i have ridden this ski most of last season, and here is my input
Pros:
great shape, i think the dimensions of this ski are amazing. it rides switch very smoothly, is capable of laying down nice carves without loosing stability. it isnt that wide, but i think making it wider would loose some of the good handling chacteristics.
nice graphics
Pop. for the first few weeks, this ski was amazing. i could come into transistions and get far more air than on most other skis. however, i was never able to get them to ollie as good as my lines. they seemed very damp until the ski started to really flex (like in a half pipe transition)
good bases. they seemed to hold up well with minimal scratching; they were very fast to accelerate
Cons
Tosheet cracked very easily. the sidewalls were not very durable. first day out i peeled a good chunk off.
the core. This is the big problem area of this ski. one, it heavy. two, it wears out very fast. i am not a hundred percent, but i assume this is a horizontal laminate core? this is the main issue. one, it uses a ton of epoxy compared to a V lam core. this makes it alot heavier, plus all the glue joints break in alot faster than the solid strips of wood in a vlam. i have an idea for cores that i have been thinking about for a while. instead of using straight-sided strips of wood, the core is comprised of trapazoid-shaped stringers, every other one being inverted to create a flat plank. i dont have the reasources to fully develop and test it, but i think you guys should give it a shot. it should give quite a bit more pop than the standard v lam, but still weigh about the same.
alright, back to the cons,
the pieces of metal on the bases (at the tips have to go. not only do the edges delam there, but it adds quite a bit of swing weight. get red of them.
i never had any problems, but from what i hear the edges go very quick. not that this is a problem suffered only by this ski, but it does seem to plague it. Line is using a real wide base and edge this year, and i think this is really the only way to go.
my final thought.
this is a great ski that suffers from a couple design flaws. with some improvement, it would be the best park/all mountain ski out. fix the core, make it lighter, and make it durable, and youll have a winner. i am warrentying my current pair in exchange for a pair of 2005 lines. when the issues of the current skis are fixed, ill be right back on them.
Lets go skiing
