Your picks for realski 2021?

Hey guys,

wanted to see with you who you'd pick for the 2021 lineup of realski

food for thoughts here are the previous lineups:

2016:

gold : wesson

silver: houle

bronze: vila

others: riley, dadali, wallisch

2017:

gold: magnus

silver: Harlaut

bronze: LJ

others: Khai, wallisch, wesson

2018:

gold: bdog

silver: Antti

bronze: Keegan

others: LJ, magnus, hornbeck

2019:

gold: bdog

silver: peyben

bronze: ABM

others: kimbo, mango, Harlaut

2020:

gold: mango

silver: Bmile

bronze: hackel

others: zahner, albaladejo, tjader

Personnally i feel like it could be a great time to bring back past ''competitors''. With the gold medalist and fan favorite being re-invited each year, there was a couple times where i would've wanted to see another version from the silver or bronze medalist (JF Houle, Keegan, Peyben, Antti, ABM).

Some long time heavy hitters who still haven't had a shot include Sean Jordan, Will Berman, Laurent DM, Sämi Ortlieb, Dale Talkington and many more

So, with this year's gold and fan favorite, we already know Mango & Hackel will be back (hoping no ones gets injured or anything).

So who would be your 4 other picks?

Mine would be Antti, Peyben, Bmile and Keegan.

- Antti is a beast

- Peyben had one hell of a part and im sure he could one up it

- Bmile stepped up big this year and he is dedicated so im sure he would step it up again

- Keegan is incredibly good and except for the filming, his realski was incredible

would also love to see some guys like ABM or Ahall, but i think it might be a big year for comp skiers

TLDR; hackel &mango are in, whos your other 4

-Alex Hall: considering his parts in Faction's movies and comp results, I guess he could manage realski even during a preolympic comp season

-Sean Jordan: big name, big tricks on big features

-Cal Carson: we need swerve

-Lauri Kivari: underground outsider loved by the public

Meeks is highest in my list for real ski. He has put in the time and only gets better and better. You can’t ssay he hasn’t earned the opportunity

after that I’m not sure but I am more interested in skiers who have proven their productivity in the streets rather than some people who have only dabbled. Having 2 or 3 full street parts under your belt should be a pre requisite for an x games part.

i second meeks

Give Laurent DM a try.. he KILLS it style wise!!! Also would love to see Antti another go his part was amazing last year.

Casabon for sure. Contest felt a little empty without him but Mango, Hackel, and Albalegro kept the party alive. Alex Hall would also be great to watch. I think he could really put on a good show. Sorry

if I misspelled anything.

I thought bdogs 2019 was pretty mediocre for a gold, doesn't mean it wasn't sick though. I still think LJ got screwed more then anyone else on this list.

Came here to say Lauri Kivari but many people beat me to it. Anttu or Psycho P would be great too, but not all 3 in one year. I would also love to see Sami Ortlieb, he would make the most unique edit by far but also has some really tech tricks. I like LDM's style but I feel like his tech level in the streets isn't quite real ski level. I feel like Will Berman has been putting in work for a really long time and deserves to be in there. I also think Zahner deserves another chance, but there's no way he comes back next year as there's already gonna be at least 2 returners, 3 if phil comes back from his injury. Meeks or Ahall could also put out a banger.

Sami is a very underrated street skier and underrated skier overall

I would love to see Anttu doing a real ski video on black crows ?

Too many people deserve an invite to real ski, whether they should do it or not is a more valid argument though. The Xgames is a huge opportunity and crazy part of our sport but after doing it twice as a filmer I feel that it is not the best format to make a video part nor the best way to showcase a skiers/film makers talent. The best part about real ski is that its such a large stage and the video is seen by so many. The worst parts about real ski are having such strict guidelines, the fact that it has to be judged, and not making the part for yourself. I feel that if the same footage that is used in the real ski videos is saved and expanded into a more full and complete part it has the opportunity to be much more powerful. When you look at videos like nuance and en particular, if you can imagine watching these videos for the first time without seeing phils real ski videos first, I think they would stand out even more as some of the best street videos in the past few years. Sometimes I think about the amount of time and effort Mango and I have put in to both realskis and imagine if we had saved all that footage for the current two year project that we are working on. This would have resulted in one of the most profound street parts of all time in my opinion. I do plan on making an extended version of jakes realski footage at some point but even if its a better thought out and made part it wont make as much of an impact since so many people have already seen the footage a number of times. Also I don't want this to come across as me being salty about real ski or anything like that, It was a huge opportunity and I enjoyed making both videos. All I am trying to say is that I feel like there is much more power to a longer and more personal video part that isnt being judged on how big of spots you can hit, and how many clips you can cram in to 90 seconds.

As far as who should be in next year my opinion is that this contest should be for street skiers. If you are a competition skier you wont be able to put the same amount of time and effort into finding the right spots and making a well rounded part.

Meeks would be rad, he has some of the most passion for street skiing of anyone I've ever worked with and has definitely earned a spot at this point. Lauri would be an amazing person as well who I think would have a good mixture of immense creativity and big spots. Both are OG's and I think they could both make amazing realskis, personally however I would almost prefer to see both of these people continue making longer more sophisticated video parts. Andy p, Paddy flanagan, a40, welf, ahall, psycho p, anttu, krypto, jacob belanger, or cal carson (the list goes on) would all be capable of making amazing realskis too without a doubt.

My top pick for next years realski, or any year from here on for that matter would be Harald Hellstrom from forre. After spending some time with him in finland this winter I can confidently say that I have never met a skier who is more made for this competition. The spots that he wants to hit are some of the biggest I've ever seen and knowing that he wants to make a realski part at some point, he is saving some of the craziest ones for when that opportunity is given to him. I also think that his skiing has evolved even from the last street footage that the public has seen of him. His Forreal part was extremely impressive but I think his style, control on his skis, and the size of spots that he hits has progressed this winter. If given the opportunity this kid would blow minds!

On a final sidenote, I wrote the word video part a number of times in this comment but the xgames videos are not video parts. They are not a part of any bigger thing, a video "part" has to be a part of something.

Harald's part in Forreal blew my mind. I didn't put him down in my comment because I doubt x games would pick him due to how fresh he is on the scene. Def my favorite up and coming street skier, hopefully has another insane part so we can see him 2021 or 2022

bring back keegan and I would be so cool to see Seany j in dis, he definitely deserved an invite years back. also keep comp skiers out of real ski pls
