You Know Your Riding in the Midwest when...

This is the only good thing about the midwest....stupid chairlift rides taking 10minutes when I am trying to lap the park at Big Sky..

when your backyard setup is as good as the setup at your park4 inches of snow is a epic pow dayyou get three turns in and are at the bottomyou get really good at railsyou know every non gapper in the parka 25 foot jump is bigyou want to take a trip out eastyour whole hill is the size of the park out westyou get up the non high speed chairlift in 2 minutes

When you can access the entire "mountain" from one chairlift.

When getting more than 50 inches in a season is considered epic.

When you can get from the "summit" to the base in 30 seconds.

When 500 vertical feet is considered a big ski area

ive never really understood this phenomenon. haha

i mean its indisputable fact, that skiing here pretty much sucks balls. unless skiing is either A rails, or B gates.

i suppose there is always Chicken at Welch. so thats fun, but its 10-15 seconds of fun. hahaha

Your car is parked at the top of he hill.

There is one high speed quad in the state.

You know every employee at your ski area by name.

You can ski after school.

There isn't a single rail on the hill until mid December (fuck you Spirit), and jumps won't be around til after Christmas.

You ski trees no matter how icy it is because the runs are so boring.

A one weekend snowmobiling event generates more revenue than the entire ski season, and gets priority over the runs for snowmaking at the beginning of the season.

There is a freeway above where you ski.

oh no doubt. i have fun too. its not a matter of having fun i have fun everyday on the hill.

but for me 3,000vertft of pow > 300verft of rails/jumps. but i understand if other people have different priorities when it comes to skiing.

brandywine had it last year... soo funny cuz we would get the weirdest looks from people in camo jackets and jeans... gotta love ohio though.

I'm a rail rat so I enjoy making laps of the same line doing different tricks, but to add to the thread

When your "cat team" has no idea how to set up a nice park and cant figure out how to set up or keep a nice jump. When your "cat team" is all snowboarders and only set up things thats are really nice for snowboarders and not for skiers.

when the terrain park is used as a bunny hill....

when you have 10 times more rails than jumps...

when a rainy day is acceptable because atleast its not ice...

when most skiing takes place when resorts out west are already closed for the night...

when over half the people there have the same exact rental skis...

when you have 1 jump and you have 12 rails/jibs.

and when you can slay harder at those rails/jibs than people out west

that would depend on the number of pow days i get a year ;)

i get what youre saying but its not like you cant ski pow with friends.

exactly. its not like by moving out west you no longer have friends. well allen might if he was here, hes asian.

when u get treated like a black person from the early 1900s from all the boarders...... at least thats what its like where i ride.

^ they 50 50 everything while im doing some pretty tough shit and like 5 out of 250 give me props and respect. its usually the actual good boarders that respect that i ski tho so thats cool

You're actually lucky, its a huge even for us to get up to IndianHead. You know you're from the midwest when you have to drive 2 hours to get to a hill.

yeah. for a while the boarders were kinda dicks. but the past couple of years it's almost like we become family for the season.
which reminds me
when you here of places opening out west and think "sweet I have another 2 months before the local hill opens."
