First off thanks

Second of all....

Woah, is it just me or did amplive go waaaaaaaayyyy overboard on the beats. This sounds like a remixed lil wayne song, wow, seriously what happened to zion I.

I mean, some of the beats are good, but wow I was just not expecting this at all. Holy crap I'm getting old.

It's more... well, upbeat or 'clubby', if that makes sense. It's really different from Zion's older stuff. Don't get me wrong, I still like a quite a few of the songs, but it seems like he's trying to cross-over from the 'underground' to 'mainstream', if you know what I mean (eg Common, Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, etc). It kinda sucks seeing an artist you love sell out, but I guess that's what most of the mainstream artists have fallen for and can no longer see the division.

Stay hyphy fellas, I'll give this album a few more listens in the meantime.

i like it, its a little faster. i feel like hes changing his sound, without completely sucking.

ah ok. i just know your like the most opinionated person about rap on here, and if you didnt like zion i.... idk what i would say to you

holy main stream!?

It definitely has the club feel to it so far.. but its still pretty dope!

yeah now that Ive listened to it, it doesnt seem as main stream, but defintely more up beat..

I liked it, but not sure if I like it better than the last albums..

WOW, ok, I listened to it fully once.

And I'm calling you all out as hypocrites. I'm guessing none of you like lil wayne. Well I'm sorry but some of these songs sound way much like weezy. We all know zumbi has the whiny voice going on but he definitly amped up the whine in this album and went from the relaxed style like in Trippin to the very short, choppy, emphasized, multiple internal rhyme, lil wayne style.

On the other hand, amplive has some good beats as always. He has gotten a lot more skilled and complex but also has gone waaaaaaaayyy too 2009 computerized. I'm hearing robot voices in this, really? I have to say I like the African drums and generally the beats sound better than most club stuff but still is club and whack. Theres no need to repeat the same shitty verse over and over again just let zumbi rock the mic.

Who cares about lil wayne, blah blah. This album kills it. Some songs are different but most kill it!

Sick album, Zion Is one of my favorites. Album is alot different from like mind over matter, but i like it! +k for the link

he SOUNDS like lil wayne, but his lyrics actually have meaning, and he doesnt autotune, like weezy has turned to more recently. im a lil wayne fan but zion i kills him times 100000

of course its going to be different than the first album. artists have to make some sort of progression, it would become vapid as fuck otherwise. every artist has their best album and once that has happened, its typically all downhill from that point.

nah I agree with what you guys say. Although its not as good as the old stuff, its still nice to listen to something new and is better than the new new stuff.

first of all to the thread maker. thank you for putting this up. +karma fa sho.

Quailman, people like Lil Wayne because he's very well produced but he has absolutely no substance to back up that production other than his stage presence. His lyrics are shit. Zion I is very well produced as well but actually has substance to back up that production through stage presence, an actual care about what he sings about and amazing lyrics.

Amplive is one of the best DJs in the game and Zumbi is on of the best MCs. That's not even arguable. If you researched this album a little, you'd see that they did a lot of experimentation with this album. They wanted to intentionally create a diverse album and spent a lot of time producing and tuning it to how they wanted it to sound. It's obviously not going to please everybody but it's a great album if you ask me. It really shows their ability to diversify their music and Zumbi comes through and dilivers some insane lines on top of some of Amplive's dope ass beats like always.

Bottomline: See Zion I live and you will apreciate them so much more

Oh, and please tell me what you mean by he sold out? They're independent. They made their own record label called Live Up records. A major record label would never allow such a diverse album to be released. They can do whatever the fuck they want.

Yeah Ive also noticed that this album is all over the place, some songs I feel like Im in a club, the next its oldies music, then salsa inspired.. I still love it though.

Also Im not that familiar with little wayne.. I mean I know the song fireman and mr carter, but Im just not hearing anything that sounds like him in the album.. thats just me I guess?

No, it's not just you. I don't hear anything like Lil Wayne either. I was just trying to prove a point which probably won't work because we have two different tastes in hip hop.

i take it back. On the song Geak to the Beat I can definitely see where Quailman says Zumbi flows like Wayne. Zumbi just does it better cuz he doesn't rhyme words with themselves and they lyrics actually have meaning and lead towards a larger story.

This album is such a trip! Nothing like any other Zion I album. Im still undecided. I love amplive and I think hes doing very creative things, on this album and his solo stuff. Most of it is super sick, with the exception of a few tracks.

Kinda reminds me of when Blackalicious released The Craft... Just a totally different sound and feel.

yes, but it's not called science of breath. it's called "search and the seizure". you can get it for free off his myspace. if not anymore, pm me.

could you hook up vol. 2-3? i only have the first.

word hook it up with dl links if you can. and none of this torrent bs, they dont work at school lol

yeah im gonna have to agree with you. theres a couple good ones, but a lot of them i couldnt really listen through. they changed too much.

i've listened to it a few times through now and i think i like the mixtape i uploaded up few posts up better. i still like this album though but there's a few songs that are just like, "why did you include this in the final cut of your album?" I wish he put someo f hte new songs from the mixtape on there.

by a few songs, i mean the only two i don't like are DJ DJ and Peppermint Patty

the rest are good with a few rediculously good ones.

This album makes me so sad. Zion I was my favorite hip hop group for years, and I still listen to True and Livin'. Sadly this album is such a departure from the amazing beats, lyrics, and flows that they had put together in previous albums. I hope they can return to their previous level of greatness someday.

I feel like Amplive made a bunch of dope beats and had Zumbi try to fit a song to them. Some of these beats have so many crazy changes.

when I first listened and heard geek to the beat I was like Fuck! Zion i has gone Lil Wayne. Then I listened to the rest and their are some really sick songs. The title track and the caged birds collab with brother ali are the best by far.

yeah dude, i saw them perform for the second time in march and it was sooo dope. Zumbi even brought the opener on to jam with.

The first time my friends heard that song they thought it was lil wayne. They don't really listen to rap though.
i personally love the album

its got a couple good tracks but most of its just not that great. Not something i'm gonna play through more than once or twice
