Yet another topic about ski length

Hi.

Since my 2021 dollos blew up only after 20 days with them, I will probably not continue with Armada at this point.

Is this normal?? Haven't had a ski break up on me in over 2 times of similar use.

All my skis before the dollos have been on the stiffer side, but after them I've kinda learned to love the mild softness they offer.

After reading tons of rooftop reviews I'm leaning towards K2 Reckoner 102 for my next ski. I'm 175cm tall and I ski only park. The Reckoner comes in 177 & 184cm and I can't make a decision between them. My skillset is fairly advanced, can do (on easy rails/tubes) all 270's out, a K-fed, and a wacky 270 in. 360 safety from a 26' kicker.

I loved 177cm ARV96 and 180cm Edollo, 171cm TW Pro felt too noodly.

Should I go for the 177cm? Is the 184cm Reckoner 102 too beefy for me? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks!

Damn. That sucks. My Armadas have never done that but I’ve never had E Dollos either.

Probably 184 would be a good size, given the rocker.

Yeah. I've liked the 180cm Edollo very much, and would like to go for a similar feel of length with my next ski. With the 177cm Reckoner the feel would be somewhat shorter than the 180cm Edollo -> I should go for the 184cm?

Reckoner is very easy to ski and stiffer underfoot but flexible tip and tails. I think you'd be happy with them in a longer length.

I have the reckoners and they are awesome, but they definately arent as beefy as my last bdogs imo. The topsheet gets way more beat up but they still hold up great. I am 185cm and have the 184 and they fit great, wouldnt really want any bigger. 177 would work great but in my experience for some reason armadas feel the beefiest and they can take a hit.

184 it’s a softer more rockered ski

I’d have to disagree here, I’m 6’/180cm tall and around 200 pounds and I ski the 184 Reck 102 as my daily, if you’re only skiing park I would size down, especially if you like to spin on and off rails. I find the 184 to be too long when I’m trying to spin it. It’s definitely light but the actual, physical length has caused me to hang up and catch an edge where I wouldn’t on a shorter ski. They also measure true to size, so a 177 will actually be 177. OP, I’d go 177 if you like to spin. If you wanted all mountain versatility, you could go 184 but personally I’d recommend the 77.

You think that the additional 2cm in the tip and tail make all the difference in the world? I can do all my humble spin tricks with the 180cm Edollos and 177cm ARV96's.

K2 measures true and the 180 Edollo is closer to a 178 in reality. They would ski like the same length

Yeah this is pretty much what I meant ^ a 177 Reck is gonna ski a lot like a 180 Dollo. I have a 180 BDog Edgeless and it feels very similar to the 77 Reckoner (I demoed one for a week before deciding on the 184, because the 77 felt like too much overlap). I don’t think you’ll go wrong with either one, it’s just that if you don’t need the extra length, there’s no point in going with it.

that's a very normal break for sure. i would for sure recommend not getting new skis with such little season left. those skis are fine just keep ripping em till they're completely busted. maybe just file the edge down a bit where it broke and you'll be all good

This is true, the reckoner 177 are about the same length as the Edolo 180 in the end, I'd bet they're just 1cm shorter.

(From comparing my old ARV 106 180 to my new Reckoner 102 177, and assuming the ARV 180 and Edollo 180 are the same length)

Yeah, I'll ride them for the majority of the season left. We still have like six weeks or so here in Finland ?

First day in the books with the Reckoners.

Mixed feelings. They are by far the stiffest ski under boot I have ever tried. Like on a scale of 1 to 10, around 11.5. Tips, tails, and riding on soft snow feels quite a lot like the Edollo, which is a good thing.

Conditions were hard and icy, that didn't help with the stiffness.

These will soften up a bit, right? If they don't, they are not a good ski for me (I've got a long history of strain injuries in my shins and everything below them).

Interesting you find them that stuff, I found the ski had a nice round flex pattern with more beef underfoot but not THAT much

Yeah, feels very weird and was unexpectable for sure. I'm on a week trip at Ruka atm, so there should be some slush in the upcoming days to test them out in softer conditions. Tomorrow will be on Edollos.
