OUCH!!!!

What's the difference between a million, a billion, a trillion?

A million seconds is 12 days.

A billion seconds is 31 years.

A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.

A million minutes ago was – 1 year, 329 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes ago.

A billion minutes ago was just after the time of Christ.

/web/forums/replythread/images/storyend_dingbat.gif

A million hours ago was in 1885.

A billion hours ago man had not yet walked on earth.

/web/forums/replythread/images/storyend_dingbat.gif

A million dollars ago was five (5) seconds ago at the U.S. Treasury.

A billion dollars ago was late yesterday afternoon at the U.S. Treasury.

[Note: this was pre-Obama]

A trillion dollars is so large a number that only politicians

can use the term in conversation... probably because they

seldom think about what they are really saying. I've read that

mathematicians do not even use the term trillion!

Here is some perspective on TRILLION:

Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000.

The country has not existed for a trillion seconds.

Western civilization has not been around a trillion seconds.

One trillion seconds ago – 31,688 years – Neanderthals stalked the plains of Europe.

haha i read a book about a hundred, thousand, million, billion and trillion

billion is so much...shiiit

if you're a u.s. citizen you own a very small portion of it.

the younger generation is going to be paying for the adults fuck ups.

Seriously eh.I'm not American, but damn its getting fucking crazy. With all due respect, I just can't wait until the generation running the world right now dies off. No joke.

eh it's only about 40K per person

hell we've spent more half that per Israeli

fuckin' income taxes, we just keep paying like a bunch of dumbass slaves fresh off the boat. If people weren't such bitches refused to give the government their labor for free (well the fruits of it, you don't have to live in the slave house anymore, but don't pay and you'll still end up shackled) we would have hit rock bottom a long time ago, and maybe just maybe politicians wouldn't be writing checks from a no limit account.

yeah I'm a US citizen. but Nope, I don't owe any of that, and I wont be paying for my parent's generations fuck ups. Instead I'm going to start a revolution and take down the government until our country is in a state of complete anarchy. it's gonna be fun, you guys should come.

And to think, under Clinton it would have been paid off this year...

(start political shit storm)

Section. 7.

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

Section. 8.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

thanks Newt!

im suprised no one has pointed out yet that about 1 trillion of that is all owed to one country. CHINA!

meh, I don't think we will ever pay it back, jokes on them.

Or if we do pay it back we will get the better half of the deal. Overall I am not too worried about it. My patriotism is pretty low, I would have no problem going to Europe or Mexico. I would kill myself before I went to Canada though.

Ahh, I misread your original statement, I thought you were saying that Bush ran a higher deficit than Obama. My bad.

im playing devil's advocate here.......Obama was forced spend hundreds of billions of dollars when he came into office. partly Bush's fault (war's cost money) and partly Clinton's fault (socioeconomics). What is Obama's fault is the complete mismanagement of the money and the way/who it was distributed to.

Even if you take away the stimulus, the deficit is still at 1 trillion dollars, and that also account for the money out of the stimulus that has been paid back. Keep in mind these numbers come from the Congressional Budgeting Office (Nanci Pelosi) and the White House. We have never had spending anywhere near this.

FACT: Relative to other countries, our debt is not extraordinary whatsoever. What you need to do is look at debt relative to GDP. This essentially measures ability to repay the debt.

He never once during the campaign ever said anything about removing troops from Afghanistan. He always said he was going to increase troop levels. If you didn't pick this up you were not paying attention.

The stimulus is still filtering into the economy. Americas infrastructure is terrible. It is going to be great to have the money to repair our transportation system and also expand with high speed rail and other projects. I would rather spend 1 trillion dollars in the US than 1 million in the middle east.

There are already several projects in the Denver area that now have the funds to be completed. Rebuilding union station, the light rail, etc.

And the whole war on terror idea is bull shit. As we now know it is not a war at all. What it should be is a coordinated police effort against a well organized criminal conspiracy.

As far as presidents go Obama has done almost everything he said he was going to do.

You know neither Communism nor Socialism. China knows real Communism. The former Soviet Bloc countries know real Socialism. This is nothing near the scale and scope of either of those two examples.

That said, it's pretty obvious that both sides are at fault here. Perhaps if we had some real bipartisanship in Washington, D.C., something would actually be getting done about this. Skew it however you want, but the Democrats have refused to reach out to Republicans and the Republicans have refused to reach out to Democrats. That's all there is to it. Work together, make compromises, and the crisis could easily be solved.

i feel like its going up unrealisticly fast and too constant which leads me to think where the fuck is this number coming from. and how is all the debt being summed. probably not very acurate

"There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But

it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We

used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them

economical numbers." - Richard P. Feynman
