So, i know there are quite a few of you who are 110 percent for gun control and think america's violence rate is out of control and that we have some sort of major gun problem, especially compared to european countries, etc etc.

i just ask that you watch this 6 minute video, it isnt opinions, or hyped, or edited, or "in your face". its just the facts and statistics. so if you could, please tell me how you can still think what you do after seeing the video.

 
There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

There is simply so much information in the Uniform Crime Stats compiled by the FBI that you can cherry pick throughout and support your viewpoint.

There's been a lot of controversy regarding the use of COMPSTAT for "community-based policing" where officers would under-report crimes are report crimes inaccurately to meet their monthly, yearly, or quarterly targets. This also likely impacts the UCS numbers from the FBI.

Obviously good data is important and can be used to help guide policy decisions, but good data is hard to come by.
 
So USA has less violent crime, but more gun crime and a higher murder rate.

US gun laws seem to be working pretty well then.
 
That guy is sincere and hits the nail on the head. The people blaming AR15s for America's woes are completely missing the point.

This guy is comparing two completely different statistics with no hint that they are not the same. He is just as bad as the media spreading false information warped to support his viewpoint.

Therefore I can't take seriously anything he says.
 
Each country defines violent crime differently.

I don't think he has

bothered to look at the detail which is odd because this is apparently

the point he is making.

Maybe he is being ironic...would be befitting to his glasses and darkened room.

The conclusion is

that violent crime reporting is misleading as a headline.
 


Look at the links he provides, then look up what constitutes the offenses per USA and per UK

UK = All forms of Assault, Harassment, Causing Public Fear, Rape etc

USA = Assault the can cause Grievous Harm or Attacking with Weapon among a few..

They are incomparable

 
So the UK has a violent crime rate 3.5 times higher than that of the US, but a murder rate 1/3 of that of the US. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't that meant your 10.5 times more likely to die as a result of violent crime in the US than in the UK? Wonder why...

Unless murders aren't included in violent crime, not quite sure how it works. Obviously he raises a good point about cherry picking though, although I doubt that's news to anyone here.
