My dad wins. He had death cab for cutie, when they became a band pretty much. He also had modest mouse, before anyone knew about them either. M83 was pretty funny, he found them I think like a year ago, and he also found SHM almost as soon as they were formed too.
known about them since I got into metal like 5 years ago. fucking amazing band.
anyway, if dubstep... probably Vexare or modestep.
other bands...
My epic, Wolves at the gate, tides of man, dance gavin dance, casino madrid, astro (knew about them before TC) - most of these bands aren't hipster bands, but just not well known at all.
Places, out of Denver. I went to highschool with one of the drummers and really looked up to him, awesome guy, his brother drums also and their oldest brother plays bass. They moved down to Colorado to meet up with some guys a few years ago and have been making some pretty awesome music.
I got a chance to meet Eyedea a while back, while I was waiting in line to go to a concert he was opening for, I really had no idea how much talent I was talking to until he started his set up on stage. He was super nice and totally stoked to go out on stage that night. Really sad he passed away.
Kristoff Krane is a local artist who graduated from my highschool. He makes some of the best all around music in my opinion. He was also best friends with eyedea
