Year-End Progression Thread

Since the ski season is (unfortunately) winding down, i thought this would be an interesting thread. How much did you guys progress this year as a skier?

I'll start off: this was my first year skiing. It took a few weeks getting used to the sport, but by years-end, I can ski double-blacks (semi)comfortably, ski powder decently well (not too steep haha), and do most basic rails and 180's. Hope to progress my park-skills bigtime next year.

Next year, go ski pow on one of the steeper parts of your mountain. The steeper a run is, the easier it is to ski pow. My season isn't over yet, so I'm sure I'll progress on these final weeks, as always. My progression seems to come in waves though, is it like that for anyone else?

my first year with twin tips. i learned frontflip. backflip. 1,3,5, almost 7. rails. switch ups, 270 off. pretzels. yay

i got hurt in december so that ended my season. didn't progrees nearly as far as i wish i could've but next year i hope to just be back to my full potential and kill it!

I progressed more than i tought i would on my first year, the original plan was to learn 5s and 270s outta rails, but in the end i found my self doing backflips and 7s off 50feet kickers, k-feds and 4s outta rails..

Didn't learn right spins or big fakie triks as much as i would of wanted

The main thing was to unpencil my spins with variety of clean grabs thrown in. Also, super smooth slow spins instead of hucked pencil 7's.

I stepped up my rail game a bunch. Got all 8 and pretzels. Worked some on my switch and got switch cork 9 and switch misty 9. Got unnatural 7. And did my first double, double cork 1440, at aspen. Pretty stoked on this year!!!

Second season. Last year I could do normal rail slides and small 3s. This year I have fs and bs 270s out, fs and bs swaps, 2 on, switch on, and some grabbed 3s. Pretty sweet season.

Last year I could sometimes get 5s and I could slide most rails and boxes. This year I can grab 5s, 7s and I can do every single flip pretty much ( up to 9) and dub back.... And switch spins and I'm going for dub cork Thursday or Friday....

holy shit i got owned for my first year haha.

maybe it's because i had to take like a month and a half off skiing because I was sick..

at teh start of the year i could do pencil 7's fronts and backs, and 2/8

end of year i can do sw 9s, sw 7 japans, sw rodeos, misty 5 and 7, rodeo, underflip, superman front, and 6/8

Thankfully my years not over yet, but i dont feel i've really progressed too much so far. I havent learned anything new of jumps but hoping to learn flatspin before its all said and done. Although my rail game is alot smoother and can switch up and twosev off(only front for both) theres certainly more i couldve/shouldve learned. But fuck it, i had an awsome season, progressing or not, so thats all that matters right now

pretzel and switch up variations and 270 onto hand rails hitting bigger jumps and getting grabs with a spin just more control and conformable on rails and in the air

I actually got worse. Well the last weekend i started getting some stuff back but last year it seemed i had more balls and alot more style on my airs.

my progression was actually freakishly similar to yours... except i learned to grab all of my spins and also learned other inverts like frontflips and mistys

decent year for me. didn't get to do the jumping i wanted because i have shit hills around me, but i progressed here and there
270's on, 270's off, 50-50 on, fs swaps, k-feds on any well set up rail feature. hand drag cork 3's too, so sick. and a front off a cliff too

still, dub blacks are a legit accomplishment. When you beast mode a double black, you get down and feel like you owned the fucking mountain. Love that feelin

last year i could strait-air and case a 10ft jump, go off the sides of the rail lips and 50-50 boxes.

this year i dropped a 30ft cliff which scared the shit out of me, can underflip, 180, 360, and cork 360 with grabs on our 35ft jump(which i wish was bigger but its our largest park feature) can frontside switchup and frontside 270 out of kink rails.

still cant 540 for some reason, but will hopefully get them down at momentum

first year of zero progression. it actually feels really good not worrying about doing good tricks and just enjoying skiing around for fun. i highly recommend it.

my pow riding skills have increased about 10fold in the past week.

since i dislocated my collarbone and would be screwed if i fell on it again, i definitely have been really focused on technique.

First season with twintips as well. learned 3's with grabs, 5's, cork 3s, switch 3's, frontflips & backflips, 270 off rails, and just hitting bigger jumps and cliffs. Still got another month and a half before whistler closes so def gonna go out there and add more to this list!

Season isn't even close to over, but so far this year I have learned:

Jumps:

A few new grabs in spins up to 5 (Dub Japan, Uncrossed Blunt)

Unnatty Blunt 3

Frontflip

Thrown Lincoln, went badly haha

Rails:

Front 2, Front Swap,

Blind 2, Blind Swap,

K-fed, Brittany, Super Brittany

2 on, Urban 2 on,

Lip on, Lip on Front 2, Lip on blind 2

Front 4

the fuck is a britney and super britney?
i know a k-fed, but those other two make me feel old for not knowing the jib lingo as well as i used too...sigh :(

i did not even go in a park this year

i got much faster in bumps which was one of my goals, skied at magic a lot, and got better in super tight chutes, jumpturns, and long straightlines in tahoe

i didn't get hurt

i stayed away from park

i jumped off of lots of rocks into deep snow

i found a $10 bill on a run

i had lots of fun

season=success

as for trick i got that i couldnt do last year, i got these so far

rodeo/flat 5 (with variety of grabs)

rodeo 7

tail 3

tail 5

cork 5 safety

cork 7 tail

underflip japan or safety some times

switch cork 5,7(with variety of grabs)

switch rodeo 5

switch 9 mute

super fed both ways

unatural lip to front/blind 2 out

lip 270 on urban

tried misty 450 off canon box and didnt work out

tried kang on bc jump and didnt work out (will land one this year tho)

back flipped first cliff without packing a lip in the pow.

probly forgetting some but thats what i remember off the top of my head. It was a sick year for learning stuff.

There are still a couple tricks i want to land this year tho including cork 9 tail, switch 10 mute and all 4 450s.

To all those who just started this year, props on your progression and keep skiing cuz its dope.

quite similar but I got front and back 4s out, front flips, back flips, underflips, lincons plus I got CSIA certified but my season doesn't end til July :)

my first year skiing since i was 4 my best tricks right now are 450 out both ways(only on really high rails lol)kfed variations and i have 540s on 40 foot jumps but not consistant at all

Second year skiing park

Goals:

Styley spins lots of grabs up to 5: [X]

7 with grab: [X]

Some kind of flip [X]

Switch 5 [ ]

Cork/rodeo/misty: [almost]

Any switch up 270 out [X]

2 450s out [X]

Unnatural 270s out [X]

270 on [X]

Learned way more than my goals on rails, but this year sucked for jumps and my mountain only had them for like 2 weeks so I didn't get enough done, still go 2 more weeks to learn rodeos and switch 5s!

8th or 9th year skiing park. I did not land cork 10, rodeo 9/7, switch rodeo 5/7 and probably plenty more. all of these tricks I have done seasons before. I also won no comps and landed no new tricks.

haha my most unprogressive season ever. I also nutted myself a record amount of times for a season and it was all in one rail jam.

this spring I am stomping a double flat 9 and then my season will not have been that bad
