We now have a direct attack by Iran on the state of Israel. Just starting. No idea how bad the damage will be. Going to be picking up over the next few hours. Supposedly dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones.

Drones have already started being engaged by us forces.

could this be the beginning of the end?
 
Was waiting for this tread. I wish there was a WWIII likelihood meter online, kinda like the forest service fire danger level signs. Im forcasting extreme danger at the moment. I'm feeling like we're pretty close with all the Iran stuff.

Also, just had a friend randomly deploy :( he's my Backcountry ski buddy

theres doomsday clock but i never really understood the whole minutes to midnight baloney
 
just leave them alone. it doesn't affect us. seriously fucked up things are going to happen if we don't just mind our own business. for the love of everything we know just stay to ourselves!

It already is affecting us. We were directly involved with shooting down both drones and missiles. Us assets. Lines have been crossed. Iran is going to get blasted by Israel militarily
 
Honestly, i try to not care as long as Russia Doesn't come over the border. It is just unnecessary stress.

Not caring has been hard tho, Every media except NS i open is just full of Putin this, Putin that, hamas this, israeli that.

You should read about the shadow wars and destabilizing actions Russia is doing across the world, especially in Africa with their mercenaries and the Wagner Group. China too. Sure the US does this stuff to exert influence but the big difference is those countries are still in the conquering phase trying to expand their territory.

Edit: they've already attacked the US in a sense multiple times through cyber warfare.

Which Israel says was no consulate at all but a military outpost that Iran was using to plan high level military attacks. Hence the high ranking military generals being on site when the strike occurred. Iran has the same playbook as hamas. Use civilian “buildings” as military outpost for security.

Every embassy in the world is full of spies counterintuitive to the nation's that host them. And what's so suspicious about government officials being in a consulate? Big meh to that whole rationale. Netanyahu can claim all he wants but til there's actually proof, this is no better than our search for WMDs in Iraq...

It was interesting to note that a few days ago the US state dept warned travelers against going to Israel. They clearly knew what was coming.

This is the first time I’ve ever said it. Iran directly striking Israel is a big fucking deal. And Israel will retaliate. This isn’t over by any means.

Iran has been signaling that they would strike Israel directly for several weeks now since Israel attacked Iranian assets. Shooting a bunch of drones that Israel could easily shoot down was a pretty generous counter. Israel knows nobody loves them rn, doubt they are going to make more trouble for themselves and start an all out war.

It’s a complicated game of carefully calibrated point/counterpoint. It’s mainly about showing a tough front and sticking it to the other side in the eyes of their respective populations. There’s not really any rational reason for Israel and Iran to go to war they are like 1000 miles apart. Iran likes to blame the west and Israel for all their issues and it’s like well yeah maybe you could use normal banks and have a functioning economy if you weren’t spending all your money funding terrorism but what do I know

For real though boys, there is no way “ww3” is happening if china isn’t involved, and there is no way they are going to risk dominating the global EV market over Iran. They care about making money first and foremost. Western powers will defend Israel but that’s about it. Ww3 was “imminent” like 6 or 7 times during the trump administration, y’all need to stop letting the media wind you up like this

I wouldn't be so sure m8. Israel has big heads and are lately on a war rampage. If anything their soldiers now have experience from demolishing and going into gaza. I don't think the israelis will just sit idly.

naw man, don't blame the media for people who refuse to read about geopolitics at all, ever, and then yell "ww3 boys!" every time a regional conflict flares up

the media def didn't say anything about ww3 on this, there are lots of great media that report on this stuff every day, but people would rather ignore all of it and go "fuck the media amiright"

Yeah I was assuming everyone was getting got by ww3 clickbait on social media or whatever. I only get the news from the radio and newspapers like an old man and nobody has been saying anything about ww3

you're probably right about that, i just took issue with lumping it all together as "the media" cause people love to blame the media for shit. you know, the media that include (total hacks and) on-the-ground war reporters risking their life to get us information! but yeah judging by the young people in my office, social media is often pushing or memeing the ww3 nonsense

I would say it's very unlikely, they have been fighting over their imaginary friends for as long as people have been living in the Middle east.
 
No because a war is going on in Europe at the moment and there is still not a world war. A war with any NATO member means a total war and no one wants that. So they’ll do anything they can just before going to actual war.

Its basically the same thing as the Cold War and the nukes. Threaten, cross the line, back down.

Wdym? Literally every paper has been alluding to "a wider conflict" since Russia invaded Ukraine (so years). The israel/palestine/Arab nations only makes that more probable. It's mentioned quite often by mainstream media, maybe just not that explicitly.

If you think “a wider conflict” means ww3 you are reading into it too much. I don’t believe that Russia will attack a NATO country, they can barely handle just Ukraine. And a wider conflict in the Mid East would probably look like US aligned countries vs Iran supported militias, nothing close to a world war.

I think that we live in such a globalized economy now that nobody wants ww3. It would be economically bad for everyone. Back in the early 20th century economies were way more isolated which allowed countries to profit off of war with way fewer repercussions.

It's time to grow a pair and take back Königsburg (or Krolewiec. Idc who gets it as long as it's not Russia).
