Zion NP Fall Camping?

So, Im thinking of heading down to ZNP over fall break to get one more weekend of camping in before the snow starts falling. I haven't been down there since I was a little kid, and we went during the summer, so Im sure things are a little different.

Does anyone have good suggestions on where to tent camp, and what hikes I should check out? I'll be going with my GF, but she'll be game for whatever.
 
theres a spot about 10 minutes before you hit the park that has free camping, if you dont wanna pay for it inside the park...
 
I think I'm going down there as well. Not sure if I want to camp in Zion though or closer to St. George, as I will be climbing and I think there's a lot more sport climbing near St. George. So any suggestions for St. George would be nice as well.
 
What kind of camping is it? I've looked into South and Watchmens in the park, but it seems like they are more geared towards RV or car camping. I don't necessarily want to be camping on a gravel patch, but I'm not going to be packing in either. We have an SUV, so we can make it to somewhere off the road if there's anything like that, I just don't know what the rules are in NP's.
 
a trick ive used to poach camping in national parks is just park on the side of the road and leave a note saying "shooting astrophotography, be back soonish". used it at arches, zion and yosemite and never had a problem with getting towed or a ticket. it allows you to camp anywhere too, we just try to be up and going by sunrise the next day so it doesnt get sketchy.
 
its your basic camping spot. by a little creek. if you have a SUV you'll be more than good. i got to it in my civic.
 
i only went there for a short weekend trip, but we hiked angels landing. not a difficult hike at all, but the views are great and the last stretch is pretty fun. when we were there in the end of october last year they had closed all but one campsite so it was a bit crowded
 
you have to do angels and I also like hidden canyon as well. I don't know why people do any of the super long hikes as they don't have any better views and are boring for like 6 hrs
