You decide.

I don't really have an idea of what to think of this so you guys can decide on this one. First I'll give you some background on my English teacher. She is in her 60's. I have seen her wearing a cross on her necklace in the classroom. Earlier this year, she gave me a 30% on an essay, and many people, myself included, thought the grade was based on the fact that the essay conflicted with her personal beliefs rather than it was a horrible essay (My dad emailed her about five times about the grade but never got a legit response). Today my friend and I were walking to our seats at the beginning of class. My friend drops his binder on the ground and says "Oh my god" pretty quietly. He isn't religious. The rest of the convo goes like this:
Teacher: "What did you say?"Him: "I said Oh my god"T: "That language is unacceptable"H: "How so"T: It is disrespectful to god and it offends meH: What if I'm not religiousT: I don't careMe: What if he was referring to his godNext he said something about religion in schoolThen my teacher tells him to go to the principal's office. He leaves. The class goes on.Were the actions of my teacher appropriate for a public school? Saying oh my god contains no profanity, so does she have the right to kick him out based on her religious beliefs?

haha what a trick ass bitch. no it was not justified. separation of church and state is a law. she had no right to punish him for having his own beliefs.

No, saying "oh my God" or whatever is not necessarily profanity, and one is completely within their rights to say it. But your teacher is, after all, your teacher - she has authority over you - and therefore she is completely within her rights to be offended or punish you or whatever.

It's not acceptable but there's nothing you can do about it. Like it or not, the morons who believe in fairy tales are still the majority. Plus teachers are so unionized they're nearly impossible to fire so they can do whatever the fuck they want.

I don't think separation of church and state really applies, but yes, I agree that that's messed up. I go to a Catholic school and I've never had anything like that happen to me or any of my friends. haha kinda ironic.

Absolute bullshit. Go to your principal and talk to him/her about it and if they aren't receptive of your complaint, write an email to the district. That is unacceptable and present your paper as well as other other students paper if they are willing to donate them as evidence against the teacher. If still, you cannot get anything done, take it to the media, they eat that shit up.

she does have authority over you but kicking you out because you took the lords name in vain goes beyond herpowers. like the first poster said, it's the separation of church and state.

hahaha i went to catholic schools from kindergarten thru the end of high school and we never even got a second glance for saying oh my god.. this teacher sounds pretty sketch, settle it with a battle royale

It is your teacher's classroom, her rules. The school doesn't micromanage everything, and I seriously doubt the principal will do anything, he might slap her hand and tell you to get over it. My boyfriend goes to a private christain school where people say things much worse than that and nothing ever happens.

I talked to him (my friend) today and he said all the principal said was that it was no big deal. My friend has had a conflict with this teacher since day one. It's not really a big deal. Only 25 days of school left. I just wanted to see what you guys and girls thought.

i hate teachers like that, i have one and i think its crazy, they shouldnt be able to boss us around like that.

oh my jah.. i hate when people make a big deal about saying things like that. i can see where they're coming from, but really.. why do they feel they need to make a spectacle out of it? fuckin jahovas witness.

Step 1: Say something to a friend about there being no jesus within her earshot.

Step 2: ???

Step3: Profit

Then post results on here. Do it do it do it.

you said something that offended her, so she told you. Rather than saying, sorry my bad, you mouthed off to her so she sent you to the principals office. I don't really see why that's bullshit.

Antidisestablishmentarianism..

anyhow that chic is so whack. you should go in calmly and sit down with your principal, im sure if you did and approached him in a mature manner about this subject he would listen to you and have a word with the teacher. she has no grounds for punishment and can not use her personal belief's as a legitimate excuse for anything of this nature.

this could possibly be grounds for termination and if your principal doesn't listen. and doesnt approach her about this, take the story to the media, im sure a local news paper would be interested in the story.

Why do you have such problems with teachers? Well, you and your friends it seems. I mean, you seem like the kind of kid who blames shitty grades on the teacher instead of themselves.
