Young Gun Open

So yes I did run a search bar...

I've heard multiple rumors about the YGO this year...is it going to happen or is it canceled?

I dont think the Young Gun Open as you know it from Siver is happening this year. However, Salomon is putting on a competition thats similar to it...

they didnt go out of buisness, they were put up for sale by the bigger company that owned them, but nobody bought them. if it wasnt for that, they would for sure still be going strong today...

salomon was thinking about being a part of it last year along with scott but siver and line stepped up instead. now its salomon's chance

I don't ski to make other people like skiing. I don't change who I am so other people like me. I am who I am. and quite frankly I think the only reason anyone rides for salomon is because of the fat ass paycheck. Not saying that's a bad thing people need to make money. I have nothing but respect for people like CR. I'd just way rather have a company that represents me and how I feel. Also I think it's companys like salomon holding our sport back. What type of progressive things has salomon made? (aside from the teneighty but that was at a different time. I love salomon for that but I just don't think they've been going for it since.) There are tons of companys doing new things and salomon is just sticking to the standard things they know work well instead of progressing the sport as a whole.

I may be misguided on this please give me your side of the argument I would love to hear it.

ok salomon boots. That's a different story all I ride is salomon boots cause they're the only ones that fit my feet cause they're crazy fat.

Really though has salmonon introduced anything new or different to skis since the teneighty? Douglas didn't exactly have an easy time convincing them to make it either he had to prove to them that it would make them loads of money. The reason salomon can hand out fat paychecks is cause they got there first. It's kinda like MSP and PBP for ski movies. They make good movies but there's tons of people doing way better stuff than that. Think what level 1 could do with the riders and budget of MSP. It would be the best ski movie ever. Think what line or surface could do with the budget of Salomon. They'd become way bigger than salomon because they come up with new stuff that progresses the sport.

just because salomon has a lot of money they're "holding the sport back"? probably one of the dumbest things i've heard. salomon is getting better and better every year with the help of their riders, because they actually care about what their riders have to say about the products. you should probably not just go around throwing assumptions everywhere.

salomon hasn't progressed their skis for quite some time. most all companies use their riders to design their skis. companies like line, surface, k2 and more are pushing the technologly of flex patterns to make their skis just right for skiing all around.

that was a good answer, but as of recently salomon is starting to change like crazy. shit's gonna be siiick from what i hear.

yeh maybe salomon has tons of money, but i dont think there holding our sport back. yeh there not comming out with the newest freshest rider own company skis and everything but there still making quality ass skis and equipement and still doing everything they can im sure to mkae good skis, its not liek there making bad skis to try to sell to people so they can ruin the sport. there trying and that counts for something. and as far as im concerned its sick stufff.

ya, producing the first twin tip ski didnt help the ski a bit, and hate to tell you but burman would be as much sellout with winter with that budget. Also face this if line had salomon's budget im completely sure they would expand there company to other things and not really develope there freeskiing prodd nemore..

read the cream article where he interviews douglas. they listen to their atheletes a lot more than most people think, simon wanted a wood core ski and he got it. from what i hear its amazing

they have made the same progression that any other ski company has pretty much. they made a twin tip.. then there was freestyle brought to the big mountain scene, so in turn they made the pocket rocket. tell me one company that hasnt done that.

actually siver did sell. check their website tomorrow its going to be annoucned who bought them the rumor is oakley. get your facts straight boss.

1. Line prophet 130s, nobody has made skis even clsoe to this big and now everybody is begining to make their skis bigger although they still aren't that big, they simply don't want to push it too fast.

2. Line elizabeth / sirfrancis bacon, crazy soft fat ski for butters in powder. Not to mention the eliptical sidecut and the versatility of especially the elizabeths

3. Dynastar troublemakers, reinforced edges for rail durability

4. elan, grind plates

5. Armada, pipe cleaners, crazy fast, way faster than anything salomon makes

6. Prajekt, evil twin elongated tips, hybrid camber (I know they aren't still around but at least they tried and weren't afraid)

7. Line invaders, butter zones, perfectly symetrical

8. 9th ward, Mikael pro model, bamboo for extra pop

9. Line - carbon fiber stringers (if we're gonna talk about stuff from back in the day) oh ya full twin tip not the gay half twin tip

10. Rossignol Wheight reduction system

I know there's more but I'll stop at that. so that's 14 new things other people have come up with. there's more than that but I think I've said enough

seriously man, salomon is the company thats putting the most cash in freeskiing right now along with being the company paying their riders the best, they should be loved and not be hated

not to sound like a prick for not know what i'm talking about but how does spaceframe technology help the ski? and why is it that the ski companies that don't use spaceframe technology still make completely skiable products.

Ski companies are called companies because they make MONEY. Line, 9th ward, rossi, salomon all of them are in the business to make MONEY.

If you think they are ONLY in it for anything other than that, well sir you are a retard.

And dont say WELL LOLZ OMG THEY ONLY BELIEVE IN PROGRESSION !!!1. If you do youre a dick becaue if they only wanted to progress the sport they would make zero dollars and go out of business.

I know companies want to make money. If they didn't want money they'd sell their skis for what it costs to make them. but they don't. That's the only way they can spread their product and not live in a trash can. However it is possible to wnat more than one thing. I don't really hate salomon I just don't like them and the reason I said I wouldn't really want a sponsorship from them is because I wouldn't want to represent something that doesn't represent me. When I go to the salomon site I don't go "OMFG Ilove salomon! they're so sick, I want those skis!" I go "meh" I get that more when I go to the line or surface site.

haha ya he did and he was on liberty before that. I like on the liberty site it says he couldn't have done it without being on their skis.

By the way big ups on your icon

how about this one Salomon invented the twin tip? i think that is pretty progressive on their part.

then thats a personal choice....don't go off saying they didn't do anything for the sport, or that they don't push it. Look at the dumont..no offence, but im stoked for these skis. Woodcore core, going back to the old salomon designs....its fucking sick as hell. Give them the respect they deserve. When you get sponsored, your just happy to get picked up because they let you do your job. Thats what skiing is to pro skiers, its how they live. At the end of the line, is being core gonna, and sick ski designs gonna get you fed....no. They give you a chance to show you what you got, and if your lucky like mike douglas, they give you a full on real job designing skis. No offence, but nobody is going to be a pro newschool skier at 50.

3. dynastar was not the first. k2 started using thicker edges before anyone else, and rossi had a ski with a grind insert

4. see #3

5. salomon Candide/CR lab

9. again, k2 used carbon stringers before line did, back in the orginal enemy days

I dislike Salomon not because they have a lot of money, because that helps the sport, but because I hate their skis.

everyone hatin on salomon and saying they dont change anything obviously havent seen this years lineup
