I have a question for all of you out there in newschooler land.

What is your ideal ski movie? What would like more powder? park? pipe? urban rails?

What would make you perfect freeskiing movie?

Thanks

ummm, it is hard, but i would say maybe a few pow lines, and like a good mix of sick editing with a little of everything and good music

i like watching movies which don't have 12093887123087127308123078ft road gaps and such impossible stuff, leave those for the jackass people. normal park jumps/rails which are doable are nice, more technical stuff like 450 disasters. i think that the last time i saw one was back in the days when propaganda was released.

so this is just my opinion but i really like watching jibbing and park riding because they are the sort of things which i could do too.

i like park, and urban the most.

my favorite segement ever was steel spences in rfa. he isnt my favorite skier but the editing was incredibly good and theere was a good variety of hits. and no offense but the teaser you put out this year was pretty boring to me. i prefer teasers like wicked and wski106, fast pace with stuff i havent seen before and good editing

in my opinion plehouses teaser was really good, excellent camera work made a big impression. i wish i had enough money to buy the movie.

camera work means nothing to me, im more about editing and soundtrack. that leaves the biggest impression. after that the skiing is what leaves its mark.

I love versys. Nothing overly difficult yet you get to see what each person brings to the table. Versys is more like a skate video, i like that.

There's a really cool part in RFA with Mike Nick where he hits 3 jumps in a row, almost like a rhythm section on a BMX track, and throws super smooth tricks off all of them. Movies need more of that.

Freezy deletes all my posts because he doesn't like me, so I suggest you message him to make him stop.

My favorite shit in movies is someone sessioning a rail or bc jump (tanner in 1242), just throwing down harder and harder each time. or else multiple jumps in a row, like Mike Nick in RFA, but rather in the BC. Also a good amount of lifestyle always makes a vid better, adds some flavor to it. All that, plus some sick editing (not too cluttered, just smooth), and a soundtrack of my choice, would make a sick movie in my opinion.

i think u need to have the music go more with the type of skiing and stuff. in the intro in forward, when he says feel the rush, the skiers are wrecking or something, if u watch it ull see whta i mean, and yea soundtrack is pretty big for a movie. u cant have a shtty soundstrack and good shots, then u have to mute it and thats gay

i'd base my movies on any robotfood movie, huge hits with tons of stylie backcountry trickery, along with some park and jib stuff, but taht's what i love about snowboarding is how much they trick of natural stuff in the backcountry, just rad, aswell as good music, i hate music in ski movies, it really does suck. snowboard movies got there shit together

GO FLAMES!!

i like urban stuff

ski movies with some sort of loose plot, and other cool stuff of people messing around on lil homemade setups but still throwing down, and a powder segment that isnt shot in a helicopter but right their next to the action. and some original stuff not just shots of tanner hall throwing so called 'steezy' 900s

Variety is what I like to see in a Ski Movie. I like to see creative angles in park and pipe riding because park can get old to watch after a while. Follow cams are so cool, good follow cams are an absolute must. The Cab Cork 7 follow cam in the Yearbook Teaser is a good example. Pipe is also awesome to watch, I especially liked Phil Belan's solo runs at June in Ready Fire Aim, with the tracking shots and the upping the ante-factor tied in there too.

Rails in the park are a must see, style on rails takes precedence over a sloppier technical maneuver, but of course you have to have tech stuff in there like Iannick's crazy 270 on blindside switch-up 270 out...Sloppy rails are just not good film.

Urban rails are also cool if the set-up is creative, and if the angle is creative. Its always interesting to see someone eat it then grease it. The most important thing with urban rails for me is a cool looking new angle to shoot from.

Natural hits in the BC are awesome, but kickers are cool as well. Pretty much any jumping involving the BC is awesome too watch. But there has to be innovation from both the camera-crew and the riders, not the same old shots everytime. Switch in Pow is something I can't get enough of at the moment.

Big Mountain lines are also on top of my list, because its another non-resort aspect that is less seen in most films. Of course, it takes a large budget to go heli-skiing, but if possible its always cool to see some helishots. Ski basing is not for me though. Its cool the first time...then blah. I'd rather go do it than watch it.

For me, overediting will kill a movie. A solid soundtrack is of course necessary, bad music will also really make for a not so pleasant film. Simple editing with creative shots beats out simple shots with overdone editing I'd say. But there is always room for some cool creativity in editing, just when things become too overedited it bothers me.

yo yo yo dawgs, my favorite thing in skiing movies is where t-dizzle poops, his pants becasue he's to afraid to hit da 'money booter' and where mike nick sucks, it is fun to watch him becasue he sucks

LINE SUCKS!!!!

what

a movie in which a small group of kids from upstate NY ski in ice parks and mix in a couple of shots of crazy monsters aka

'I Hate NY'

(for skiing)

I HATE NY PRODUCTIONS

the movie should have a lot of technical shit like the trap rail ove rhte rocks in RFA. it looked so sick and super fun. lots of boxes and huge ass follow cams. or helmet cams. those are sick.

also, step ups and step downs in teh oregon backcountry. and the hips that pollard sometimes does.

sometimes i like to see backountry but only by seth, and park skiers who have realized powder is fun. like pep, cr, and pollard.

i think they just need to do something alittle different each time so it works well and its repetitive, and use a bit of everything that someone has said is this thread

loongg loonngg follow cams through the park. it would be sick to see a follow cam through mammoths entire rail park

...............................................................................................

look at this tiger kid, probably doesn't know a thing about videography or editing, i'm sorry but not alot of ski videos have struck as being good, maybe 2 that i actually liked, snowboarding video makers on the other hand, i don't know what it is they do differently but they seem to have their shit together a little more, instead of trying to look core and putting music that doesn't match the part, they put the best possible music with the part even if the music isn't well known or poplar, it's awesome, like if any of you on this site watch a robotfood vid, i garuantee hardly any of you would be able to tell wich song is le tigre or postal service, or gran daddy, ir stereototal

GO FLAMES!!

more follow cams deffinatly. makes me feel like I'm skiing. kinda sorta

You know what I loved, and I've only ever seen it once in a movie. Ah-Mig-Da-La! The way if was narrated and more personal into the riders and shit was great. In a world of fast paced editing and so much urban it was great to see a movie like that; it really reminded me why I ski.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

i just wanna see a helmet cam shot of a huge pipe hit

I agree with switchpollard, I like to see a wide range of footy that includes pretty much everything, park, pipe, urban, backcountry, big mountain. Watching movies with too much of any one of those can get a little old, a good variety is what I like to see the most. I also really like lifestyle stuff, to a lot of us the lifestyle of pro skiers is something we can only dream of so it's dope to see pros doing what they do off snow as well as on snow.

'Ok, punching ain't your thing...but that's ok, you're not that kind of fighter!' -Moe

no one is really saying the same thing, becuz not everyone likes the same thing, hence not everyone likes the same movies.

I believe a ski movie should be inspiring more than anything, if it's quality of film, good editing, music that gets you pumped, sick style or sick trix, it doesn't matter. In the best of worlds, we would have every criteria in a film.

I like to see segments where effort was put into them, but I dont like flashy artwork that may be difficult to create yet not so impressive to watch (aka Steele Spence in RFA, the building was cool, but that graffiti junk looked like crap). Super slow motion shots are good as long as the music flows well too. For example, Phil belan in RFA, one of the best segments ever, Simple, well edited, original music and pure style.

As for park, pow or urban. I think it should be a pretty even mix of all of them, then again different riders do different things. Lifestyle is always cool to. One thing few companies focus on are comps!!! For those of us who cant travel 1000 miles it's cool to see the highlights on a Tv instead of a computer.

What I dont like to see are segments that were put together somewhat quickly with limited footage. If you didnt get the footy or the shots didnt come out, dont bother putting them in the film. i.e. Seth in 1242 or Mike D in RFA. And if you got a trick that wasn't really all that great from 3 different angles, we only need to see one, for example seeing the same plain cork 7 over and over again in Versys.

All in all, after watching the film you should feel like you just feel like you just won a billion dollars. If possible the film should build the whole time, saving best for last, so you come out feeling great. For example, Pep and jon had great segments in 1242, but they should have ended with pep.

oh yeah and the soundtrack is pretty key to me as well, it should have a variety of types of music but it should go well with the various segments. Editing is important to me too but it's really important that the editing doesn't overshadow the skiing because that's why I watch the movie in the first place.

'Ok, punching ain't your thing...but that's ok, you're not that kind of fighter!' -Moe

^^NOOOO

jon's got u more pumped and so was fitting for last segment

the best part of any of the movies i saw this year was the second song of the credits in RFA, the song was terrible but that JP character made it really fun to watch and made everything go well with the song....plus it was all lifestyle.

def more park...the problem with videos now is that everything is bc kickers. IM TIRED OF BC KICKERRS!!!! i wanna see some good shit in the park and on park rails. also urban is awsome. more urban. i like bermans movies but hes starting to get way to much bc since he lives in colorado. just more park shit id say

dont go to new york. all it has to offer is i love ny stickers

Papa

How you can say that session 1242 or forward aren´t as good as for example Lame....I think Lame was trying to be funny and because of that it wasn´t such a good movie.

An ideal movie for me would include everything. That means powder, park, pipe, urban rails and such. But I would like to see urban the most.

****************************************

He who laughs last, just got it.

I agree with Papa, I love skiing and ski movies but my favorite movie is by far Afterbang with Lame being a close second. I don't want to sound like I'm kissing snowboardings ass but those two movies are far better than anything else released.

i really dont like watching big mountain (unless its jamie or seth) in a video so id have to say a lot more urban and keep killing it in the park.

ya, i LOVE afterbang but mainly just because of the editing and fuckin around. if u compare the riding to that of happy dayz and strike 3 (both from the same year as afterbang) u'll see that the only thing SBers are really much better at is spinning both ways. examples:

-joni malmi hardly survives that 4 kink rail that is identical to the one steele and emil coty do switchups on in strike 3.

-that blue vail s rail. travis parker and...i think willie hardly finish it and go nuts wen they do, but derek finn and tanner grease the piss out of it with 270 out

and i'm too lazy to think of anymore
