You "professional photographers" should probably just sell all your gear

Yeah I heard about that.. and thats a terrible quote.

Seriously, what were they thinking when that person said that?

"There are different skill levels"

Fuck that. In this day and age, there are pros, decent photographers, and teenage girls on facebook. Different skill levels, sure. But professionalism does still exist.

Does this mean flickr will stop compressing photos to poop, or is it the same crappy quality with a GUI upgrade?

Neat. I hope the acquisition doesn't affect Tumblr image quality. I enjoy the format and ease of Tumblr and I'd hate to have to manually use css every time I want to add a photo to my site...

I mean you can basically buy your way into the film industry these days. If you can afford a baller camera, you are set.

This is not me but it sucks for people who are seriously considering making a living off this, have some raw talent, and want to put it to use but in this day and age its getting more difficult to do so.

Agreed. There is a lot of good talent out there, but it is often overlooked due to the fact that you can often times buy your way in.

It's not the the fact that you buy a camera, it's the fact that it takes hard work, consistent determination to make a living in film or photo. And a decent business mind.

Im about 20 000$ in, I can tell you first hand that you dont just buy your way in. You still have to work for the right people and socialise and market yourself. If anything its even harder than it used to be because of all the competition.

I agree 100% on the networking/socializing that has to occur for you to get into the industry. But someone like you could have a lot of talent and be good at filming, but then someone else could come in and buy a RED or a Phantom or some expensive camera and overshadow you even if they arnt as good as you at filming.

I see a bit of that happening but mostly what I see is people with less talent getting far because they are great at networking and making people think that they are the shit.

I swear if you want to be a pro photographer or videographer you are better off learning about networking and sales than your actual trade.

Anyone know if they're doing away with the bullshit monthly mb limit too?

Kinda stoked bout this terabyte doe.

I hate the new layout design, and now this too? 1TB for free is cool for people who don't want to pay, but I really liked how they had it set up with the non Pro and Pro account options. If all my pictures weren't already on Flickr, I'd probably switch to another site. Not digging this at all.

Either way, you're "buying" your way in. Sometimes its with money, other times it's by blowing smoke up people's bums (lovingly known as "networking). And there's always a level of constant hard work and self-promotion.

Not that it's an inherently bad; just know that you cannot be both genuine and successful in the film industry.

The only reason I say this is from personal experience. Networking is huge in business, but if you don't know how to operate a business, your are going to fail (if you work for yourself) in most cases. I've seen numerous people in and out of business in the two years I've been afloat. It happens a lot in the wedding industry. Networking is HUGE for me, but if I didn't know how to make money (business), I would fail quicker than anything.

No such thing as professional sports these days... I mean, with the millions upon millions of youths out there playing sports around the world...
