing in the olympics i would actually watch it, as opposed to glancing at it every once in a while to laugh at how stupid aerials look.
I want more information on an organized movement to get skier pipe in 2010 where is it? where do we sign up? what can we do to help. Everyone seems to generally want it. Who do we need to kill, bribe, kidnap or sweet talk to get it done?
Good article except for the "skiers dominate over boarders" statements. Also the judging comments showed that the author just operated on assumptions rather than experience.
Sure Dumont goes bigger than all the boarders, but Andy Finch goes bigger than 95 percent of the skiers.
At World Superpipe this year Kelly Clark (Snowboard girl) was going bigger in the warmup than the majority of the skier guys.
At X-Games the heightometer kept track of the average amplitudes, and the top 3 after the event were Dumont (Ski), Matt Hayward (Ski), and Shawn White (Snowboard).
So no, it is not fair to say that skiers go "3 meters bigger than boarders" as if that is true across the board. One or two skiers go bigger than boarders, but lots of boarders can boost too.
At the WSI this year it was a Japanese snowboarder who was going the biggest, bigger than Dorey, Riddle, etc.
Anyways, I'm a huge supporter of ski halfpipe becoming Olympic, but I hate the "we are so much better than snowboarders" argument because it is not really the case. They can go big, they have been doing runs with 3 1080s for over 5 years now, and they were doing doubles in the pipe back in '99 (Michalchuk).
Also, if the writer had read Schmucks articles earlier this year he may have noticed that the FIS Judging at the World Cups this year was seen to be just fine by all the athletes, and they did not once reward a "ballet style 900". In fact the World Cup judging this year seemed a lot less controversial among the athletes and NS crowd, than many of the "by newschoolers for newschoolers" judged comps were.
I would be surprised if the author of the article actually went to or watched any of the World Cups that he slams the judging on....
