Your Arguments for Gay Marriage

For or against? Which do you think is right and why?

As you know with the election a couple months away, Gay marriage is a pretty big issue to alot of people, and a vote for one candidate is completely opposite from the other in almost every way. So what about gay marriage? Give us your thoughts and why you think you're right.

PS. No drama, no queer or fags/slurs. Get it on.

You should be able to get the rights afforded to married couples by our government, no matter the gender, or the benefits should be abolished.

i think they should be aloud to, because they aren't any less people then someone who is straight so why give them less rights?

fagsss

why do they need the name marriage.
call it life partner, same rights, why is it still an issue? marriage is man woman. life partner is same sex, homosexuals(no badness associated) can't expect the same name because it is NOT the same.

Personally, I don't believe in the asymmetry in the arguments presented by the conservative side.

- If you want to protect the sanctity of marriage, ban divorce AND gay marriage

- If you want to say it's a reproduction issue, ban infertile couples, ban old couples and gay couples.

- If you say it's an issue of raising children in an un-favorable way, ban single parents and gay couples.

- Gay people will only raise gay children. I can't even believe that they use that argument anymore.

Cause straight only raise straight children. sarcasm.

hella let em get together. BUT change the name. i am a christian and i think of marriage as a lifelong partnership between a man and woman. so if you would be so kind as to change the name of what theyre doing and still have the same rights and to NOT come into our churches and try and get our pastors to link them for life, please, please let them get together.

such good points. gays are united states citizens and they should have the same rights. oh and, the thing about gay parents will only raise gay children, there is a huge family in my town with two fathers, and they probably have like 5 boy children and none of them are gay

The main reason the name marriage is brought in to the argument is for the benefits that they would receive as a married couple (tax breaks, insurance, life insurance, ect.).

live and let live. of course they should be allowed to get married.

and people who get hung up by the fact that they're using the word "marriage" are just idiotic and i don't think i should have to explain why. it's a fucking WORD- get over it!

Here's my opinion:

WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK LET THEM GET MARRIED THERE ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT IN THE WORLD!!!!

If you think that gay marriage should not exist, there is no critical thinking involved. You aren't gonna stop people from being gay, it's not a choice, it is a natural occurance; you are either born gay or straight so you shouldn't be afraid of them trying to convert you or others to being gay. There is nothing in the constitution that says All men are created equal except for ones that like other dudes. It's completely ridiculous even if you do have a heavy religious background-->which isn't allowing you to think critically about the situation and be open minded to new ideas.

I don't have a problem with it. I'm a libertarian on the issue. I can't stand how ignorant people are on the issue. I live almost in the south and the other day when my school had club day there was a gay straight alliance booth and everyone went there and fucked with the poor kids working it.

But if I could vote gay marriage probably wouldn't be what I vote on. I would vote on my wallet.

yesterday i got lost in downtown montreal and ended up on the gay street somehow. i got the fuck out of there its the sketchiest place ever. plus i had on a bunch of colorful newschoolers scarfs so i took those off

i think it should be legal. And up to the specific church if they want to do gay marriages. Frankly i think its ridiculous that its illegal

just as rediculuous that gays and y'all want it to be the same name. give em same tax breaks everything, just life partner, not marriage

butt buddies?

but in all seriousness let them get married, theres more important things then gays getting married in this world

WHY? its not hurting you at all. who says marriage is a man and a woman? the constitution? the constitution also says slaves are ok

As long as its not blown over the top with dudes wearing bridal gowns and lesbians wearing tuxedos then I don't care.

very nicely put. It astonishes me that in this day and age this is still an argument.

Its an equal right. civil liberties anyone?

giving it a different name isnt fair... thats the whole "equal but different" thing that we used to have with African Americans, and that was ruled as not legal. if you want to give them equal rights, give them everything exactly as everybody else has it.

i am for gay marriage

well I think they should definitly be allowed to get married and get all the same rights and benefits of straight couples.

This country is about freedom and in my opinion anyone in this country should be able to do whatever they want unless they are hurting someone else.

For those of you saying they should call it something different to protect the sanctity of marriage or whatever that's just stupid. There is no law that protects the word marriage. Marriage is a joke in this country anyway, the divorce rate is like more than half and you can get married in vegas for pocket change.

In a "civilized" country such as ours there is no need to create laws stating the percieved inferiority of a particular group of people. You're no better than a person based upon sexual preference, just as your skin color no longer grants you any special rights. Get over yourself.

Gay guys gross me out, but whatever, I really don't care at all about this issue, and in no way will it affect my vote.

uhhh, under the law they dont have the same rights

i agree call it a civil union, but gays should definitely be allowed to gain the same tax benefits, etc as straight married couples

not letting them marry in one state or country will just result in them leaving and return married.

and thats theres way more important things to worry about

Until recently i thought that gay marriage was bad. The thing was i really had no reason for why. I started thinking and realized that there is really no good reason why it shouldn't be allowed, so now i'm ok with it

who has the right to dictate who someone should choose to like and marry? just because theyr gay doesnt mean they arent peole and should be excluded from tradtitional things like marrage, its no different to calling blacks inferrior just because of their skin color, we are all people with equal rights

It would be pretty topsy turvy if you were the addopted son of a gay couple. Turns out that you like girls because you were just born that way. And your gay dads disowned you... kind of crazy perspective if you put the shoe on the other foot.

But yeah, same sex couples getting married in churches? Not right, churches don't do that. Legal rights should go without saying, but religion is its own thing. I suppose if you find a minister that will marry two girls or two guys or whatever than it's up to the congregation or the minister or however its done. But a church should have the right to deny you.

I say lets worry about real issues. economic policy, foreign policy, things that really matter, and things that we are really voting for. Just because a president supports or doesnt a certain issue means anything is going to change. If Obama is elected, gay marriage will not become a national legality, it will stay the same, a topic of debate. Abortion is the same.

Lets worry about the real issues people, not this nonsense. I say, if it doesnt concern you (your not gay), don't even bother discussing it.

although i do recall something in the constitution about all men being created equally. I know this doesnt apply to blacks or women, but c'mon, gay dudes are dudes too.

how is the arguement over the meaning of the word ridiculous? thats what the word means so thats how it should be used. if i say i am the president of the united states thats a completely false claim and the same thing goes for homos saying they are married because marriage = man + woman

Pronunciation:

\ˈmer-ij, ˈma-rij\

Function:

noun

Etymology:

Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry

Date:

14th century

1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.

but really who cares? it's not like if they cant get married people arn't going to continue to be gay, thus it should be no big deal. I mean it's not my cup of tea but it's not harming me.
