Yearbook was a let down.

This is coming from somebody who use to love MSP. I got Yearbook in the mail today which I was super stoked about. But after watching it I was pretty disappointed. First off the soundtrack up until about half way through is just fucking terrible. I wanted to mute the TV. I can't believe they used wanna be a baller for Tanner Hall. The soundtrack for Focused was so good but yearbook's sucked. They filming was just weird. It looked unfinished. Lots of really close in shot so you couldn't see how big stuff was. The movie was really choppy with not flow to it and lots of interuptions. Most of the segs weren't all that good and the ones that were were too short. Pollard's is sweet but really short. I thought Steel had a really good segment. Abma's was good but not what I expected. Both Tanners kill it. I was really impressed with T Hall's. CR's was also good but really short. All the base stuff sucked ass and I hate that it took up soo much time in the movie. Seth's part was mostly him talking about his two injuries with a little skiing. Also the bonus section blows. Last years was awesome with the scenic stuff but there's not much this year. Th movie just made me think they didn't have a good filming year so they just through what they had together and didn't do a good job of it. Maybe it will grow on me the more I watch it. But for right now I'm going to say Focused was better.

I just didn't thin kit lived up to all the hype. I mean yeah it was really sick and the lines he skied were crazy. I just thought his seg in X was better.

okay i'll make this simple, the close up shots were done on purpose with the intention of making their airs seem huge. if you cant see the jump and all you see is them spinning with some dramatic mountainous background, it looks sick. thats the whole damn point. besides, i've learned that ski movies are just like albums. you can't judge it from the first time you see it, you gotta watch it several times to really appreciate both the skiers and the filmmaking. so shut up and go watch it a few more times.

Focused was alright but a huge letdown after SM3 which is fuckin' awesome.

i liked it a lot a thought it was done real well and a little dif then most other ski movies from them so i liked the fact that they changed up the normal flow.

 
when will MSP get it in theirhead, that no one wants to see ski basing, i cant think of a gayer facet of skiing other than ballet and aerials to exhibit. the last good MSP movie was SM3, focused was horrible except for CRs part.

Yeah the ski basing thing is really ruining their movies. The only people who think it's cool are like my mom who thinks it's like the scariest thing ever. It's not skiing really. It pisses me off because those guys use to be good skiers and I want to see them ski not parachute. It's no wonder they all got their sponsorships pulled.

i thought it was so tight that they used baller for tanners seg, but every other song sucked except for tanner rainvilles part. bit overall the movie was a letdown, i havent even finished some of the segs because they were so boring

 
i just went to the premiere last night. i thought the whole movie was sick, but a little hollywood. i don't know, it was just weird, that whole school thing, funny, but weird. i guess it's just cause they have so much more money that most other ski film companies. i liked bushfields seg. shane's was waaayyy too long AND they used the songs that have already been in ski movies, like on shane's part. that pissed me off. the soundtrack sucked but they made up for it in all the sick footage. all in all, i thought it was a good flick and i'm def ordering it. o yea, ingrid backstrom was SO sick, i was impressed.

i have to disagree. abma's segement was insane. t hall's was dope as was t rainville's. the only thing is that it gets old watching shane and jt holmes ski off cliffs parachuting.

Abma fucking killed it. Tanner Hall's segment was pretty good, but I really wish he would stop trying to act like such a baller. I like that song, but by including it, and by trying to look like such a fucking badass while skateboarding, he really isn't helping his image as a wanna-thug. Whatever though, he's tight anyway. I loved Tanner Rainville's segment. I'm fine with a little base shit. I dismissed it at first as a pretty cool stunt that would get old fast until I realized that the point was to ski shit you couldn't ski before, not just jump off high cliffs. McConkey's jump near the end with the double front flip before he even clears the lip of the cliff was fucking dope. However, they showed WAY too much of that stuff. They should have taken out over half those jumps and left it a much shorter segment. I liked the whole high school theme. It was well done, and I thought it was actually funny, instad of just sort of funny because it has these pro skiers we know that are acting stupid. Much better than past intros to ski movies, like that car wash bullshit. I thought the soundtrack was better than some people are saying, but I definitely wouldn't have had the same list.

Does anybody know the song from C.R.'s segment? It was an instrumental.

ya most of the good skiers filmed with other companies this yr and with seths shitty season there realy is no reason to buy the film

I wasn't really disappointed, but nor was I thrilled. I don't think I'd buy it, with the other stuff coming out, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a letdown... Rainville's seg was great, and Abmas. I didn't mind McConkey for a while, but it did go on way too long.

Overall i felt that yearbook was a very well edited and exceptionaly well shot, what it lacked was the skiing. Abma had a sick segment. the shots were just work of art, the looked sick.

Like i said what it lacked was skiing. There were no mind blowing jumps or segments that just made your jaw drop (there were a few that were sick but nothing revolutionary for the most part)

But i feel this is because off all the injuries this year. Seth is normally one of them that make you go wow, but he had a few injuries this season with took away from his skiing. Mike wilson was the other dude that that injured and was not able to fully contribute to the video. This is all understandable and i give MSP credit for its editing. and i liked the whole school theme they had going with it because it added a little something to the video that a lot of other ski videos dont have.

What i didnt like was the soundtrack. this music sucked and a few of the songs were in Ready Fire Aim. whats up with that? you guys could have atleast come up with some different music then they other film companies.

 
there is never gonna be a movie everyone likes, so using the reviews in forums on here to decide which ones to buy isnt such a good idea,

3 things really pissed my off #1) how there was a 25 minute segment of god damn base jumping #2) Seth's part was close to nothing and #3) The music blew...

 
^ thats because seth was injured. maybe next time they can run a 25 minute segment of him sitting in a hospital bed to make you happy. O yeah and have them play some underground hip hop so you can like the music too

 
Yeah I thought they should have just left Seth's stuff out. It was disappointing to see him struggle. It's hard seeing an icon like him, someone you have looked up to for so long, kind of in the last leg of his career. I know we all wanted to see him have another great year but it just wasn't happening. I hope he's not over because Seth is the greatest thing to ever happen to skiing and we all own him a lot. I hope he trains hard and comes back strong next year and blows us all away with one last sick segment.

Freezy actually I'm 21 and I'd consider myself a big mountain skier. I just didn't see the stuff I was expecting to see in the movie. Obviously there was some super sicks stuff in it though. All those lines Abma skis are crazy and Hugo's part is solid.

^^ i hate to tell ya but these are freestyle movies none the less, not big mountain. if you want big mountain go holla at warren miller but as for that we are freeskiing, not big mountain crappy. get the drift.
