Xbox 360 "Open Tray"

Whenever i start my xbox with a game in it, it will not read the game. it will say open tray instead of play such and such game. if i take the game out and put it back in it still says the same thing. is there any way to fix this? i already googled it but none of the stuff i could find was any help

Same thing happens to me now. I just have to keep opening and closing it until it reads.

turning off my xbox will help this has only happened to me a handful of times though, just give it a good bitch slap.

close the tray without the disc. the Box will "read" the disc and see there is nothing there. then open the tray again and put in the disc

This happens to mine all the time, i end up either putting it vertical or horizontal, usually only happens when its horizontal so i stand it up and it fixes it.

Open the tray. Turn off the power by unplugging so the tray is still out, put the disc in and turn it on, thats what i do when this happens.

Also give your disc a good clean.

yeah this happens to me a lot, i assumed it meant an impending red ring of death. thanks for the tips ill try them out next time that piece of shit wont read MW2

my buddy gave me his rrod box. I fixed it and it works pretty well, except whenever I put in borderlands, it says play dvd instead of play game. I have to open and close the disk tray until it says play game. takes like 5 times, but it works. however, reach works perfectly every time.
its a different problem than yours, but the solution might be the same.

Try putting an audio cd in the tray. That used to happen to me a LOT. It would usually read the audio cd first attempt, no problems. After that, I put the game disc in the tray and it worked right away

i actually basically fixed it by opening up my xbox and dist drive and cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol

It happened to me a lot, I tried pretty much every method mentioned here, and eventually it just wouldn't work. So i dropped $50 and replaced the disc drive, it works perfectly now.

Has been happening to my xbox for three years now. Legit just push down on top of the disc reader, this works for me...you start to feel it clicking into gear and that the disk spins mega quick and then BOOM...game time. Eventually you too will learn the secret touch
