Hey,

So i know this is gay for me to post this on here and kind of shitty

that I'm 19 and trying to get involved with this ( no haters) , but I've been skiing

since I was three; pretty competent, took a few years off though for

various reasons so trying to get back on my game early on this winter

for sure.

Anyways, I like reeeealllllllllly wanna get into free skiing and need

some help. I'm from newton mass, which is kind of a bitch, but i'm

getting new skiis and boots for xmas and I'm down to go skiing like

every weekend this season. Wanted to know if anyone was from the area or

just in general who'd be down to help me get involved?

you should find that if you're half way friendly and outgoing while skiing park that anyone around would give you pointers. i wouldnt worry about it too much. focus on enjoying yourself and it'll all come to you.

Yo,

your post was really sweet- thanks! I'm psyched to start skiing and your advice really helped me. I jsut wanna have a good time and have fun and get good at what i'm doing and i'm really happy to see that the ski community is down to help out noobs. Hope you're doin well!!

come to wachusett, where learning is against the rules....unless you dont give a fuck about all of the douche bags acting tough on the lift

What Chris said, except don't take the mass pike to 91, 2 west off 95 is faster and significantly more direct.

yeeeeee i know i wish i lived closer to a mountain so then things like that would be more possible. I don't have any friends in Maine but I'd be down for a day trip sometime quite possible? would just involve getting up mad mad early. Stay in touch

Yes! Wachusett's a more legit consistent possibility just cuz it's closer to home. I can dig it, we should meet up when I'm on the mountain

so you're in newton? Sorry,I usually assume this is the UVM cult. A lot of good skiing options. Most pass deadlines are over but I would strongly look into getting one. If you're in school I'd suggest the mount snow or sr/loon/loaf one if you're in newton. Wawa has night skiing which is a major plus if that is going to be your time table for skiing but there are a lot bigger scenes and kids that would love to give pointers at snow/sr/loon.

yea come to mount snow. hit me up when u do. i work in the marketing dept there and theres def some chill ppl that ride carinthia

If u want a ton of legit locals come to Jay Peak. They have a tram and lines are never that bad. Prices are decent too like 40 for a day as opposed to stowe where its 90 for a day pass

wachusett is sounding like your best bet. the only other mountains i know of around boston are blue hill and bradford. wachusett is probably the most legit for park out of those 3, and its close enough to newton that the drive isnt a pain in the ass. their student pass should only be like $200 right now, i think thats the price after the deadline. the bad parts about wachusett are getting heckled by the little kids who think theyre the shit, and it doesnt really compare to better parks like loon or mt snow. i would get a pass to wawa if i was you, meet some people there to ride with and learn from. i know theres a lot of kids from worcester colleges who hit up up on weekdays and nights. when you can, take a few day trips to places like loon or mt snow or waterville to hit up some better parks.

Yeah, unfortunately i'm in Newton. I wish I went to UVM or to some school closer to a mountain- I'll def look into getting a pass, it makes the most sense! Thanks for the pointers and I'll def be visiting snow/sr/loon to get some pointers nd just have some fun shredding! We should ski together sometime

I disagree. If you are coming from newton, 90 is right there, you would have to drive up from newton on 95 to rt 2. So either way you have to drive up north, so it doesn't really matter if you do it on 91 or 95, but if you do it on 91 you can drive much faster on 90 than you can on 2. I've done both from Needham and I'm pretty sure 90 is faster.

I'm gonna test it out monday night, ahaha, see what the drilly is. You can go like 80 on 90 without getting a ticket. Sometimes you get locked on 2 behind someone going 40. But there are so many dank shortcuts on rt 2....

Id say your best bet from mass would be to head up to waterville or loon.....anything closer kinda sucks and anything farther is....just far away. just ask ppl in the park and im sure ppl would be down to throw some pointers your way.

also...just watch people...and then just try shit on soft snow days

come to burke mountain there are never any features that are really that technical(usually i would say that it is a bad thing)and it would be a good place for you to get into the park scene and progress at your own pace there are also almost never lift lines here
P>S if you decide to come to burke pm me and i will invite you to the cult or you can just join because it is auto accept

yea 617. im from wellesley. wachusett is probably your best bet. its getting a late start this year but by january they usually have a pretty good park up, and they make you get park passes which keeps most of the gapers and munchkins out of the park so its not over crowded. if youre willing to make the drive loon is awesome with huge park stuff about 2 1/2 hours away, and mount snow is great also about 3 hours away. oh and blue hills is like 20 minutes away in canton its cheap but pretty shitty (2 trails) and last year was their first year with a "park" and that was a couple rails, a couple boxes and a small jump. have fun

your a girl...all guys love to talk to chicks in the park...jus have some real fun... and your crew and tricks will come naturally

make the couple hour drive into NH and get it in there, forget Mass. skiing (no offense 617 folk) but places like gunstock, cranmore, or even shawnee are great places to learn some new style in the park, features of all shapes n sizes and a variety of different size rails and boxes and better all around skiing then anything in mass. hope that helps...gotta support women skiers we all know our sport has quite the shortage haha....

my cousin lives in boston and he comes up to sunday river and thats where I ski too but i'm from maine so it's a lot closer but still I dunno how far from boston you are but sunday river isnt bad from there. just gotta wake up a tiny bit early. If you come to maine though for a day trip I'd ski with you. basically the best way to learn is to just follow someone better than you around and watch what they do. I pretty much learned everything just following my older brother around.

i go to okemo pretty much every weekend from uconn which is like just under a 3 hr drive. the time goes by quick though. mountains in vt, nh, or maine are going to have more to offer in their parks and just in general for skiing, but there's no night skiing and it is a lot of miles to put on a car. but its really up to u where u wanna go. and anywhere u go people will be friendly and offer their advice.

and the mountains say this all the time but its so true - "respect gets respect"

If your not annoying, it's easy to meet people, make friends and they will help you. You could meet up with an ns'er for a lesson maybe. Your best bet if making the long haul to mount snow. But there's also Wachusett which from what i've heard there's lots of idiots there, and idk whats up at bradford.

i live in quiency, so not to far away, go to blue hills, kinda a small dinky hill but the have a decent flat box and long flat rail up, i should be heading over there soon, ill give u some pointers too, if u need um
