Hey guys coming to NS for some business advice/research. So I know you guys like hotsauce….I’m currently in the process of starting a hot sauce business, many things are under contract so I can’t talk about specifics but I’ll do what I can. No were not 14 and starting a NS tall tee company (no hate to the people here who do) we all have degrees in business/finance, marketing, (have been in the profession field) and we’re currently in the process of working with a lawyer working out the contract, logistics and licensing of the name/brand. We're hoping it all goes well, but you never know, we could be stoped dead in out tracts if things dont go well, then who know.

That being said, one thing we can’t seem to agree on is the bottle to use…A HUGE DECISCION. Which bottle would draw your eye, or if you have a better recomendation we'd like to hear it. The choices we've narrowed it down to so far.

thanks guys, +k like usual

Cork seems like it'd be a more messy route, the grolsch top is pretty sick though, definitely an awesome lid.

Really like bottle number one. Very classy and clean. Sounds like you guys know what your doing so im sure you all will be successful!

Tossup between 1 and 2 for me, but I would have to go with number 2. I like the look of the cork, definitely think it would stand out more.

I really like the look of the cork and think that it would certainly stand out more but I think logistically the cap on number one is better.

Cork may not work well for shipping and sitting on the shelf as it could get knocked off, you'd have to put plastic over it which would kinda ruin the classy look of the cork. Number 1 is tight.

Theres a reason that none of the major hot sauce brands use bottles such as these. Think about that a bit.

Secondly, #1 is cool, but can you save more money in regards to production by using a more simple bottle? Also, People would want something more secure they can throw in a bag, such as a screw top, so that it wont pop off. Maybe get a custom screw on top?

the first one is definitely unique and pretty sick. the second one I definitely wouldn't use, looks more like a decanter than a hot sauce container. the third seems pretty classic of a hot sauce bottle so it might be more safe.

I'd go with the first one if you have a sick label, plus that design would keep it super fresh.

either 1 or 2. my first instinct though just by looking at them quickly and not thinking about anything in particular was bottle #2.

the top one is the best in my opinion, i like the shape of the bottle, its sleek and looks like it has good proportions to create bottles of different sizes while maintaining the same shape. The closing mechanism on the top seems like it will be better than using a cork to seal the other two bottles.

choice 2 looks like it might be cumbersome to use if its too big (like more than 2x2" as a rough estimate) which would obviously limit the quantity within the bottle (you wouldnt be able to house a quantity of hot sauce similar to something like Franks Red Hot sauce, if you use a bottle that is short and fat like that).

I like choice 3, but might be easy to tip over or something like that if you make bigger bottles of it but for something small like tabasco sauce i think it will look great, the cork on top is kind of a deal breaker though.

Using the cork as a top can and probably will cause a lot of spills if not secured properly after opening (which eliminates all other options). I've always hated corks, they can be a pain in the ass if they dry out and will cause a mess. I think something that's a little more "fool proof" is required. Thus, choice 1.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Completely agree with you man, in terms of saving money, all these are very VERY expensive ha, but we have a target price in the low 5$ area. Seems a little pricey i know but its gonna be all natural 100% hopefully organic if we could swing it price wise. A simpler bottle would be amazing for over head reasons, go to the hs isle in your super market, not many stand out at all...exectly why were willing to invest a little capital into our apperance. very good reasoning about the tops security we'd have to work on that. Thanks for the feedback man!

^Who every asked for their bottle-It will come once we get everything up and running, could be a few months like i stated in the thread, we're finalizing market research right now and dealing with the legal stuff.

BUT as long as NS exists and this this thread is in its archives (not deleated for any reason), and we dont get screwed with some legalities...we'll be sure so send everyone their vial ASAP

Definitely a contest between number 1 and number 1. Personal preference leads to me to say that you should put the cork onto bottle number 1.

I always find those caps on number 1 very tacky and over-complicated. The cork is very simple, but still very classy and functional.

The cork is also probably less expensive if you want to look at it in financial terms.

I'd go with number 1 because it has an easily sealable cap. I trust cork for my liquor and for wine and such like that but a corked hotsauce just doesn't seem right to my perceptions. And you would have an added station on your line to seal the cork properly for shipping, (since I'm assuming you would want it sealed in shrink wrap or some sort of protective covering to show that it hasn't been tampered with. If you use choice on, you can easily just add a cork strap on top to show it hasn't been fooled with. just my thoughts.

definitely option 1. it is unique as far as my hot sauce bottles experience goes, and would set it aside from the other regular screw-on cap bottles. good luck with the business!

Number one for sure. The wood corks would be a turn off for me. Too messy and it seems as if they would absorb some of the sauce.

#1 is a standout for sure.

You're gonna fix in one of those plastic droppers right? Do you know if you can get one in there?

It all depends of what field of consumers you are targeting. You must know about that.

Have you think about doing survey with bottle samples in some of your local places in your town and ask different kinds of people of different ages to really see what they would like? You are asking here to people from pretty much the same age (15-20) and they all have the same thing in common, they like skiing.

Number 1 is pretty cool though. Good luck with all that !

Number one I think is the best on the whole, but I like how the second one has some curves and is a little more abstract, seems more befitting to hot sauce. If you could do that one with the same style cap as the first one then that would be my vote, if not then #1.

i love hot sauce! i would go with bottle number 1. like ElGato said, it'd be pretty prime if you guys had like a cap or something in the bottle that restricted how much of the hot sauce actually came out at once.

i'd say #1. it's distinct enough to stand out from the other bottles on the shelf, and it just looks aesthetically pleasing. the messiness could be a bit annoying but, i still think it's the best choice. i look forward to seeing what your product tastes like!

really like the look of bottle number one its unique and stands out from other hot sauce bottles. i think if you can get a sick label that goes well with the bottle then you will attract a lot of people to it. I also really like the top on one they are easy to use the only problem is that with an opening that large the sauce might pour out way to quick and ruin the food by flooding it with hot sauce. Just something to think about.

Bottle number one for sure. The only thing is that it looks like it would cost a lot more than a simple screw top. I guess that's a trade off in order for it to stand out. Definite no go with the cork though, they always end up being a pain.

I like number 1 because of the "grolsch" style cap. Don't think a cork would work very well with hot sauce. I think you need to look at a way to limit the amount of sauce that will come out of the bottle at at a time though. With those big, open tops, unless you're designing a much thicker sauce, the sauce will come out way too fast. I feel like this is why most companies use a screw on top - so they can put one of those plastic caps on the bottle that limit the sauce coming out. If you could find a way to make a sick custom screw on top that would be another option I would look into.

bottle 1 but more importantly, please make a papaya scotch bonnet pepper hot sauce; I just made it and it was delicious, shit will sell (oh and throw a carrot in there too sounds crazy but it works)

I'm not feelin the corks, not secure enough. and the opening of the bottle will allow the hot sauce to come out too fast. I'm not really in to any of them, but #1 out of those 3

well you obviously learned to think everything through, right?

you said the sauce will be 100% organic. so maybe a cork (despite its problems) would be a solid choice because it would fit that image better.

number 1 looks good but it says "hipster beer" more than what you might want.

Number One for sure!

And I'm looking forward to the day when you will bump this thread and show us your finished product and we will all go to the store and buy awesome hot sauce.
