Zen Stone Garden

My friend just called me and asked me if I wanted a "Zen Stone Garden". After enquiring what he meant, he replied that it is and I quote (coarsely translated):

"A plack of wood with fine sand in it and a few rocks thrown in for good measure. I can also get you this small, hilarious rake that you can use to... like, rake the sand into patterns and shit. It's like a snazzy deco-element, like a drawing board for your soul if you will, or just a fucking plack with sand and some random stones on it. I just put four stones in the middle and left the fifth one in the corner to teach it some fucking manners."

Well, why the fuck not, I said. So, next week I'll be getting myself a motherfucking mini-stone garden, Zen up in this bitch.

Does anyone else have one or know someone who does and what are they getting out of it?

Used to live in Japan and my memories of some of the real ones are that they were pretty much the most calm/amazing places ever. Just like, another level. (I was really young)
