Xbox problems

Yesterday I was playing skate and COD perfectly fine and today I got to turn it on and the fan runs super loud while the light flashes green and then turns solid red. So I turn it off and try to turn it on again, same thing happens....now I can't turn it on at all. Did it died? Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it?
 
first mistake was getting an xbox....it is easy to fix im told and there are lots of ppl that can fix it. use this as your opportunity to switch to the right system. (cough, cough) ps3
 
it cooled off overnight though so technically it shouldn't have overheated which is the cause of the red ring of death, is it not?
 
The only games worth getting a PS3 for are Metal Gear Solid and Drake's Fortune. Xbox has the clearly superior online service and all the other games that you could ever want. All things considered, Xbox > Playstation
 
not even close. battlefield 3, black ops is great, skyrim, mw3, all the assasins creed, batman arkham asylum/city, etc. there's so many good games, with far better graphics, plus its a blue ray dvd player, and free online play. PS3 is a better system all around, and the online play is war more fun than xbox live, i've had far better experiences on PSN with the people on there than xbox live.

ps3 is far real gamers, and the more mature crowd. IMO.
 
Im defiantly keeping my xbox no matter what, but idk what the problem is, I think the AV cable is just loose because I got all 4 lights flashing rather than the three which signify that it is overheating
 
Or you could build a gaming rig and start taking your vidya gaymen seriously

OP is your xbox the old phat version or the new slim version? I successfully fixed two old xboxs by taking them apart and re-fluxing the solder joints. They worked for ~another two months but it was a good temporary fix.
 
Lol. I don't play video games nearly enough to try to argue with a "real gamer," but this sentence was hilarious.
 
yeah well I've never researched into the new ones at all so I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

If you still have warranty I'd send it in. They'll give you an xbox live card for the month it takes to get fixed.

Before you do this, there are some "dummy" check things on xbox's website that you might want to check out. Eg: trying a new power cord
 
I think those are my only 2 options now because it won't even turn on anymore. From the research I did it said my AV cable might not be plugged in all the way so I tried that but got nothing, so I could be that or the power cable.
 
This happened to me a few months ago. I took it to gamestop and they said it could sometimes be fixed, but not usually. Mine didn't:( Good luck.
 
okay this is what i did follow the sodering steps until its all done....then do not put it back together....go online and buy a gaming computer housing put it in there with a computer fan inside the housing and it plays great and cool, mine never over heats and i had it die about 2 years ago. it costs a bit but its way less then a new xbox.

goodluck (p.s. it looks sick if you get a clear housing with l.e.d.s inside)
 
Even while it was down because it got hacked? The whole PS3 vs. Xbox argument is completely opinion based.
 
i'm not saying its more fun based on the technical side of things, because, i'm sure if that guy wanted to, he could've hacked xbox live too.

i'm saying the people playing PSN are more fun and often more mature, based on my experiences with both online play. its a more mature crowd, and more of a "core" gamer crowd. unlike xbox live, which is a lot more 10-16 year olds trolling or talking shit or being stupid.
 
also, i'm not a "real gamer", i dont play all that much, most of the time its just with my brothers over the PSN, its a fun way to catch up and keep in touch while playing video games at the same time.

but what i meant, was there's a larger crowd of hardcore gamers on PSN and its not a bunch of 14 year olds trolling and talking shit. which, in my opinion makes it more fun. as stated above.
 
here is some advice for xboxers: dont watch dvds on your xbox. ever notice that microsoft makes no hardware other than the xbox? every pc with microsoft OS uses hardware from sony or someone for dvd readers. playstation is exclusive to BR, so of course the PS3 can play them with no problems. everyone i know who has religously not played dvds in their xbox's haven't had the red ring, and half of everyone i know who has, has got the red ring.
