Xmas vs Christmas

Is it really that big a deal?? Why throw a sht fit over it??? Can't people just accept the name that has been around for close to 2,000 yrs? I get annoyed seeing people jump through hoops trying to change what has been around for so long.

xmas is shorter to right and easier to spell. I see nothing wrong with it. I don't right it just because I'm angry at religion and like an x to replace christ or whatever, sometimes its just easier to right like that.

I don't see why there is a problem with it either way.. I don't even really like xmas anyways. Def not one of my fav holidays

What the fuck?!

LOL

the name Christmas first appeared in 1038 as Christemasse which was a reference to a Christ mass, not the gift giving party you think of.

The X in Xmas comes from the Greek/roman alphabet letter X which is the first letter for Christ. As for the abbreviation, Xmas has been used since the mid 16th century

the celebration on the 25th as a whole really was derived out of the pagan celebration of the winter solstice.

i don't get why it should bother anyone. its just a shorter way to write it. It's not this whole "taking christ out of christmas" thing that people think for some reason. It still has the exact same meaning

Hahahahahahaha.

Well, since X-Mas in when the robot santa comes around and blows people up, I'm going with Christmas.

I think Christ has already been taken out of Christmas a long time ago. it just a big marketing thing now anyways. If you study it out Christmas started with the catholics who at one time persecuted Christians... but then switched their view point when it became more convienent for them to do so. Also it isnt even the right time of year for christs birth so obviously it is just a representation of that day. And businesses have just ditched the whole christ part and it is one big money maker...

well, yes. The whole thing for the majority really isn't a religious holiday, no matter how hard they try to justify it as being one. Like everything else, it's evolved into a commercial thing. Though either way, as a religious holiday, or big money maker, i think everyone deserves a few days off towards the end of the year to relax, and thats what it does.

i'd read that its the wrong time of year too. I remember seeing somewhere that if jesus had been born on dec 25, he probably would have died shortly after.

If it ain't Christmas it must be Hanukkah.

There is no Xmas. I automatically assume you cannot even wipe your own ass if you use xmas instead of christmas. Do you want to be a shit flinging monkey? Do ya now?

I'm actually really bad at spelling. Well more just typing things wrong. No too awful at spelling. Grammar is not my thing though.

Then again I dont really care. My text messages are hard to read even if im sober. If Im messed up good luck

Really? Why do people even care. Seriously. I dont care what you call it, people know what your talking about. I'm surprised this thread hasn't died yet

Practice for what? I use plenty of long word. I just like shorter variations of words.

Like prolly. Who has the time to type probably. Same with xmas, nobody wan't to type that and deal with trying to spell christ right.

happy holidays pisses me off. the world is trying to be too politically correct in my opinion.

I also thought that in another language like Latin or something ( I could be way off) that X is the symbol for Christ

I think people in this society are just to freakin lazy to write out the word Christmas, so they chose to take the easy way out by being pussies and writing x-mas.

did you come here only to correct my timeline facts ?? I was hoping to get some legitimate opinions on this. Not "yeah, dawg you learned this fool."

So conclusion... guess ns doesn't really give a shit, but thanks for setting my facts straight in the end

but dude, you were wrong. "x-mas" has been around for ever and means literally the same thing. its not like 5 years ago some dude was like, hmm, i think ill replace christ with an x because we need to remove religion from this holiday!!!

xmas = christmas, you = retard

you make a thread with the premise

Can't people just accept the name that has been around for close to 2,000 yrs?

as if saying the modern celebration were something founded by Jesus himself. The fact is you take up a non-issue on false premises, which is both boring and stupid. At this point both usages are legitimate. I point this out for the want of decent subject matter. IMO it would have been better to point out the misunderstanding of Xmas as a term, and layout your points after.

for example: The X, as a symbol, is an interesting topic. The X is the first letter for Christ in Roman& Greek , it also is a physical representation of a cross, which is relevant to the story of Christ. Both of those connections make for a compelling case to understand why Xmas is an appropriate word to refer to the event, Christmas. [Insert your own feelings here to complete]

I understand what you are saying and you're right. The message did come off as sounding that Jesus was the foundation for this ancient tradition which i know to be untrue. I should've checked the facts before rattling off numbers. idk, just interested to see what every1 thought.
