so, what is the biggest single purchase you have ever made in your life? any home owners out there?

My biggest purchase is a '98 Subby Legacy Brighton. split it with my lady, each paid $3000.

I love claim threads
Ive bought two cars in my life so far, both 3 grand cash, Id say my studio is the most expensive though. Ive spent about 6 or 7 thousand on it now.....

ohhh yeah

i forgot about my dh bike

i have about 5 grand into mine, not too try and one-up you or anything haha

$43,000 on college? Given I'm still paying that off.

$19,000 so far on my subaru. $8,000 left, but thats how much I have paid so far. Interests a bitch... so is Tax.

Being an adult sucks.

camera gear, $1500my DVC30 was $800new tripod (purchased this morning, so stoked) $200Old cam that broke $400Tapes, lens etc $100

Impreza Outback SE. I then had LoJack installed better sound system and the interior treated bringing its list price to $24,200, they took off $2000 brought it down to $22,200 + 10% tax brought it up to $24,000 so after about 6 years I'm paying $3,000 interest....
Now that I look back on the situation, I probably could have gotten the price down a bit more, but I wasn't about to argue considering they were giving it to me as a 20 year old with no co sign.

I just turned 18, and have only had a job for a year and a half. I got my car for free (gotta love the Grandparents old Buick!), so my biggest expenditure was my laptop ($1000).

WTF? how in the hell did you get a car loan for that much carrying that much college debt? and why would you want to shackle yourself with that much debt on a horribly depreciating asset?

I will give you that its a sick ride.

anywho, so far its my college education. a tad under 3k a semester, started my 5th 2 days ago. you do the math.

I also purchased my current car at the age of 18 paying cold hard cash for it. 3.5k. then proceded to put a new trany into it a little over a year later. (another 1.5k)

pouring $650 into my hellbents probably wasnt the wisest financial decision, but what the hell, you gotta splurge every once in a while. haha

3 gs up front on a car. about 6 total.
and i got a 6500 dollar loan which is going to end up costing me about 8 gs total.

262k on a house ( i think that counts right?)

16k on my car

about 12k on camera/computer stuff

Well its in my name only but my parents cosigned my mortgage and paid my down payment, which i have to pay them back for though.

parents were gonna give away my brothers old car (engine gone to pieces) but i spent $2000 for a new engine and spent all summer putting it in with my dad. This counts as week 2 of my personal working car that i call my own that's mine and i own it personally that's mine and not anyone elses... that's mine.

that and got my HV30 with all accessories last week ($1100)

---------

worked 2 jobs for the past year and a half

$10k for a car for me. paid cash. almost done with my associates and im debt free. i put cash in the stock market also. i have 32k in the market right now. im getting my bachelors but im going to try and do it as cheaply as possible.

im not paid enough to afford a mortgage for a house, or in the situation to consider waiting out the housing market in the event i want to move. but i will eventually put a good chunk of what i have saved in to a house.

mortgage payments are never much more then most rent on an equivalent place; often less. Say you buy a 3 bedroom, $300,000 pad, find $50,000 for a down payment, go with a 30 year fixed, you will be looking at about $1200 to $1500 a month. Then you can rent out the other two rooms for $400-$600 a month (depends on location) and you could be living for much the same or less cost of renting a place, while building equity.

I did the math, and was going to do the same thing this fall, but they took a different offer on the place I wanted.

I have bought quite a few things in the past year, I guess I'm a bit of a consumerist whore.

These are the bigger things I can think of:

Truck - $3500 (In the last month; brakes $900, exhust $150, tyres $800.)

iPhone - $800

Bike - $1200

Laptop - $1200

Camera & lenses - $1300

Skis & Bindings - $800

Boots - $450

So about $11,000 of stuff in the last year... my first year of working full time haha

i bought a brand new crazy goped when i was like 13 that was a grand. all my money now goes to gas and insurance now,
