I'm in advertising working on my portfolio and I was thinking of including this ad for Full Tilt in it. I'd just like your honest and raw feedback of it so I can make it better. +K.

Thanks a lot, hope you're having good seasons.

It's a nice idea but the resolution on the basketball picture is trash and your photoshopping is sloppy. Put a bit more work into it.

cool idea, but i'd work on the boots he is wearing, photoshop work isnt great on it and makes the ad less convincing

I think it is a good start, maybe use drop kicks since they already have a basketball theme. But I can see how all the colors correlate. I think it is cool.

Concept 7/10

Quality 3/10

When making your portfolio, make sure its quality over quantity. You don't want to have a lot of ideas that are some decent and some okay that might turn heads but then they realize your ad isn't very aesthetic. But it would be best to have just a couple of ads that are just killer home run ads. This could be one if more editing could of gone into it to make the ad more aesthetic.

Now you've said it my keeps looking at it ! If it's a portofolio i believe it is for a school or s'thing ? Teachers wont miss this detail !

It's a good idea but FullTilt has already done a basketball related ad..

My thoughts exactly, and you need a higher resolution picture with a better photoshop job. But clever idea.

How I imagine you:

As for the ad, meh. They're not selling Jordans.

What you should do is think new media. Full tilt ad in print? There would need to be accompanying web creative. 728x90, 300x600 and 160x600. Use NS as a template... maybe even throw in a site skin or something.

haha I should clarify that this is just a mock up to show my concept. I wanted to run the idea by you guys and if you responded positively was going to continue on with it. From what I hear a lot of you think it's 'good' (apart from the terrible photoshop job on the ski boots), and apparently a similar concept has been used (which sucks). But now I can just scrap it.

I personally thought it was pretty funny and liked the fact that it wasn't showing skiing in it like almost every ad I see. But what I like doesn't matter, it's what you guys like. Thanks for your feedback, you guys just saved me a lot of time. +K to everyone, even the assholes.

so you're an advertising student that steals other peoples images, and then hashes them together and this somehow reflects positively on your skills as a marketer?

i swear im not trying to be an asshole

I have to agree, the idea isn't overly "original", any boot company could do the exact same ad doing the exact same thing, it doesn't really show off the features of the boot. Sure it is light and can resemble that of a shoe- with the tongue. But FT likes to talk about their superior 3 piece system. I mean if you look at the other ad, it's tom wearing his boots, why? So there isn't the disconnect from skiing. Sure it's pretty out there and somewhat eye catching but people are just going to think that FT makes a superior jumping boot than say nike- especially if the pros wear them.

I just feel like there was no direction and you just went with the first idea that popped in your mind, you should probably go work on/ re-read your brief a little bit more.

Also not being an asshole, just trying to give some feedback/ tips without sounding overly mean.

Your feedback is much appreciated. I did however want the disconnect from skiing, solely due to the fact that almost every skiing ad is just a skier skiing or the product being shown, people remember when they see something out of the ordinary. You've presented a good point of only highlighting one feature of the boot, I think that it would be strongest if it were across a 3 or 4 ad campaign highlighting other features as well.

I'd say this is one interpretation to take into account, but the fact of the matter is, people are flooded with information these days and will not and do not stick to one piece of visual media for very long. I know FT would like to talk about their superior 3 piece system, but lets get the audiences attention, they'll want to know more, and then we can refer them to where they can go. I think the biggest problem with ads/web content is we try to throw too much information in it, the reader get's confused/skims it and moves on. We talk about that everyday in class (im a Digital Media/Visual Communication Major).

Back to your ad, awesome! Great alignment, and you build some really strong contrast by desaturating the background and providing us with the red/white showing us exactly what to focus on.

To all those who said bad photoshopping, if that is all you have to say, I would refrain from adding those comments because it is a very vague criticism and not constructive at all.

The only thing I would say is try to shift the edge when you select the boot to eliminate that white outline, and I would try to play with the blending modes on the full tilt logo in the top, Its perfect there but it may be a little too pronounced (maybe reduce opacity too). The picture is blurry (maybe you can find a better res one? and make sure you appropriate the source of the photo so you don't get smacked for plagerism). Also, I would try to get the boots on the player to stick out a little bit more, I think that should be the focal point and then the audience's eye will go to the info.

All that being said, I think you've got something really great going on. I like the "Super light. Super Flight," it's catchy, even a baby could read it, and the banner behind it is really great with the white border. I think the typography is successful too, trendy.

I hope I see this in a magazine one day. Keep it up!!

yes, that is what most skiing ads do. It's demonstration. If you see a pro skier riding so and so product people think that the product will make them better or the best if they use it. Skiing in terms of products is very performance based, so having demonstration ads of any ski going upside down with an awesome grab is going to be "that ski" that will let people do that. I must admit that with every company doing this it is hard to break away from the clutter.

But back onto topic it really depends on what needs to be done with FT, not knowing why the hot dogger needs to be advertised is hindering my judgement for the ad other than people not knowing that it is a light boot and the lighter it is means the higher you can jump but that doesn't seem like much of a single minded thought.

But yeah, I would stray away from Michael Jordan, even if he is the king of jump and the colors match, he is already too associated with Nike and will just be seen as a rip off than anything else.

loose the boots PS'd in the Jordan photo. Just him slammin. There is more than enough association there with the colors and high top look. Make sure the photo is higher res, the same as your text ideally.

I like it though, cool look to it.

Also, most important thing to remember, SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE! its way harder to make something simpler than more complex, distill that shit down to it's essence.

FULL TILT = JORDAN

good work! post the updated one when your done
