You know what I love about skiing?

Is that professional skiers and normal everyday skiers ski to ski. Its not about the money. With today's NBA and NFL lockouts it has really made me appreciate skiing more now than ever. Unlike owners and players of mainstream sports, skiers wake up everyday stoked on life and ski with their friends and not worry about getting paid 10 million vs 5 million. Its about getting out and enjoying fresh pow, huge jumps and gnarly rails. Not to say pros don't need to get paid, but its nice to have a sport where its about the sport and not they pay.

you're the best.

bit of a generalization, but i'll agree that a higher percentage of skiers do it just for pure fun than in more organized professional sports. however if it paid as much i bet skiers would be even MORE serious.

fuck you.

if people like spinning in the air then that is their thing, what happened to live and let live. just because they like skiing too doesn't mean that they see it the same way, they perpetuate the sport just as much as the granola crowd.

also, part of skiing IS aerials, that part of skiing has been here forever.

look at why people ski big mountain, a lot of the time its because of the incredible rush that they get at the bottom of the huge line they just ripped down...why does park skiing have to be any different? its not about what you look like or how much style you have, but the enjoyment you get from pushing yourself and having fun by exposing your body to new feelings.

I hope this doesn't begin to happen in further generations because of the Olympics or anything, that would suck to have it be like the NFL, with the athletes crying about the few millions they're not getting paid

hell, i could probably count on one hand the number of freeskiers who make more than 1 million in a year. i don't know if i would even make it past my thumb.

it seems most professional atheletes eventually are all about the money but it is very clear that most if not all skiing pros simple want to make a living skiing and doing what they love not doing it for the money they might make

thats what i love about it too ! everyone who skis totally enjoys it for what it is and the sport it has become to be !

Such a legit feel good thread. The world is run by money and its so refreshing to see people at the top of a sport not in the rat race chasing money but doing what they do because they love it. It reminded me of what eric pollard said in reasons "i know i will be skiing long after all my sponsors have left me,long after im done skiin for movies or magazines, ill still be up there doing the same thing, just riding" which is awesome because it shows that he is doing for his love of the sport.

True... But that's only because Skiing isn't as glorified and popular as the NBA or NFL, and they're not offered as much money as athletes in those sports are...

But I agree, and I hope it skiing never turns into that..

yes, but a ski racer will make much more and have many more opportunities than a park skier and we still ski park or pow instead because we want to, because it feels good, and because we're free when we do.

one problem that seems kind of prevalent is that pro/ams have a need to drop their IQ (presuming prior intelligence) else fear ostracization from the pro skiing community and dick sucks on NS.
