ok. i have had ipods for the past 2 years. it started with a 3rd gen, which i loved. then i got the video when it first came out. those things sucked. with the ipod becoming less "high end audio equipment" as it became more mainstream, the quality of them has gone from insainly nice and durable (3rd gen) to absolute crap in the 5th gens. ive been through 4 of them, and on the 4th replacement, i said fuck it, and sold it. i will say however, that Apple has been excelent about replacing them. needless to say, i loved the ipod (when it functioned). so i will try and keep this as unbias as possible.

well, i got a white Zune to replace my ipod, and i am incredibly happy with it. first off, it is noticeable bigger than an ipod. but if you ask me, its a good thing. with that size, you get an amazing screen. when viewing pics and movies, it orients itself horizontally, which is sweet. However, there is currently no way to switch the screen orientation (like when its docked in my car). not a big problem, slightly annoying thou. plus, you can change the background image. overall the opperating system is stellar, easy on the eyes, smoothly animated, and while searching through list, the first letter is always displayed in the background, and its a much better system than the ipods.

other awesome features, the radio. so nice to have something new to listen to. i dunno if it does it everywhere, but here in the city, most of the big radio stations have tags, so itll dispplay the station name and even the song artist. thats fuckin dope right there. the radio quality is supurb as well.

the wireless is a cool feature, but i havent been able to play with it too much, as noone else has um yet! it can be turned off to save bettery life, which is also AMAZING. it also appears that battery life isnt as affected by the cold as much as ipods.

now, the MP3 player itself is awesome, but many people were concerned about the uploading system. no worries. first, it opened up, and had literally cloned itunes, in the sense that all my playlist, ratings, etc etc had transfered seamlessly. SICK. for the most part, its pretty much identical to itunes. things are very well layed out and easy to get around. prolly the BIGEEST plus, is say goodby to converting videos, its all seamlessly done as the Zune is uploaded. if you have a pretty big video library, it still takes some time to convert, so plan having it set up and working for a day or two straight.

ZUNE High points

-awesome screen

-widescreen movies

-radio

-customizable display

-lots of awesome movies and music included

-good interface program with easy video conversion

-wireless

-tough case that doesnt show scratches like ipod

-stellar battery life, not affected by the cold

-TOUGH! it just feels well built.

ZUNE annoyances (pretty much the things i liked more with the ipod)

-no clock, calander, notes, or games. not a big deal if you got your cell phone. but i did like having solitaire on my ipod.

-no way to change screen orientation with videos

-size

overall, i DEFINATLY reccomend it. way way nicer than my ipod. i freakin love it.

oh, one more thing. using high end headphones, (Sony MDR-VJ700s), the ipod does reproduce music a TAD better. with normal headphones, there is no descerable difference.

if it worked with macs I'd buy it. Also they need to make it so you can sync it with your computer wirelessly. Sending music is kind of a cool idea but I'd still rather be able to wirelessly sync with my computer.

yeah I just got mine and I love it. Got all my favorite songs and videos on it.

But back to the Zune. I heard something about being able to transfer songs to other players 3 times every three days. That true?

Your allowed to share songs with another person but that person can only listen to it 3 times or have it for 3 days, whichever comes up first.

Well I have a Creative Zen Vision and I have to say I am pretty happy with it. The screen and layout is all really smooth and everything works fine. One problem new users may have is the touch pad. It is a vertical touch pad which took me about a week to get used to but now it works fine. But the major plus about the creative is the sound quality that comes out of the mp3 player. This is the best sound I have heard with regular headphones compared to any other mp3 player. Everything is distinctly and perfectly heard with a nice bass boost too. Now add in a awesome pair of headphones and then you have nirvana. Besides that everything else works fine including the radio, movies, pictures, and even Creative Mediasource (the itunes equivalent).

i have a black zune

did u say that all your vids got converted automaticly?

cuz i have to buy or download (if u tell me a free program) to convert all my files from .mov to .wmv like all my podcast and downloaded videos that were in the .mov format

plz help

huh. wierd. all mine went over fine. even the onese that were converted for ipod. have played with the settings? you may need to adjust the settings and tell it to upload them.

k so how do people break thier ipods. Ive had two.

i have a video 30 gig, and it is rad times ten.

its full and functions perfectly. I dont use it for video cause ummm, u cant watch video when youre shredding, or driving, or not wanting a headache from squinting. lol

Maybe Im just a simple fella, who cant understand how people can go through 5 of anything.

my battery lasts for fully 2 days on the mountain without charge, and those are 8am to 4pm. no joke. I like itunes. I like iPods.

wow, i didnt mean to say all that.

glad you like your zune, beware of the blue screen of microsoft death.

history of my video ipods:

first one, 2 months, landed on it skiing. kinda bent it up. then the battery stopped holding a charge

i actually have no idea what happened to the second one

third one i babied the hell out of it, and the headphone jack broke

ops hit reply to early. the 4th one was replaced, and i sold it immediatly and got my Zune

i lost mine...fuck.

thanks for the review, i haven't read or heard much about them, good to hear they kick ipod ass, i hate ipods.

and they make it in brown but if they made brown ipods, id prob stick with an ipod. is there gonna be some type of smaller zune you think?

i got a zune for christmas. its hella sick. alot better then ipods and has nice sized screen which makes it great for watchin videos.

ZUNES FUCKING BLOW.

DO NOT SUPPORT MICROSOFT OR THE MAJOR LABELS.

please.

if you have broken your ipod, you are a fucking idiot, and you will break a zune.

if you want an unbreakable mp3 player, get the new nano. they dont have hard drives and have a fully aluminum case.

fuck you man. apple can burn in hell.

got my video ipod for xmas last year, this september the headphone jack stopped workin completely randomly, got it replaced, no big deal

THEN, just like 3 weeks ago i was listenin to it in school, all of a sudden it freezes up on me and starts makin these clickin noises. then after like 20 seconds this pictire of and ipod with a frown face shows up on the screen. and wouldnt you know it, my warranty had ended 8 days before. and of course im out of luck. my dad put my bros harddrive in my ipod to see if that was the problem, and it was. so i ordered a new hard drive. 80 bucks. wow how i love ipods.

I'm an apple lover myself, but it is nice to hear the opinion of an educated man. I'm hoping the Gen6 ipod is as amazing as they have been predicting for the last six months. If not I may be looking into Zune.

since my ipod broke, IM an idiot? stfu bitch. first off, i have nothing against apple. i think thier computers are nice, granted i dont particularly like them personally, and they are wicked expensive, but thats my opinion. as for ipods, like i said, the 3rd generation ones were the nicest MP3 player ive ever seen. sure, now the tech is outdated on them, but they were incredibly well designed, functioned beautifully, and were just great little gadgets. however, with the success of the ipod, Apple became even bigger (yeah, cause apple is SUCH a small little core company like you said -NOT), anyway, in order to sell more ipods, cost had to be lowered and more features needed added. with that, the fit and finish of the 3rd gens gradually started to fade, and the video ones are to the point of being straight up garbage.

now, you can continue to be a little trend whore, and blindly belive things like ipods are the only way to go for mp3 players, or you can be open minded, and you might realize for the same cost, you can get something FAR nicer. you have obviously never sat and played with a zune, cause if you did, there would be no way you could say it blows. they are sick. you may not care for it, but they are not shit, by any means.

BITCH!

if the screen was like my parents camera it would be soo much better (so it sounds)

when you take a landscape portait you can hold the camera level and it will show up widescreen, or rotate the camera 90 degrees so the screen becomes portrait style, and the picture rotates itself so it's still upright, but there are black bars above and below it (so it still has the widescreen style)

just wanted to let y' no i figured out wat was wrong with it converting .mov files and i fixed it

thanx fer the help

Thats the problem of living in Canada, some things are not released in Canada until a while after America. I was so pumped on buying one, and then I found out there was no release date yet for Canada, but whatever, my Ipod mini is still going strong, so I guess I can wait

man, i just got the 2nd gen shuffle. It may be iTunes, but I have to format it every other time because it gets an error. This is a known problem with it and the suggested action to the error from Apple is to reformat it.

i have a 3rd gen ipod, but i think im gonna get a zune next. having all microsoft computers around me right now, i think a zune would be much easier to work with, i also want something with videos, and im sick of trying to connect my ipod to my pc

ive heard a lot of bad stuff about the video ipods, yet i havent heard anything bad happen with nanos. i would like to get a zune but for skiing i think it may be a bit large and less convenient than a nano. i lost my nano about 3 days ago so i think im gona go out and buy the new nano, no hard drive and an aluminum shell sounds pretty good to me

psp its all i need i have 150 songs 5 like 8 min movies alot of game savings on it and like 30 pics and thats all on a 4 gig memorory card thats all i need and i still and have 2 gigs left what would you need 30 gigs for and the ipod just plays songs psp does everything internet is sweet on it and everything is good trust me go for it its not that big either it fits in your pocket nicely

Yeah mine was loosing its charge so i got a battery kit off ebay for 15 bucks and it works perfectly now
