Yes another video critique

So this was my first serious attempt at creating a skiing edit i had almost zero previous experienceI I used my parents canon t1i and the 18-55 kit lens so there is a good amount of motion blur from filming at 1080 20 fps I was just looking for a critique so i can improve my filming abilities for the future so have at it NSView attachment 471105

Some simple things that jumped out at me were a few overexposed shots, fade to black was a bit overused, and the song was cut off. You might want to have it fade out so the edit doesn't end so abruptly.

I agree. Typically fades to black signify the beginning or end of a segment. It's simplest just to not have them in the middle of it at all; they divide the edit pretty harshly.

Like was said above, some overexposure. It happens, but try and work on it.

You had some nice shots in there (I liked the jump shots), but there were others that just stood out as...lackluster; either for content or for framing. I may be somewhat of an edit snob, but I'm not really into seeing skiers straight slide rails. Call me an elitist, but it doesn't seem that special to me. In addition...what is :55 all about? The skier doesn't even finish the rail! As for framing, there were some shots where things were just off. Its 2 AM and I'm too lazy to go find them, I'm sorry, my apologies.

You have a really photogenic mountain, I think. I love the shots where you can see the traffic in the background. I don't know what camera you're filming with, but maybe try and set up those shots so that the traffic is more out of focus but the movement is still visible. That would be really nice to see. I challenge you to try it!

Good stuff, looking forward to see what you put out in the future. Just keep in mind that you gotta put effort into filming. That effort you put in is what you get out in terms of quality of footage. Just keep at it, keep watching edits, and do your best to consciously integrate techniques you like into your own footage. Good luck!

Not to thread jack but I don't think that we need another critique thread so I'll ask for some here. Any thoughts on my new MTB video.

/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngAny tips would be appreciated(+K) and check out the channel (linked in my sig too)

Take common sense to answer which you obviously don't have so go buy your 18-270 and a cineslider waste your money unless your parents will probably buy it for you and realize that It takes skill to make a good video not just nice equipment not saying I'm the best not saying I'm very good either I

I realize that but I don't clog up m&a asking ridiculous questions now get the fuck out of my thread because I am asking a reasonable question about how I can better my filming abilities

Coming from the biggest butthurt dude on Newschoolers, HAHAHAHAHA like you know it all about filming enough to recommend that a person is not worthy of partaking in it. I read your threads just to laugh at you freaking out at people, and I realize that your post in this thread was just you thinking "hehehe I also can throw around the hate on NS look at me go!!" Even though most other members hate on you happens because of your butthurtedness and retaliation for a reason, you post a rudely blunt, blatant, and hateful comment without reason. OP is exactly like you, knows not too much and wants some info on filming/photos. Hell, even I was like that with threads that I look back on and think "wow I was dumb" now:

When I thought focal length was all that mattered:

I didn't understand why the lens was sub par at the time but trusted what everybody was telling me because they definitely knew much more than me.

When I knew embarrassly not much about anything regarding a camera

Basically I find when your buying anything as far as camera equipment goes you have to wait for that feeling of lust for that certain piece of equipment to go away in order to make an educated decision on what is best for your needs and price (for me at least). I know it's been said a million and a half times but never cheap out on glass, it's priced the way it is for a reason, weather you understand that reason yet or not. They'll never overprice something that's complete crap.

There's a whole bunch of people on here ready to help you, and in order for them to help you you'll have to treat them with respect. Even when they shut you down on something that you thought was super sick and stoked on, you cant just yell at them and call them names then apologize a post later, you have to stop and think for a second "is this really all that great, or am I just lusting over it"

P.S.: Always spend 15-20 minutes searching before you make a thread, a lot of times it's there but is hard to find. Google site search is your friend.

I know that sounded really mean but I had to get it off my chest
