i understand where your coming from, but i dont think the white people in this group claim to be rastas. seems to me that they just love the music and theres nothing wrong with that. as for the Jamaica thing, the music coming out of Jamaica is nothing like what it used to be. its 99% dancehall beats with r&b vocals or so it seems (exaggeration). nothing wrong with that either, i like that too. but as far as roots reggae goes, youre gonna have to look beyond just jamaica nowadays.
Theres this underground white rapper by the name of Marshall Mathers. Just bust on to the scene like last year and has been tearin shit up ever since. Some say he's even better than Mac Miller. I don't think he's proved it yet but with the young raw talent this guy has anytings possible. Check him out.
haha dude crimsons the shit i was gonna post some of them but you covered it
seeing as most of nsg seems to be hipsters who listen to mostly newer rock and prog rock isnt the most popular genre on here maybe you havent heard of bands like yes, jethro tull, van der graaf generator and of course floyd. maybe you have whatever but still classic rock>>>>> any other genre
Little People, sick songs, this one needs to be used in an edit NOW
Another local band, great pop-punk
I've got more too, I"ll keep em coming. If you like any of the bands, especially the first and last, check them out, they're pretty small and would love the support.
Damn what the hell are they doing ripping Kanye off.....
But seriously I love prog rock. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer are really good, and Genesis may be one of my favourite bands of all time, and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway may be the greatest concept album ever.
i bought The Villains album Annabelle, i'm the only person i know who has it, and i'm pretty sure they broke up a few years back, but it's a pretty good album.
also i have to give a nod to my friend Madi Allen, she's a singer/songwriter
King Fantastic. Everyone knows Why Where What on here but nobody I've ever met actually listens to his other songs, or has even heard of him. One of the best rap artists for sure in my book.
i live in ottawa, and pretty much every indie artist coming through books through one company called spectrasonic, so it's really easy to find any bands that come through. as such, i get to see a lot of really good yet fairly obscure bands. some of my favourites have been:
Deer Tick
Andrew Jackson Jihad
Jeff the Brotherhood
Lifestory:Monologue
Frank Turner (maybe not obscure, but definitely my favourite)
and sort of obscure bands that i just happen to like include
the antlers
said the whale (depending where you're from)
Raised Among Wolves
Big Deal
aaaaand etc.
now just like everyone else who took the time to make a list of bands they think people haven't heard of, i feel like an asshole.
HORSE the band. A "nintendocore" band if you will: metal/hardcore infused with 16 bit synths. I'm not going to post a video because nobody will watch it anyways and my browser is already shitting bricks trying to scroll through this. But definitely don't sleep on it if you're into heavier music. They're a lot of fun, and if there is any band I could see live, that would be it.
Can't post videos and not unknown just underappreciated. Sam Roberts Band. So sick, all of his stuff has a great relaxed feel and the new Collider album is banging. Let It In has this sick Cali/Island pipeline vibe to it.
Check out Avi Buffalo. He's super talented, quirky with his singing and songwriting, and has a song for every mood. I'm shit with posting and embedding links n such but someone can help me with this:
