X Games 1999 Vs X Games 2011

Most ppl have seen these, but to me its insane how much things have progressed! especially after not watching much skiing the last few years.

I remember running outside after watching Cusson's switch 7, building a 2 ft jump and trying to hit it backwards all day on dynastar assults (old school mogul skis). Fun times

it use to be fakie to fakie, now its switch to switch.

For real though I can recall watching that fakie 720 and being amazed by it. Off topic but one of the best Xgames from back in the day big air show down between Tanner Hall and Mike Nick.

god I miss old skiing, i use to be glued to the tv when x-games was on every year, now i just dont give a fuck

doubled the rotations in 12 years on a jump triple the size. wow im so mind blown. not. golden age of freeskiing 1999-1242 + teddy bear crisis. aerials skiing = weak sauce.

that's just you getting old.

most 16 year old park rats these days could do what top notch pros were doing back then. mind blowing

xgames of old were better though. Peaked out years ago. Now xgames

Text to vote, shitty announcing, catering to the fat kid on the couch that doesnt ski instead of people that are actually involved in the sport.

xgames is about the the $$$

Just so impressed with how far the sport has come. Can't believe that you could win gold back then with a sketchy switch 7. Great post man!

to everyone complaining about xgames: yes, it does suck, and is a wack form of skiing, but does it really ruin your time at the mountain? people always preach about "soul skiing" and how important it is, but i feel like no one actually practices what they preach. don't get so insulted by what they do on the tv, just enjoy your own skiing - in case you forgot, it is actually fun.

As nostalgic as old skiing was, there is something intriguing about the variety (...at times) and level of competition of present-day skiing.

2002 us open big air? you kidding me?

2003 slope? dear god... I believe I shat my pants upon viewing this run back in '03.

2005

gagnier of course had the upset that year.

anyway, old skiing is pretty fucking scrappy.

God i know. This year i was like "pretty sure double 12?" "look at that double 14" an di'm like oh shit didn't even see that he came in switch

so by missing "old" x-games you mean like... 2008?

I wonder what they would think if we showed them what skiing looks like now, to skiers back in 99...

thats intense...the sport has come a LONG way. which begs the question: how much farther can it go? triples are starting to get thrown...how much more is possible?
