but what about tailgrabs, nosegrabs and stuff like that? Those grabs have been pulled the last decade and nobody's complaining. It seems like just because these new grabs are so revoloutionary, they also get old alot faster. I think it's almost too much focus on how to be the most individual skier. Don't misunderstand me, I really enjoy watching new shit come and go, but you can still be up and coming in this sircus just by doing other peoples tricks. Like, if you're young or have a really killer style. The ones with the smoothest styles, don't always have the newest tricks in their bags.
I hate it too when people too obviously try to copy monkeystyle or some other famous, and easy recognizable style. But when I see a clip at this page from some random guy, it's all about if I like the trick or not. If the trick's dope, then it's dope. No matter if I've just seen hundreds of clips with the same grab earlier.
When you say that there's a lot of kids trying to be sooo cool at Vail right now, I know what you're speaking of, because there always is such coolness in the air at big comps where pros and newcomers play together. And you're right, it's lame. Lame, lame, lame. And at comps it's really visible, since all the less pro guys wanna do what all the pro guys do. Good blog by the way, I like discussing this topic. I guess maybe discussing is just crazy trendy at the moment.
As much as i try to be original and creative i throw some double japs sometimes just because it's a dope grab and i like the way it looks. Part of your orginality is what tricks u do n dont do because u dont like. Like the one foot slide. Some people like it, some hate it. Well for some people like me who like it, i try to do it n the people who dont like do do/try it n i think that's part of each individual style
netrom has a good point, because i through alot of shit that ive seen before but the big idea is WHO CARES about individuality and style and copyright bullsh*t, just ski for the fun of it like all the pros say, ski because you have the passion to, and if your throwin someone elses tricks on your own time and its fun then so be it. but if your looking into competitions and looking to create a look for yourself then yea you gotta hit up some creativity, do your thing and have fun at the same time. w/ev my point is skiing is about skiing not about how much your impressing who ever is watching, jus have fun and don't stop testing yourself.
and one more comment on the ski dress code, stop ranting on guys that look better then you do, im not gunna go skiing in fucking jeans, one because its cold and 2 because you look fkin rediculous, i mean yea who cares ? but wheres your self esteem ? shiiit i dont care man, when i go skiing, i like to look good for me. i sag my pants, and buy jackets 2 times 2 big for me because i like how i look, as long as it dosent affect my skiing then im gunna keep lookin good
i dont think we should always worry about being completely different from everyone else. thats really not possible. sure, there are a lot of people wearing jerseys in the park. I'm one of them. But baggy will always be better looking than skin tight racer suits and not all of us can get next year's shit like the pros who are throwing down. And they should be throwing down... They're pros. You can't expect some no name kid, new to skiing, to throw tricks never done before. He/she has to start somewhere before they can develop their own style. That means copying someone else. What do you do when yuou start a band? You play a cover song to see how everyone plays together. Not because you want to be exactly like the band you're covering. I think you should lay off a little bit. Everything, even skiing, needs some conformity.
thats what max has going for him.... something others don't. he doesn't give a fuck what the pros are doing. he does his own thing... ie ^ that zero. nice rant doug.
bring the rubber chicken back man.. that was original. I remember seeing you crash so hard in the WSI superpipe like 3 years ago. you took down all the fences and shit, it was awesome.
