Can anyone tell me what's it like skiing at the Zermatt in Switzerland in May? I'm gonna be over there and i"m considering taking my skis. Worth it?

Not really.
Until 1st of May it's winter season.
Then 2nd of May until late June it's intermediary season with only 2 basic carving slopes open and a chairlift. During this period the park and pipe are not shaped.
June 24th the summer park is ready!!!!!

Is there decent skiing though during this time? What kind of vertical would I be looking at during the May period?

CORRECTION
Zermatt has extended it's winter season till May 8th (not included). The biggest mountain will remain open including park and pipe. This made my day.
After that only the Furggsattel chair is open. This one serves two red slopes between 3365m and 2939m. They're good slopes, and you could still get powder..
And if you are willing to hike there's still a shitload of terrain available.
