Yoga

Does anyone here do yoga? I heard that it really helps your flexibility and I know that some pros do it. I was thinking about it b/c i am really inflexibable and was wondering what your guys input is?

hahahahahah, im gonna get some shit for this but yes. everytime i ski, i have to do yoga, it helps soooo much in getting flexible and getting centered. i am soo much better at skiing now because of it. I am no hippy though.

i bet it would really help with your flexibility. but its more of a like adult mom thing i guess... it would be the same kinda thing as football players doing ballet... just weird... lol

I know it can greatly benifit me but, i never get around to doing stuff like this.... haha it'd be funny if this thread snowballed into like a ns yoga cult.

I did yoga last year. Not only did I become the most flexible and relaxed I have ever been, but I also managed to stay in touch with a couple of the girls from the class. I took it at my university, which is key.

Yoga does great for skiing. It helps to strengthen your core muscles where a lot of you balance comes from. Plus the added benifit of improving your flexibility. Definately will help your skiing.

One of my moms friends is a yoga instructor so i just have her some me a few things every once in a while to help me with different things. There are def. some advantages to doing it.

Dude, we do need a ns yoga cult.

I stretch for 1hr+ every day because my legs are kinda wack. But it fixes them. I think yoga would be more productive though, maybe. I wana check it out.

I used to be able to reach only to my kneecaps, and no further. I did yoga for a summer and now I can grab tru nose and such. ITs soooooo dope.

i started doing yoga over the summer to combat the stiffness brought on by rock climbing. its pretty much the only way i can warm up to ski now. the balance and escpecially the awarness of absract core muscles like the spinal collumn have helped alot in spinning both ways and never feeling like you have an "off day"

i used to think i just had bad days but now i realize it was just when my chakras(inner energy flows) wernt alligned. now i go all out always and i credit yoga. i feel like skiing is rich in prana(life energy) and becoming aware of that vital energy flow is the best way to connect yourself to the mountain or feature your riding on.

pollard does yoga........

it realy helps you know your body.. its hard to learn but the benifits are soo good. yeah... besided have you seen the fuckin hot chicks that do yoga... OMG i bet they could squeeze down like BLAM!!!!!!

Yoga can really loosen you up if you keep a good pace through the workout. You can even use yoga to sweat out a previous nights "good times". Most stretching routines are based on old yoga poses anyway.

yeah my parents go to yoga and always say i should go... i know all the benefits and stuff, but it just seems a little weird... i need to stretch tho, i cant touch my toes and have a hard time with my truck drivers.

^yeah i dont go to class, my mom just shows me whats she learns, and i pick what i want to do. class would be a little weird

i am a huge proponent of yoga, especially core power yoga. just doing the stretches help, but you should really try to spend an hour in a class 3-4 times a week. www.corepoweryoga.com has progressive, faster paced, heated yoga instruction that is a great workout and significantly improves balance and flexibility. they have locations in denver, boulder, and now other cities across the us. I have gotten away from it over the past 6 months because of limited free time and i can certainly notice it. it really helped with my skiing.

well i stretch and lift weights im not like steriods and shit but i want to be able to do steezy handplants so badly and what bad can come from it worst case you get flexy and stronger and you get more poonanni

ive done it for the past 2 weeks and dont think im going to slow down till my knee is back (atleast 7 monthes) and im very stiff as well

If yoga chicks wear lululemon pants as it's what they're made for, then I'm in!

I am as flexible as a broomstick right now.

the more flexible you are the less chance you have of being injured, and yoga gives you flexibility and strength, not to mention a really clear head. go to a class or two to get the basics, and then just do the poses and sequences you enjoy and the ones that feel good. dont bother with the stuff thats too hard or doesn't feel right. i really like sun salutations, there are about a million versions of those but the sequence feels really good and its a nice stretch.
