X Games Blowing it

I think they said 80 footer. Im wondering why they don't do something like, correct me if I am wrong, the 100 footer they had for Refresh in the Alyeska segment. I think that was Refresh wasn't it?

I think they shouldn't go any bigger In future years. I think we might see triple something tomorrow, but is that really good? I love watching big air, and the style that defines a skier is a big part of it for me, but will we lose that aspect of big air if they make the jumps CRAZY big? Just a thought..

Yeah personally I feel that in an event such as Big Air where progression of the sport is the name of the game the name needs to be of a big enough size to accommodate for progression of the sport. The jump this year just doesn't seem big enough to allow for that. Scotty Lago even tried to take the jump deep and he injured himself. Big Air will be kind of a let down this year.

No it's not good. It's great. Progression is the name of the game. Every year there will be something new. Triples and possibly a 1800? They talked about it last year with Schlopy.

Progression is definately good. Something new is a good thing too, but why not bring that in with a new twist on style. Oh well. I completely understand that landing a triple is a big thing on a lot of the competitors minds, and I'll definately be watching when they throw it down.

i think he said by the time he landed in that he said 120 feet or so, which is absolutely ridiculous! everything looks small on the screen but when you see it in person its ridiculous.

It seems like the location they want for the jump does not allow for the type of jump they want to build. In AK and Mammoth MSP and L1P had a steep slope where they could push an insane amount of snow.

The last couple of years they keep talking about who is going to triple first, however they never seem to build the jump big enough to do triples that look somewhat in control, it looks like Torstein's front dub 10 is being hucked hard enough and if he takes that to triple it could look even worse than last years.

Well I guess it is big enough? They were still taking it sooo deep though. Only time you take jumps that big is when your jacked from the crowd.

Man, I have been coming to this sight for like 9 years now off and on and just about everytime I do I like it a little less. It seems it has been reduced to boards for whiners and bashing on people. What happened to just enjoying what is and the sport of skiing. Yeah, xgames may have some flaws, but I have loved watching it since I was a little kid and still do. It is a sweet competition. Anyways, just a thought. Just enjoy what we have.

yeah, wasnt impressed with the jump. fuckin stepup for a big air comp? they said the knuck was six feet higher than the lip. seems more like a long jump comp to me

I'm interested to see what this means for the skiers. The skiers generally go 10-15 feet farther than the boarders. The boarders were landing at the very base of that landing.

I think the main difference will be that skiers will make better use of the poppy lip and go higher, not necessarily longer. And thus get more time in the air

Halladors was dope. I don't believe in giving 50s though. There is no way mcmorris should have gotten a 49. The barely landed that thing.

Damn that triple was clean.

And just because the jump doesn't appear to be putting people a bajillion feet into the air, doesn't mean it's a bad jump, unless you're talking aesthetics. Watch that Horgmo triple and see how gently he lands.

A step-up or step-over jump like this one may not look very impressive, but it's one of the best jump shapes around. The skiers are going to tear that jump a new one.

You're absolutely right that the trajectory of this jump is WAY off. Aerials figured out a long, long, long time ago that if people are going to be multiple flips, you need KICK.

This jump is a floaty style jump, which is wicked for spins. But lets face it, big air isn't about spins and slow style anymore (never was), it is about triples. You want triples, build kick.

That one snowboarder almost hit his head on the landing trying to get the last flip in. You'll see the same type of thing with the skiers if they don't kick the jump up before it. It'll be really hard to huck the triple in, and that is what everyone wants to see.

Seriously - if we're going to continue this trend of triples, we need jumps with shorter decks, steeper landings and WAY more kick.
