I got a detention today for texting my dad in class. The teacher wouldnt give me my phone back. She said she was keeping it until Monday. Is it legal? Its not a big deal im just wondering.
 
Well, technically i don't think so, but the school/teacher has the choice, so you can accept it or go to a different school

yes. It's legal. Why wouldn't it be? If she won't let your parents get it after school, then that's wrong.
 
jsut dont give it to them.

then when they try to take it you can claim rape, they get fired and you get mad settlement. then you can leave school, smoke weed and live of a ever dwindling supply of money. so basically live like a skiier.
 
I never said it was the end of the world. And the school secretary wouldnt give it too me she said wait until monday. High School.

Legal? Are you retarded? You were texting in class which is not following the rules. Teachers do have the right to take your phone for texting in class regardless if you are texting your dad or not.
 
Funny story cause I was texting your mom and my teacher came over to take the phone then he saw who it was and was like "oh I got that bitches number too"
 
I can see taking it until the end of the day but not all weekend. what if you were hurt or something and couldn't get help because the teacher had your phone.
 
keeping it over the weekend sounds pretty retarded and lame, regardless of whether she's allowed to or not. shouldve known the geniuses of NS would attack you for even asking though
 
From what I've heard, with Scott Walker's new bill, students have 'freedoms' and teachers cannot take away our phones.

I got my phone taken 3 times senior year for texting/answering a phone call in class.

The first time they took it for a day..

Second time they made my mom pick it up

Third time i had to sign a contract saying i wouldn't bring it to class because they technically couldn't take my phone for a weekend/week whatever the next severe punishment would be.

Not saying its illegal but there was a reason they wouldn't take it for an extended period of time...
 
Why didn't you just have your dad go get it from the office at the end of the day, and explain that it was him that was texting you about something important. Unless the teacher is a total bitch, she'll give it back. I don't really see how they can keep it past the end of the day anyways.
 
At my school we have two principals. They were both gone. My teacher that took my phone said she was taking it to them and they werent there so she gave it to the secretary. I asked to see the principal and she said "Sorry they arent here" I said k but I need my phone for the weekend. And she straight up yells "Listen I cant help you. Go find your teacher and talk to her about it". I went back to my teacher and asked for my phone she said "That sucks maybe next time you'll learn your lesson." I Said "Listen I was texting my Dad, Is it even legal to take my phone for the weekend for texting a guardian?" She said even if it isnt im still gonna do it. Too bad." And then i left.
 
at my school it's 3 days the first time, 5 days the second and the third time you get caught you have to sign a contract..
