So for all of you who think freeride skiing is turning into aerials you are all absolutely wrong. First off, in aerials you are judged on a given score for the trick you perform multiplied by how well you perform the trick. Us in freeride competitons are far from that. Also in aerials there are pretty much 2 tricks, a back lay and back full. Skiers just do different variations by adding flips and twists. Freeride is completely different where there are tons of different tricks and they can all be varied by different grabs that add different style to it.

So basically anybody who is sane on this site will see that freeride is in no way near aerials. And in no way is freeride any better than aerials. They are just different sports with different mindsets

This thread really shows how big of an age gap there can be on this website sometimes. Freestyle has somewhat morphed into a term that includes park skiing, but traditionally:

Freestyle = Aerials, Moguls, Acro

Freeride = Backcountry, Park, Anything else.

Basically, Freestyle and Aerials aren't two different things. Freestyle is an term that includes Aerials. Pretty hard to argue with.
 
Spot on. "Freestyle" is definitely not a new term - stems back from the hot dogging days where people would compete in/ski all three - aerials, moguls, and acro.

if the issue come up because some pros are doing triples and bigger spins, then chill the fuck out because thats about .01% of the people who ski, nothing to worry about

ballet skiing is freestyle you basically shit the bed here cuz this is why people think skiing is gay....(even tho his cork 9 is pretty sick)
