they had to make sure to specify it is the sharpest lens for SLR's as leica still has them beat with the apo asph cron (;

It's Zeiss'sss's's''s's's new design language, and I absolutely hate it.

I've been lusting for it ever since I got to stroke it's smooth shaft once.

But quite a contrast with Zeiss's more regular design aesthetic.

With Zeiss I expect knurly bulky sharp aluminium rings and surfaces.

This is exactly what my first reaction was. I think the rubber grip is a significant step back in terms of their overall image. The smooth rubber will be great for adding focus gears and rigging out the lens, but out of the box, I'd rather hold a ZF / ZE.

Not to mention that overtime rubber degrades and becomes dirty filthy gunk.

I have late 80's lenses with focus rings that just disintegrate on touch.

Zeiss deserves a smack on their filthy bum, especially after Zeiss seized production of the Ikon.

while I do agree, everything I have read sounds like it feels very solid when compared to any of the canikon offerings. If you actually care, you aren't shooting those cameras anyways. Modern hasselblad lenses feel very nice in the hand all things considered
