Xgames vs. world champs

The X Games and the World Championships are on at the exact same time this year.

Yeah...something sounds weird... Xgames and world champs on the same day. X games gives you fame and recognition, but champs give you FIS points.

This. I'm not sure Russ got an early invite because he was injured a lot last season (though he may have for slope).

At first sight the worlds look like a collection tank for all those who didn't make the cut for X games which likely will always be. Still a lot of talent at the worlds which could make for a really good comp if they set up a good course.

It's purely coincidental but really unfortunate.

FIS chooses the dates and location for World Champs years in advance to allow the host city/resort to prepare their facilities (much like the Olympics but on a smaller scale). ESPN schedules X-Games around other "bigger" sporting events that the masses would prefer to watch.

Both events are going to have awesome courses built and I'm jacked to be heading to Austria on Thursday for Worlds. Pretty stoked that Russ has decided to do Worlds but I doubt anyone else is going to make that same choice.
