X Games 2014

Some of you guys are straight up retarded. "Henrik did the same trick last year" Yeah, and NO ONE has done it since. Not even him. It is well deserved. You don't have to be a fan boy trying to ride Henriks dick to say that. Sure, he has the nose butter on lock and it is pretty standard for him, but that doesn't set the standards of how it should be judged. If your argument should be legit, the judge will have to ask every skier about how good they are on each trick on a scale of 1-10. "Okay Jossi, you land every dub cork 9 you try so we are going to give you a lower score for those."

And when did Douglas and Uncle E go full retard? Kenworthy does 3 dub corks 16 and there is at least 1 replay of each. "Dub cork 12, that isn't enough". Everyone can see that he spins more than a 12.

ABM got screwed over. Jossi did a dub cork 9 safety and got a great score, ABM does one with a tail, get scored for a straight air.

Vinnie killed it though. In fact everyone did. Great Big air final.

Some amasing posts here

"All harlaut does is butter trips, so repetitious!"

Just kill your self now if you posted anything along those lines

Sure, but how many people are doing what Gagnier was doing? I've never seen it done before, at least. But I could very well be mistaken and it could be a trick pros do all the time.

Unfortunetly I feel like it wasn't triple enough for the judges... Which sucks, because vinnie cash is innovation in a nutshell.

Yeah just watched Kai's again, he carves right to a left dub 12. Not enough to be a proper (insert proper term for alleyoop here) though, but should be scored higher than a reg dub 12

You sit in your moms basement editing clips, eating burgers and jerking off all day. News flash fatty, there is something called Alley Oops, the art of carving one way and jumping the opposite. Fuck sake, i expected more from you Eheath. Film sumo wrestlers next year, atleast you wont stand out in the crowd.

Fuck I'm an idiot and recorded it but I only recorded the x games slot and the entire final happened after that ended. I got to see the quails but I guess I'll half to look for the finals somewhere tomorrow. Jossi's triple came out of nowhere and was so unbelievably sick I shat myself. Also, kinda bummed Gus didn't stomp that switch trip because I always love seeing him in big air, his landings are always so unbelievably stomped.

Henrik destroyed, Vinny destroyed, but seeing Jossi stomp the shit out of his first triple was unreal, after seeing that and henrik's triple i don't associated triples with over-hucked without style anymore. I was a little disappointed that the judges didn't care about ABM's sw triple 12, I mean, they scored the 14 higher (which is strange because that's technically easier but i wouldn't know). Feel like he could've tossed the Triple 10. Too bad Schlopy got hurt, he's always fun to watch, hope he gets well soon.

Now that is how you judge a competition...

Judges finally awarding tricks that actually look good and are technically hard, please judge slope style this way.

If Jossi had stomped the triple that he did in qualifiers, he would have had it on lock. Probably the best looking triple I've seen. Ever.

Damn there are a lot of immature little kids in this thread. Newsflash: making fun of someone for being fat makes you sound like you're in middle school. And eheath had a good point; you TECHNICALLY can't do an ally oop on a straight jump, although you can certainly carve one way and pop the other, like Kai did, which is sick. Anyways, 'twas a super sick big air comp, vinny's screamin seamen dubs were absolutely nuts, as were henriks butter dubs/triple and kai's sw dub misties. Great to watch, hopefully slope delivers in the same way.

Although henriks trip was definitely the best and was scored fairly, but I thought as a whole vinnie killed it the entire time and henrik didn't as much.

I read someone saying that Vinnie didn't get rewarded. Seriously? The guy just got silver medal at the biggest big air competition in the world!

I really wish Jossi could have landed the triple in the finals as well. Him as 3rd on the podium, and it would have been absolutely perfect!

I have never been as stoked on skiing as I was during last nights second heat and finals. That was incredible, Henrik and Vinnie were mindblowing. I didn't really care who won between them. It felt like skiing has got over the triple cork hype that made the snowboarding big air so boring.

I loved the way Henrik was spinning as well, his second rotations on the doubles where so slow and spaced out, it looked like he'd never fallen in his life and wasn't about to.

Guy in snowboard big air throws triples like every hit and doesn't claim shit. Just chills out like yea now what? High roller status.

Henrik deserved the win, no question. This year's podium wasn't a close call at all.

Gagnier kept throwing that same trick and it took him like 3-4 times to get it clean.

Henrik had two different butters which no one else is doing, and one of them into a triple.

I'm happy Gagnier got 2nd because he always throws the most creative tricks and constantly gets robbed.

nope

In all honesty i think snowboarding is cooler then skiing but it wasn't the case in big air this year.

All the snowboarders in finals were hucking extremely similar triples

Skiing was refreshing as fuck with slower spins and more unique rotations

maybe next year

It happens so rarely it doesn't need a name if you wanna call it alley oop then fine but you can only alley oop pipe hits or hip (thanks AwR)

Joss is a style king and can never fall. His switch triple was steezy as fuck.

Also does anyone have the video of pipe prelims, heard Dorey took a slam

last night was the high point of the competition season, the olympics will not top it. best ski comp ive ever watched, everyone fucking slayed different styles everyone was stoked for eachother it was just awesome. id say have more night big air events like that, but that would make each one more irrelevant in the big picture. keep it the way it is, one big big air comp per season and people will continue to be stoked on it

I can see why you would distinguish a pipe alley oop from a jump 'alley oop' because in the pipe you're spinning against both your momentum and against gravity. However, on a hip you're only spinning against your momentum, not gravity. And on a jump 'alley oop', you're also spinning against your momentum. So how is a hip alley oop any different from carving one way off a jump and spinning the opposite way?
