lately i have read a lot of posts about mounting positions, and how people move their bindings up a bit. My question is why not mount them according to the mounting line? does mounting them forward throw off carving and all mountain performance?

i recently moved the mounting on my old blue and white 1080's to one inch back from center and it's hecka sweet. it's a lot better for park, and i like it for riding around everywhere else too. it takes a little getting used to cuz there's a lot of tail, but the ski just feels more balanced, i like it.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.
 
mounting positions? that list is long.....u have missionary, doggstyle, cowboy.....

^hahaha i was waiting for someone to say that...i heard that you mount them 3 1/2 cm from the mounting point on the ski or something like that

 
well i have skied skogens for the past two years and those are pretty far up, but i was asking because people have been talking about the PEs and i am looking into them. They were designed by skiers, so it seems they would choose the mounting point for a reason. is the waist measured from the center of the ski, or the mounting line?

mounting point for pe's is 3 1/2 for park and it still rips all mounatin. i asked GUTT on the msg boards,

I think every ski should be mounted where the manufacturer recomends. Some people want them 'center mounted' for jib which wastes the sidecut and turning raduis is well, greatly reduced. Others mount them back for powder......which once again basically wastes the design of the ski. I always say stick with manuf. recomendations because that ski is built to be mounted at that point...not back, not forward but at the sweet spot.

If you want better flotation in powder then perhaps you should look at a powder ski. Better spin ski??? Look at a good jib ski like the PE, 1080, whatever. Mix? Something like the Pocket Rocket.

All of these skis have rec. points. I think mounting in a different spot fux the ski's performance up.

I've tried skis mounted in different spot and I think it ruins em.

 
what i think is funny is all these people are asking where they should mount their skis if you need to ask where you should mount your skis then you probily shouldn't be mounting them anyways. just let the pros do it for your at your ski shop.

no you dont get what i am saying. people tell the shop techs to mount them forward, center, or whatever. im not going to go whip out my drill and mount them myself.

to ski powder just mount your bindings as close as possible to the tails of your skis, without the binding falling off the end. Oh, and add some speed holes to the tips.

you will always end up with a dif mounting position if you go off the manufacture suggested mounting position.

Get a tape measure and measure the ski tip to tail mark the center and then mount where you want it from center.
