i dont know if anyone saw this but i searchbared and nothing came up... I was also looking at the " 2009 X GAMES TO FEATURE EQUAL PRIZE MONEY FOR MEN AND WOMEN" thread and several people wondering if women slope style would happen soon... well here it is. personally I think this is great, hopefully encourage more women to get out there train and compete, I know women are not the best skiers but i feel like freestyle skiing is slowly opening more doors to women who would wanna go big and the progression in women freestyle skiing is just starting, I'm also very exited for this and to keep on pushing and at least have hope to some day end up there killing it with other chicks who rip. so to all the girls on ns i encourage them to keep shredding, and keep working hard because someday you could be the one on the podium with a gold medal in hand. what do you guys think of this?
 
Good for woman skiing... just I think the equal prize money is a bit ridiculous, just because in the mens its sooooo much more competitive. And I don't really think the equal prize money will get more girls competing, becuase don't girls ski and compete because they love to and not because of the money, and if they do it just for the money, well there a bit stupid because there aint much in skiing...

Should be sick though, hope Ash wins, shes slaaaaayin at the moment!!
 
Ok, I agree that this is great, but I think equal prize money is pushing it a little. A side from Kaya with her sw 7's mutes and ashley slaying the rails and jumps there isn't much competition on the womens' side. Raising prize money isn't enough of an insentive. I think that women should keep ripping it and push the sport in comps until we can close the gap a bit more with the guys. I know there are a few new girls out there really killing it and if we keep it up I really think its an attainable goal, but raising the prize money right away isn't the solution. People should rather open up more categories in comps for women so we can get out there and progress with one another.
 
Equal pay doesnt create the necessary incentive. Guys would still train and give it their hardest JUST to get into the X games, even if there wasnt money. Girls should be out there busting their vaginas everyday to get to that level. I dont think equal money is fair, considering the amount of competition isnt anywhere as close. This has NO relation to the level of skiing, just dedication and challenge to get into X games or a competition. Girls skiing is stepping up, but as of now its almost like handing out money
 
If Xgames can afford to give equal money, I think it's good that they're going to do it, especially since X is so widely broadcast, if girls see that the women are getting the same money as the guys, it shows there is a chance to make the same money as the guys if you're a female skier, so more incentive to even start skiing. I hope the ladies get more coverage along with the cash though. I highly doubt ESPN/EXPN/ all the companies that sponsor Xgames would do this if they would lose money because of it, so it must at least be profitable for them. For one, it will give them more credibility to non-skiers since they are showing gender equality. Maybe it will attract more female competitors? Women's freestyle skiing seems to be making a big push, there seems to be more girls than a few years ago, even on NS and there are organizations like http://www.shejumps.com/ .
 
it will not attract more female competitors unless they are showing girls in primetime which will never happen because guys are always gonna go bigger and do sicker shit.
girls don't deserve the same amount of $$ because they are so much worse and there arent as many girls interested in doing the sport, every year its the same group of girls that do not do a whole lot of challenging tricks. no offense, but a switch 7 is what won x games big air in like 1998 or one of the earlier years, i think it was JF, and that's a girls banger trick these days. it's that simple.
 
What I'm saying mostly is ESPN would not have done it if they didn't think it would be good for themselves in some way. From their point of view it is about money, not talent.
 
Ok I get that women aren't at the level at all to get the same prize money, but I still they should be valued. Guys who say women skiing is a real joke make me really angry. I realize the gap between the men and the women is very large, but to say that we shouldn't be taken seriously is ridiculous. there are some girls who throw down more than a lot of guys on this site. I agree women don't yet deserve equal prize money, but you guys can calm down with your idiotic rant posts. Don't worry your not less of a man if you don't make fun of womens' sports.
 
ya girls! how many competitors are there gonna be i feel like if its the same number as mens every single professional girl skier will be attending
 
because we're just starting, i think the slope style for women for the xgames is a great way to encourage women even more and i realized that women's freestyle skiing is just starting this is why there is such a big gap between men and women, i know women aren't as competitive as men but that doesnt mean we're not gonna progress though out the years.

and for everyone i didint mention i was for or against women getting payed equally at the xgames, this has already been disccused(sp?) in the other thread, i was just saying i looked around the thread and found people asking about the women slope style at the xgames. (sorry if my grammar is bad, English is not my 1st language)
 
it's ALL x sports that are giving out equal prize money NOT just skiing, a fact people seem to ignore.

WHOA WHOA WHOA.... Girls getting paid equal to men should have NOTHING to do with skill. Obviously women started up later and just wont get to the same level as men. I mean thats pretty much a given. You cant really expect women to be on par with professional men in this sport. Other things, Yes, but newschool skiing probably not. They are pushing it in their own respect. However, women should not be getting equal competition money due to the lack of competition. Since its easier to get to X games and podium in major comps, they should not get paid equal. I mean, how many times have you gone to a comp where theres 1 girl and she does a straight air when she is FULLY capable of doing a 7 and she still gets money? thats the reason why women should not get paid as much. When there is an equal amount of competition where it becomes really really difficult to get in or you can tell that all the girls are pushing it, then they should get equal competition pay

ps watching women's sports is like watching all the worst guys compete during their worst day...injured.
 
i agree, aside from the wnba i like watching women sports like beach volleyball ect.

Back to the point it's cool that the women are getting paid more, more to aim for and train for.

oh my gooooood im stoked. dude girls like ash are so ready for this event, im so stoked to see it finally happening. this is way sick, it gives girls something to work towards. personally, its something that im gonna strive to be in. its not about the prize money, its about girls getting out there and ripping it and getting some recognition with the boys.

I don't care if this is NS, and therefore the land of the free and the home of the hate... this is still the planet earth. People who post shit like this should be ashamed, because not only is it derogatory, its downright untrue.
 
Hopefully all the negativity that surrounds this topic will get the ladies fired up to prove themselves.

3. I'm actually friends with 2 sponsored girl skiers that I ride in the park with quite often /claim.
4. Since when is it impossible to say something that you think no truth of? Is the term "lying" unbeknownst to you?
5. I am not ashamed as it was clearly a joke and furthermore a joke poking fun at myself and my own supposed lack of confidence in my masculinity.

nothing against girls but that money would be better spent by giving out prizes to more places in the mens division. there are way more men trying to compete than women. if they are gonna step up girls prizes they should also step up mens as well
 
no matter how much the prize is, the same is gonna win as before, its not like some superunknown chick is gonna bust out of nowhere and take gold... and its true because every girl who looks pretty and can grind a rail(literal and dirty) gets sponsored. so by making it equal prize money, you are just rewarding girls for not trying at skiing.
look at figure skating. then look at skiing. what the fuck happened? pussification happened.
 
Lately i have seen a few girls killing it, not lilke tottaly great there at the same level as men but just a little better. Spinning on and off rails and such. Otherwise i know at least 10 to 15 kids who aren't sponsored or anything like that, that could destroy women's x games. There about 12-16. Girls don't deserve anything equal for prize money yet.
I think they could probably get to our level some day, but that isn't going to happen to soon.
