Yet another fks/pivot question thread........

I know there are dozens of threads about these bindings here on Newschoolers, and I read pretty much all of them, but now I´m just even more confused...

First off some info about me, I live in Finland so I can´t find almost any of those old fks 155´s which I hear would be perfect for me. I´m 6´2´´ and weigh 180ish, usually ski at din 7. I´m putting the new bindings on the new Bacons, which I´m going to pre-order and I could get a rather good package deal with some new bindings. I also have 05 or 06 Look P12 jibs with the turntable heel in quite good condition on my old skis I never use anymore.

The fks/pivot bindings I´m talking about are the Look Pivot 14 10/11. So these have the turntable heel but a plastic toe piece?

At my ski shop I could also get Marker Griffon/Jester (/Schizo) or Salomon STH12/14/16.

The Look Pivot 14 is the most expensive of all these bindings. If they were fks 155 I wouldn´t even consider those other bindings but are the new ones also that much more bombproof?

Or do you think it would be wise to put on my old P12 jibs that have seen at least of 3 years of abuse already?

Thanks, +K

Oh and there´s also Look PX12´s and Rossignol Freeski 120´s at my ski shop, but they´re not too good, right? And the Look Pivot 18 too but I´ll never need that high DIN.

the 14's are the same as the old pivot 12's just they have a higher din so just put your old ones on your skis and if you feel the din is to low get the 18 or 14.

And just to make sure they also have the same hole pattern, right? So if my old P12 jibs break, I could just buy new Pivots and mount them in the same holes?

Nevertheless I don´t feel too sure about putting so old bindings in my new dear skis... I don´t want anything to go wrong this time, I just want a binding I don´t have to worry about breaking all the time.. That´s the reason I might go for Looks anyway cause my present skis have Marker Griffons on them and they have popped off the rail a couple time like I´ve never seen any other binding do, and my old Looks had never any problems.

they do have the same hole pattern but if you feel so strongly about not putting old bindings on your skis just buy the new pivots

Yeah thanks for the info. I guess I´ll just decide if I buy the new Pivots when they come available to pre-order depending on if I have enough money...

There is a couple differences with your old p12's and the new Pivots. Your old P12's heel isn't a full turn table as opposed to the Pivot, this means that you won't have as much lateral release in the P12's as the pivots, also the heel in the Pivots is a full metal heel. This just gives it more durability. Also, the Griffons or Jesters aren't a bad idea. They have changed the design slightly in them from the first generations, so there virtually no pre-release anymore. In the first gens. the tow pieces had a pretty severe ramp angle not allowing sufficient boot contact. They have lessened that tore ramp angle securing the boot better in the binding. They ski much better then the first gens. and for someone who skis at a 7 din would work well.
Hope this helps!

are you sure your p12 jibs are pivots or turntables? there is a big difference between those. these are the p12 jibs i'm thinking of:

and turntables look like this:

big difference

Yes you just did help very much. I didn´t know Look made different kinds of turn tables... But that sounds great since my old ones were so bomber too. The Griffons I have are the second or third generation I believe... I don´t know, if I´ll buy Marker it´ll probably be the Jester Schizos because they would be a dream with the Bacons! Still I´ve heard so much negative feedback about them so probably gonna stick with the Looks. Now to decide the mounting point... Oh boy

And yes at least they look exactly like the blue ones on the top.

OK thanks for that. So now probably gonna buy the new Pivots OR the Jester Schizos IF I can find enough positive feedback to convince myself...

Yeah but it´s the Schizo mechanism I´m most worried about... But I believe Marker would fix them if they had any major problems though... Idk I would still like to be completely confident about my setup and I believe the Pivots would do just that.

I have seen a lot of Schizos come in and out of our shop and i will honestly say that they are pretty bomber. I was super skeptical about them as well, because the more shit there is to break the more shit you will break. But the mechanism is super simple and is essentially i tied together a demo track. There isn't too much to go wrong with it. The schizos are legit. I think you'll be happy with both.

Again thank you very much for a helpful comment. Well actually not helpful cause you made my decision a hundred times harder... lol. But yeah thanks now it´s just my own decision...
