Style jump was a great addition, not a fan of people still throwing doubles in it though. Ahalls zero spin was the best trick of the night, he tweaked the fuck out of it

american media glazed shaun white for so long after his prime had clearly faded because no discernible american successor ever presented themselves. meanwhile the japanese riders have absolutely dominated the discipline for a while now, ayumu is always so fun to watch
 
Watching snowboard pipe now on YouTube. They're using a drone for some follow cam. I hope that dies. Not a big fan.

Luckily they stopped cutting to ot after the first guy. They should just put it away. They have a whole camera setup dialed for the event. Leave the toy at home
 
I like the style addition and having switch or forward not just left and right.

Wasn't that exhilarating but still a decent watch. Glad a 0 spin came out

Do you mean two attempts at the style jump or two style scores? I think both are good ideas, falling on your only style attempt kind of ruins any chances at a podium and two style scores with maybe 3 attempts would be sweet too

Either way would be better. I think they could do more attempts but that's not as worth it, points-wise, as trying the big spin tricks again. They would probably be better off having two style scores

i would love for them to bring back the 3 tricks best one wins. Feels like this year they were going for consistency but because of that it discourages trying new stuff.
 
I thought the big air judges did a great job. Glad they’re listening to the community and actually judging on the style and not just spin to win. Troy podmilsak’s trip 2160 was wild too. He did it with style not like an arial skiier and I loved seeing that. He definitely deserved the win.

Watch on ABC or ESPN, still a bunch but wayyyyy less than YT
 
Birk was overscored imo, his final 18 was big and impressive but his trick selection on every feature was so cookie cutter. Stock comp approach through the rail section combined with only grabbing safety and mute should’ve lowered his score. Colby’s nosebutter double 16 with a stalefish grab was far more creative and should’ve given him the w imo, his rail section also was more impressive than Birk’s with stuff like his 2 backslide cont 2. Felt like the judges heavily rewarded Birk for not bobbling on that second run but ignored the fact that his run felt like the same conservative style run that we’ve all seen a million times over, just spinning to win without a single nod to more modern ski tricks

I just wanted to address the meter but first off congrats to Birk Ruud for winning and A Hall and Mac for podiuming.

For context, idX is my app - just me full time. We have around 5000 tricks (autistic...yes) labeled from the last 4 years split 50/50 between comp skiing and snowboarding. Also, shout out to everyone on idX (our app).

Pitched X Games on using our trick data for their digital stream with the goal being to have average viewers (not your NS crowd) start to understand freeskiing better and we decided to pilot on the digital stream. We've been testing this for about the last month to make sure it's fully firing.

As we are operating remotely in SLC, and without going into too much technical detail, there has been a ton of miscommunication versus what we see on our screen and what you saw on yours with extremely little that us on our side can do about.

After reviewing the first runs for the livestream, we're extremely, extremely, disappointed on what was displayed, and sorry for messing up the viewing experience. Regardless, hoping the cable feed was fine and glad we got to see a heater of a competition overall.

Agree on the drone overuse. They used it as the live follow in ski big air and it was so crappy you had to wait for the replay to see what actually happened.

Don’t waste the live shot on the drone. Only use replays if the shot is good imo
 
I have never seen a public roasting quite as intense as the ahall boot grab one, which is deserved but also like it's ahall obviously he just missed it let's be real here

why is there a lot more Japanese influence in snowboarding but not skiing. Maybe I'm not paying attention.

So for ski big air they were considering fakie/forward left/right spins but they don't seem to be doing switch + left/right for snowboarders?
